Eve

My head was giving me a huge headache. I got up from the table and sat down on it, looking at the hole where I entered. It was dark outside already, I sighed and removed my armor to check the damages.

It was not good, the torso was a complete mess, every time I touched the hole it was made on it a new piece fell apart, same with the helmet, I needed to leave them and stay with the arms and legs.

I started to walk around the house, looking at the books that were in and reading them.

Story… story… math… science… alchemy… Dammit, nothing that is in here is useful, I should think of a strategy to defeat that monster from outside.

I left the book where I took it and I heard a sound in the distance. I moved my sword out and reached the place where I heard the sound, but all I saw was a little girl, shaking, with her hand in the air and her mouth open.

Her mumbled scream and coughing, her eyes out of orbit, I took a deep breath and saved my sword, no demon or creature could imitate that good what this poor girl was feeling, I extended my hand and sat on my knees.

“Are you okay?”

“I-I…”

Tears started to fall from the girl’s eyes, taking my hand and making my shirt wet, she didn’t scream, and I pet her head watching ahead for any danger that may appear, but there was nothing that made me put my guard up.

The kid guided me to a different room that was different from the rooms I saw in the castle. It was clean and had supplies, the girl opened a pack of food and offered me water, I drank and ate and when I finished the girl decided to speak.

“Are you okay, sir?”

“Why did you ask that?”

“You fell from the sky”

“Ah, yeah I’m okay, I’m durable. Who are you, little one?”

“I’m Eve, I was the daughter’s king…”

“I see… no need to ask after hearing that, how did you survive these 4 years?”

“The castle had a lot of resources and still has… my father opened the castle to the ones that need refuge and… well…”

“You don’t need to force yourself to tell me, I get what happened”

The girl was biting her lips, holding her knees while looking at the floor, I could hear how her voice was changing but she still faced me straight in the eyes and told me.

“My father and the rest of my family were executed by Lumino, I would never forget that name”

“You mean the god of light?”

“Do you know him?”

“I kill it”

“What?! Who are you sir?”

The girl’s eyes opened wide, she didn’t seem scared, all the opposite, she seemed intrigued.

“I’m just another survivor who wants this to end, do you want to hear the whole story?”

The girl nodded and I sighed, grabbing another glass of water.

I will never forget who all started, 4 years ago, I lived in a peaceful town with my parents, it was about that age that they wanted me to search for a job in the capital and find a woman who I could marry, but they were happy to have me around too.

I helped with cooking, cutting the trees and taking care of our warden. It was in one trip to the capital to sell our goods that the tragedy started. They call this The calamity, I huge ray was spotted in the central capital of the country.

The next we knew, hundreds of monsters appeared to eat us, imps, ghouls, fairies, slimes, all kinds that one could imagine, the kingdoms restrained good against them, many fell but the real low punch was when they appeared.

The ones and only or so they named themselves, ethereal creatures that one could consider gods, according to their words:

Humanity has expended all our patience, rotting itself from the inside without noticing, all sins require a punishment, and your time has come to pay it, you must be reborn and be better in your next life.

The gods disappeared with that phrase and it was hell on earth from that point, the earth opened itself, tsunamis came from out of nowhere in the lower parts of the country, tornadoes destroyed the farms and hidden houses.

One thing was dealing with monsters and other with natural disasters and creatures that we couldn’t comprehend. When nature reclaim its place a new type of creature appeared, the avatars.

The avatars were a new type of monster, all the fighters who didn’t master magic were annihilated, only the ones that could enhance themselves and their party survive for a limited time.

I was among the ones that had that potential, I helped in the first wave, and in the second I needed to learn more tricks, but it wasn’t enough. When we defeated one of the avatars, their god came down to strike us.

That’s the time where I died.

“It feels strange to be revived, and not only I revive, I had more power than before”

That’s when I meet Shina, a fairy that side with humans, I was the only one that the majority of its body intact, but when I was revived, seeing all my comrades in the ground, a huge dose of adrenalin was flowing through my veins and I use my new powers to take down the avatar of thunder.

What I did next was revolting, I was like a creature looking for where to feed myself, I was not different from a ghoul when it sees a human, but I wanted to take its power to keep fighting.

“And since that moment, I keep tracking down monsters and deities, it’s been a long time but there are only two gods left to take down, I was fighting with one and that’s how I ended up here”

“Which avatar was?”

“The avatar of darkness, I defeat it but now the god of darkness has descended, I had a hard time knowing if it was night or it was just because of him”

I stood up and the girl stopped me.

“You are going outside again?”

“I must, if I don’t do it, who would?”

The girl let me go and she looked down.

“Before you go, would you like to look at the armory? I know there must be something you would find useful”

“Thanks”

I nodded and the girl guide me to the armory hall, it was a giant saloon with a ton of weapons, but she pointed at one place in specific, she put a key on it and when I entered, I found a white armor, along with swords, daggers and other types.

All of this is blessed equipment, maybe I could finally use that technique I used once.

“I’m going to do something to do these weapons, I’m bringing them all”

“Please do, I wanted to fight with them once but they are too heavy for me”

When I took one, I felt it, these weapons were heavier than they looked, but for that reason they’re going to be even more useful, I cut with the edge of my sword and started to draw glyphs in the weapons.

When I finished, I put the armor on even with the pieces that were left from my armor and moved around, it was difficult, I was not used to using such bulky armor but it was good, I cast electricity to help me with the weight using magnetism along with air.

“Double spell…”

“It’s not really a spell, like I said to you, to survive one needed to be able to use magic”

“Please come back when you are safe, sir”

I nodded and I took the sword that was on the hall, a golden that humiliate the rusty and gray sword at the other side of my hip, I returned to the main saloon and run towards the hole, jumping and flying with the power of wind towards the giant whale that was till on the floating in the air.

The look of my visor was something that I would need to get used in little time. When I was approaching, the creatures that the whale had summoned jumped towards me, but with a simple punch, I managed to send them all to the ground. As I descended with the sword, it pierced through all of them, dusting them in a golden powder.

I looked at the whale, as it looked back at me, it was a duel now. I ran towards it and jumped, punching it in the eye, and making it groan as it moved above the sky, I put my hand on the mouth of the helmet and cast a bubble of air and jumped to the whales back.

I could see part of the space, or maybe it was just the starry night, one thing was certain though, I felt how the pressure of the air was heavier, making it heavier to move and to breathe.

The whale couldn’t fight itself; I was about to pierce through its head but a creature jumped, sending the sword flying, it was not the only one, tons of enemies appeared, they didn’t have the humanoid form anymore, they were different in size and form.

I took the one that sent my sword flying and punched it in the face, making it dust, and when I looked at the creatures, I extended my hand, making a magic circle appear and making a spear appear in my hand.

I’m glad I created this spell

My own spell, the item transportation, I charged towards the creatures and impaled two of them, hitting them against the whale’s back. One of them held me from behind while the other came to punch me in my chest.

But when the fist of the creature bounced it, I kicked the creature creating a magic circle, making a dagger go through its body and catching it in the air, throwing it to the creature in front of me.

The whale started to go in circles, making me lose balance, thanks to the gauntlets I could gripped from the creature’s ethereal form, but fighting in this state was difficult, enemies came to me and I couldn’t let go of the whale.

I summoned a morning star that allowed me to hit them from a close and medium distance, I held it as I started to cast wind in my hand where I was grabbing the creature and started going in circles, making myself a saw that punched everyone that dared to take a step near me.

When the whale stopped moving, I summoned an axe, and went against the giant creature, jumping as he held me and tried to squeeze me, but the armor was too tight to do me any damage, I threw the axe towards it, destroying it.

I extended both of my hands and a bow was summoned, I shot my arrows with precision to the creatures that were running towards me and then I summoned another sword, going from the creature’s head until its tail slashing enemies.

All the weapons from the armory were used and thrown. I took my own sword and started to enchant it, making it glow in a bright white like a star, I stabbed the whale from its tail and ran towards it until I reached its head and kicked my sword through its crane.

The whale made a final grown as it fell from the sky, allowing it to be clear again, I couldn’t help but scream to the air once the battle was over, I let the oxygen that was on my mouth go away along with the electricity and wind that was helping me wear the armor, taking a last breath until fell unconscious again.
