Chapter 82:
Welcome to the Republic of Meows!
Mayutan’s eyes moved across the ancient text page by page, deciphering the full secrets of the Climax Series with astonishing speed.
Armed with that knowledge, Debiru’s training quietly—but steadily—began.
Meanwhile, Mayutan devoured every book he could find about dragons, hoping that somewhere among them he might discover a decisive weakness.
As for Tanimaki, he spent his days helping Bianca with her work at the library, then trained with Mashu after dinner.
The training made Tanimaki even more agile than before. Even so, he was still nowhere near Anger’s level of instantaneous movement.
Mayutan continued working his way through the books on dragons until he came across a passage that even he couldn’t decipher.
“The dragon’s —— is ——. However, only against one person... Hmm. I can’t make out this part.”
Debiru, too, was having trouble mastering the Climax Series.
But they couldn’t afford to spend too much time preparing. If they waited too long, the kidnapped adults might be eaten.
Once Mayutan had finished going through all the books, he quietly closed the last one and turned to the others.
“...We have no choice. We have to go.”
Tanimaki, Debiru, and Mashu all nodded.
The book even revealed the location of the cave, almost as though it were meant to guide them there.
And so, at last, the four of them set out for the cave to defeat the dragon.
The air inside was unbearably damp, and a clammy chill crept up from beneath their feet.
Mist hung thick in the cave, blurring their vision.
The eerie silence only made the place more unsettling, and fear slowly began to spread through their hearts.
Tanimaki and the others pressed on toward the deepest part of the cave, where the dragon was said to dwell, but not a single other monster appeared along the way.
“That makes things easier, meow,” said Tanimaki.
“The other monsters must have fled because they were overwhelmed by the dragon’s presence.”
Mayutan murmured the words as he cautiously scanned their surroundings.
Even Tanimaki and the others nearly froze under the weight of that overwhelming presence. But they looked at one another, summoned their courage, and continued deeper into the cave.
And at last, they reached its deepest chamber.
