Chapter 9:
After the Rain
Warm.
What?
Huh?
My head…
Alive?
“Calm down, pal.”
I hear someone.
I can open my eyes now.
Breathing is very difficult.
Everything is so confusing.
What happened?
The mission…
“Hey, hey, hey! Wake up, wake up!” Someone slaps my face.
I see a woman. A girl? Who is she?
I can feel my whole body is in pain.
I can feel my body?
I sit down.
I am on a bed.
My body is bandaged everywhere.
So many bruises.
“It was a miracle you survived.” The girl is standing next to the bed. “You were brought here to my clinic after the explosion on the desert.”
I remember.
I stand up quickly.
I fall down.
“Calm down, pal! You are safe here.” She helps me to stand up. She sits me on the bed again. “You’ve been out for three weeks. Your body takes time to adjust. Go slow.”
“Three weeks?”
“My name is Geng. I am a doctor. I work for the resistance. We are on the same side.”
“How did I ended up here?”
“We are hidden on the tunnels under the desert. We received a note telling about someone dumb enough to infiltrate the Capital fortress to explode it. We did not know if to believe or not. And the sandstorm was about to happen anyway.”
“Did it explode?”
“All up in the air. It was saw from everywhere.” “After that, our group ousted out the remaining of the Capital forces of Kai Bell. We are fortifying every defense up there. And we are pushing the Capital out of our desert. You helped us quite a lot, pal.”
“Olvad?”
“I do not know. And you should rest for now. It is not time to worry right now. Your body need to recover. Your armor protected you a little but still that explosion should have killed any other person. The balance is strong inside of you. You are a resistant one.”
I do not reply. I lay down on the bed. My head still hurts a lot. And my body… I can not move well.
The tunnels were incredible.
Almost infinite.
I do not know how this exists under the desert.
We move using magnet carts that float with magic.
It has been a week since I woke. After one more week on that infirmary I could walk again. I got transferred to another recovery center of the resistance. I went back on training my muscles and getting back into shape for combat.
They did not let me walk around much. They trust me. But not too much trust. I think I saw once their leader. But the places I could go are very limited and I did not want disrespect anyone here.
I stay as quiet and out of the way as possible.
The training was the fun part.
Meneneus is one of the captains here and a frightening warrior. He did not take it easy just because I was recovering. It is good to see strong people fighting on the right side.
Everyone was very welcoming.
A weird feeling I am not used to, anymore.
The Capital got completely expelled from varenhaniam desert. The people north are finally free. It gave me a lot of hope for the future.
I do not know where to go now.
This whole time I did not receive any mission on any dream.
Meneneus had suggested that I traveled far to the south, now. The people in the ice mountain ranges are also fighting the Capital. A resistance even bigger than the one here in the desert, he said. I could be of some help there.
In over a month away, there will be a caravan taking supplies to some cities across the border to help them rebuild everything and also fortify every defense. The trains are not working for now.
I will travel with the caravan up until some point at the border and from there I can start my travel to the south.
One more month had passed quickly with me continuing my training and helping with the preparations at the base.
Time to go. We traveled through the tunnels as far as we could. It was safer and faster. We got out in Way Dek. From there, the caravan was ready to go.
