Chapter 3:
Cave Dweller 2725
While Ogle immersed himself in the art of martial combat, Bogli embarked on a different kind of quest—a journey into the realm of knowledge. She found herself captivated by an unfamiliar object: a book. The textured cover and delicate pages were unlike anything she had encountered before, covered with strange, black markings that seemed to speak in a language all their own.
Confounded by the book's purpose and how it might be used, Bogli's curiosity drew the attention of a passerby. Sensing her puzzlement, the stranger paused, kneeling beside her with a gentle smile. "Book—words—to read—to learn," they said, attempting to convey the concept in simple terms.
But communication proved difficult, Bogli’s limited vocabulary and unfamiliarity with the language creating a barrier of misunderstanding. Her eyes mirrored her frustration, and in a moment of exasperation, she tossed the book aside, retreating to hide behind a nearby barrel. Curled into a ball, she sought refuge from her feelings of inadequacy.
Determined to help, the passerby approached Bogli again, their kindness unwavering. They gently took her arm and led her to a makeshift table in the heart of the camp. Gathering some scrap paper and a broken pen, they began to introduce her to the alphabet, tracing each letter with care and teaching her its sound.
Bit by bit, Bogli’s world began to widen as she traced the characters herself. This was her introduction to a new language—a path to understanding and discovery. With each letter learned, Bogli took another step toward unlocking the mysteries of the written word, her heart filled with renewed hope and determination. In this environment of shared learning, she began to see that knowledge, like strength, could be cultivated and grown, one small lesson at a time.
