Chapter 11:

Welcome to Goblin Cave!

The Misadventures of A Self-Aware Princess

I woke up in a cold sweat right before I went splat against the pavement. My body was still groggy from the damage I received earlier, but at least I’m-

“Wait, where am I?”

I woke up in a decently lit room, I looked down at myself to realize I was dressed in clean clothes. As for my uniform, it was hung on the side of the wall. Clearly it’s seen better days. Right before I could process my new habitat, the door to the room opened. In walked two goblins, both dressed in clothes their size.

“Oh goodness, you’re finally awake.”

“Told you she’d be fine, and you doubted my expertise.”

I was startled at first, after all I was in the enemy camp. I decided to put on an act in order to catch them off guard. The two goblins introduced themselves, the one wearing light leather armor with khaki shorts was named Todd. The other, who wore a doctor’s coat, was named Doc funnily enough. Apparently they were scared by how unresponsive my body was. I was out cold for four days, in that time they managed to bring me into their base. Which just so happens to have a tunnel connected to the Pewter Forest, so these guys are definitely my target. I was almost taken aback by how nice they acted, but I knew the truth. Goblins were horrible creatures, they pillaged villages and ate children. I’ll never fall for your schemes, you lowdown dirty goblins!

“Uh, are you okay?”

“Eh?”

“You look like you ate some bitter bugs?”

I feigned ignorance and managed to fool Todd. I’m still not at full strength, so I’ve got to be careful. Doc left the room to check on some things, while Todd decided to keep me company. In that time I wove together a fake cover story, for why I was in my predicament.

“So you fell off your father’s merchant caravan and ended up falling off that cliff. You poor girl.”

“It’s okay, I’m just happy I was saved by such kind people(Heh, like hell I am).”

“Oh, did you say something?”

“Heavens no, it must be your imagination.”

I hate pretending to be prim and proper, but if it helps me get out of this situation then so be it. I noticed Todd was staring at me with a troubled expression. When I asked about it he said he was wondering if there was a way to help me heal faster.

“It must be hard not being able to move around the way you want. If only there was a way we could help you.”

“You don’t need to worry, you’ve already done so much for me as is.”

I know the real reason you want to get me jumpy and vibrant. You’re planning to put me in a stew aren’t you, or sell me to a group of despicable people. You bastard goblins, I’ll burn you all! My bloodlust was high, which was shocking considering how lethargic I felt. Out of nowhere, Todd looked like he came up with an ingenious idea.

“Hey, I think I know something that’ll perk you up.”

Really? Wait, you’re not about to give a patient alcohol are you? Actually, please do, I could use something to take my edge off.

“Doc keeps some vitality elixirs in his cabinets. Maybe one will help return some color to your skin.”

Oh, just an elixir, well that sucks…Wait, you scumbags got elixirs? Why didn’t you say that before, give me one!

“That sounds lovely, may I please have one. It may help with my nausea.”

“Nausea, we can’t have that. Please wait, I’ll see if I can find one.”

Heh, Todd you poor gullible fool. Once you give me the medicine, I shall take our pathetic life. Todd began rummaging through the medicine cabinet, searching desperately for the medicine he promised me. After some trial and error, he pulled out a small bottle with a yellow liquid inside. He brought it over to me and was about to hand it over.

“Actually, do you need me to help you drink it? We also have spoons if that helps.”

“Worry not, I’ll just drink it straight from the bottle.”

Todd obliged me and finally handed over the bottle, I immediately pulled the cork out and began to drink the elixir. I was actually surprised by the taste, I thought it would taste like snot. What awaited me was a mellow taste with a hint of lemon, I’m surprised this isn’t juice. After finishing the elixir, I waited to see its effects. Todd watched me with a dumb smirk, that’s when the thought finally crossed my mind. These are goblins, why would they want to help me? How do I know what I just drank was medicine for my injured body? The realization sent fear down my spine, I was a fool. I forgot how cunning these buggers can be, now my life is in danger. I suddenly felt a strange tingling feeling in my spine. I was shocked when-

“That’s a relief, I managed to get the right bottle. How do your legs feel?”

…*Sigh* Way to ruin the suspense Todd. Like I was saying, I was surprised to find out I could stand again. This green freak actually gave me medicine, kinda makes me feel bad for what I thought of him. Then again, monsters are monsters and exp is exp. I breathed inward to steady myself, this drew some concerns from Todd.

“Is everything alright, do you have trouble breathing?”

“Not at all, my body is just fine. Thank you Todd, although I’ll have to ask you a favor.”

“Sure what do you need?”

“Could you turn around really quick? Doc left me some fresh clothes, so I wanted to get changed.”

Todd’s face became flushed and he turned around, I quickly moved over to where my belongings were. My medicine pouch and knife were there, it was sweet of them to make sure my stuff was okay. I’m starting to get second thoughts about this, but I need to level up. That, and how do I know this isn’t all an act. This vitality potion could wear off soon, when that happens I’ll be as good as dead. I need to act now. I pulled out my knife, and checked it for damage. The lake water gave it some rust, but beside that it was fine. Then I turned to Todd who was humming happily.

“Hey are you finished back there? We should probably put something in your stomach.”

“I’m almost there, and some grub sounds wonderful right now.”

I was right, he wants to fatten me up so he can eat me later. Well that sucks, I was starting to like you Todd. I sighed realizing I had no choice now and lunged at Todd. I pushed him to the ground and held my knife to his neck. He let out a yelp as he slowly realized what just happened.

“W-What are you-”

“Do you treasure your life?”

Todd nodded his head up and down as sweat ran down his stubby neck. I smirked as I reveled in the power I felt over him.

“If you wish to make it out of this alive, then you’ll listen to exactly what I say.”
