Chapter 1:
Cave Dweller 2725
The two cave dwellers, clad in their odorous fur robes, collapsed onto the hard surface of the unfamiliar ground, overwhelmed by the shock of their abrupt transition. Their eyes widened in astonishment, drinking in the sights as if experiencing ecstasy for the first time. Mouths agape, they struggled to comprehend this alien environment. Around them, the bustling street teemed with life, throngs of people passing by without a second glance, as if the strangers were invisible.
"Ooga… booga…" one of them muttered, bewilderment etched across his face.
"Booga…" the other echoed, his voice tinged with awe.
"Dooga nooga," he continued, the incomprehensible words barely concealing the wonder beneath.
Slowly, they rose to their feet, eyes transfixed by the kaleidoscope of neon lights casting vibrant hues across the street. The hard pavement pressed into the soles of their feet, a sensation as foreign to them as the notion of shoes.
Thousands of people surged past, their hurried steps jostling the cave dwellers until they found themselves pushed and prodded into the depths of a damp alleyway squeezed tight between two towering structures. As they craned their necks upward, eager to find a familiar sky, they were met only with layer upon layer of metal and glass, platforms and neon signs obscuring any trace of celestial guide. The concept of day or night seemed a distant memory in this strange metropolis.
Secluded behind large, metallic trash containers, they huddled together, shivering as the chillness of the city's dim recesses enveloped them like a second skin.
"Kooga… kooga…" one lamented, the absence of warmth cutting into him.
"Vooga…" the other responded, the single word a blend of despair and determination.
With no understanding of how to return to their own world, they began to search the trash containers, seeking anything of use. Inside, they discovered remnants of processed food—plastic-like in texture—which, after reluctantly consuming, induced immediate nausea. The artificial food, a far cry from anything they'd ever tasted, had long lost its flavor and freshness, rotting amid the waste.
They unearthed old, rusty garments, struggling to make sense of their function, and even failed attempts to don them left them frustrated and defeated. Hours passed as they sat in the shadows, observing the steady flow of city dwellers. They watched intently, hoping to glean some understanding, perhaps mimicry, from the endless parade of strangers who seemed so at ease in this bewildering world.
