Another Dragon?

Having finally gotten through the great plains, we finally arrive at a new area with many lakes, sitting beside one to rest.
"Finally some rest."
I look at Eris and ask.
"I'm getting hungry, you see anything around to eat?"
"Ah! Uhhh... There's fish! I'll go fish!"
Quickly she rushes off to a different lake, leaving Makito and I alone.
'Can she even fish? Well she'll figure it out.'
As I'm relaxing, laying down next to the lake, Makito asks.
"So, boss. How come you haven't mentioned anything about the one following us?"
I look blankly at him.
"What?"

After he notices my confusion, he points behind me.
"Right there. Not many places to hide around here..."
I sit back up and turn around to see what he was a pointing at.
There was some kind of black fur with eyes in the water, who then quickly dove underwater the moment it noticed us looking.
'What in the...'
A moment passes before I finally say.
"I have no idea what that is."
"Is that why you didn't say anything?"
He tilts his head and quickly I rush to stand up as I say.
"O- Of course! Let the enemy come to you! That way it will fall right into your trap!"
"Trap? ...But we didn't make any tra-"
I cut him off, a blush coming over my face.
"I AM THE TRAP! A mighty dragon like me will make short work of whatever that is."

I waste no time and walk over to where the furry creature dove under, the water now bubbling from running out of breath, waiting for it to come out.
'No idea what that is... Some tiny furball... In any case, it shouldn't be any harm at al-'
As I'm lost in my thoughts, a tall person suddenly bursts out of the water, headbutting me right in the chin as they come out, almost knocking me out as I fall to the ground.
"AIR! I NEED AIR!"
"Who the hell?!"
I quickly look up at the attacker as I slowly crawl backwards.
She was tall, had black spiky short hair with no horns, and some weird green wings on her back along with a big tail. She wore an armored black bikini top over her big chest, and black shorts.
"...! A... Dragon...?"
I get up and walk to the struggling girl as she's trying to catch her breath, and quickly pull her up while saying with a big smile.
"Another dragon! This is awesome!"
She shakes herself back to her senses and looks at me as her eyes slowly widen.
"Y- You... I've been caught!"
Her face goes completely red, but before anything can happen, she looks up again, confused.
"Wait... Dragon?"
I nod, still with a smile.
"Yes, I am one too! Maaan, it's rare to see dragons out and about out here, or in general I guess. This is amazing!"

Seeing us talking, Makito approaches and looks at her.
"So you're the one that's been following us this whole time?"
"Ah!"
Immediately she looks elsewhere and continues.
"...Y-Yeah... Sorry-"
I quickly cut her off.
"Why is a mighty dragon like you following us anyway?"
"Huh? Oh, right! I am a mighty dragon! As such, I needed to make sure a... Fellow dragon like yourself was safe in your adventure..."
Makito looks at both of us and says.
"A dragon? I don't really think she is one."
I look at him.
"What do you mean? Look at her and her, admittedly strange, green wings!"
She flinches as I say that and I continue.
"A dragon knows a dragon, that's for sure! Though I guess something happened to your horns huh?"
Once again she flinches and quickly nods.
"Yes! It was in a furious battle where I lost them! You see, I-"
Before she can finish, her stomach grumbles, to which she starts blushing and quickly says.
"A RECENT furious battle! So... I didn't have time to eat... Anything at all..."
She collapses to her knees.
"Actually I haven't eaten in quite a while... Running from those rabbits took everything from me..."
Makito narrows his eyes as his suspicion rises, and I say.
"You were there too? They're crazy huh? Especially that queen... I can't believe she'd suggest something like that..."
I see her become confused at what I say, and quickly continue.
"Don't worry, it was just something she told! But anyway, you can eat with us, I don't mind. Can't have a fellow dragon go hungry after all."

I turn around and call out for Eris, who quickly takes off running towards us, not taking long for her to reach us.
"I'm here! I got some fish- Huh?"
Eris stares for a while at the new girl behind me before finally asking calmly.
"Who's that?"
With a smile I answer.
"Another dragon! Surprised right?"
She stays silent and I quickly continue.
"Wait a minute... You're not afraid of her eating you?!"
She blinks for a moment.
"Why would I be?"
"She's very hungry you know!"
The new girl, hearing that, quickly approaches Eris with a weird look on her face.
"T-That's right! I'll eat you!"
They both stare at each other in silence before the new girl lets out an awkward laugh.
"Ha... Ha...
...Did you freeze from fear? I guess I should go easy on y-"
Eris finally responds, shaking her head.
"No."
"Well... I WILL eat you!"
"Hmmmm, is that so."
She turns towards me and, while looking down, hands me the fish she was carrying.
"Anyway here they are! P-please don't eat me!"
'...She completely ignored her...'

"I get it now!"
We look towards Makito as he slams his fist in his hand.
"It's like before with Eris. Haha, that's fun!"
I look at him dumbfounded.
"Huh? What is?"
The new girl's stomach grumbles once more, and I continue.
"Whatever, let's just eat before this one starves."
I take some firewood from my backpack and place it on the ground, with Makito helping me make a small campfire with stones.
"Hm?"
The new girl leans in and asks.
"A campfire? What for?"
Eris sits down and says.
"To cook the fish obviously. Hopefully just the fish..."
She looks at her before looking back at the makeshift campfire.
"Really? Why doesn't she use her fire breath?"
She points at me and I flinch as I quickly look for something to say.
"I... Uh... Oh! Actually! Why don't YOU go ahead and light it up? I don't want to tire myself out or anything... Besides you're the newest one here and all."
She too flinches at that and she quickly says.
"Ah no... Well... Ah! I don't want to burn myself! Yeah!"
The moment she says that I stand up and grab her with a huge smile on my face.
"RIGHT?! Doesn't it burn you or something?"
Everyone looks on in silence, before I quickly continue.
"I mean... That's what I heard some loser dragons were afraid of... Not me. I've definitely breathed fire before... I've got a great flame breath..."
I sit back down feeling awkward as the campfire is finally lit thanks to Makito.
"Yeah... I was also making fun of those loser dragons... Haha... I bet they haven't even done it even once..."
She lets out an awkward laugh as she too sits down next to the campfire. Silently each of us then takes a fish to roast over the fire.

A nice lunch later, now with our bellies fuller than before, I turn to her and ask.
"I'm Rako. What's your name?"
She licks off the last bit of fish before throwing the stick behind her and says.
"I'm Lunaris. My pleasure to finally meet one of you!"
I look at her confused.
"One of me?"
"I mean... Your... Clan?"
I look up at the sky, thinking.
"Hmm... Is my family well known?"
'I guess even if they were, they wouldn't have mentioned it...'
I look back at her and continue.
"I think we're just a couple of country bumpkins to be honest, compared to city dragons."
The moment he hears that, Makito pokes me, getting my attention.
"City dragons? What's that?"
"Oh, I guess you wouldn't know. My family still keeps to the old dragon traditions, living alone inside a cave out in some forest, but... Most dragons tend to now congregate together in an area unfortunately."
Makito looks at me starry eyed while Eris too seems curious, so I beam a smile at both of them and continue.
"Yeah, not lonesome anymore... The cities they make can be quite cool. There's just no adventure there though, so I'm glad I lived where I did."
I stand up, causing the others to do so as well.
"In fact, let's continue our adventure already! I have a tradition to keep!"
"Boss, do you think we'll ever get to see them?"
I look back at him.
"The dragon cities? Hmm... Maybe? If I still can't find a proper home our adventure may take us near there."
He nods and we start walking, with a new pair of footsteps following behind.

Suddenly I stop and look behind me.
"Huh, are you coming too?"
With a determined look she replies.
"Yes. I... I feel like it will be a good adventure! Going with you. In any case I want to stay near you!"
A moment of silence later, she continues, blushing.
"Because it'd be fun I mean! You seem strong so..."
I give her a nod and reach out for her hand.
"Very well! Welcome to the team then Lunaris!"
She smiles back and takes my hand.
"I'm glad to be here!"
