Reset revenge

Xiao Lin scowled as Mimoko approached her lake. "Tch, it's you. Why are you mocking me with your appearance?"

"Not my intention, but I am here for vengeance in a sense," Mimoko glared.

Once the board was ready, things began with Mimoko opening by moving her knight to f3 and Xiao Lin moving her pawn to d5.

D4, knight f6, c4, c6, knight c3, a6, e3, b5, b3, bishop g4, h3, bishop captures f3, g captures f3, b-knight d7, f4, e6, c5, bishop e7, bishop d3, a5, and queen c2 all played out before a king's side castle from Xiao Lin shifted things in Mimoko's favor. This only proved to be a phase though as after a4, b4, knight b1, g6, knight d2, knight h5, rook g1, knight g7, knight f3, rook b8, bishop b2, queen c7, rook h1, knight f5, h4, h5, rook g1, king h8, a queen's side castle, knight captures h4, knight captures h4, bishop captures h4, rook h1, bishop d8, d-rook g1, knight f6, and king b1, things were even again.

"And after all that. Too bad! I'm the maestro, you're not," Xiao Lin scoffed as she moved her king to g7.

Mimoko's eyes widened as she captured the pawn at g6 with her bishop.

"Oh look at you, cowering before the maestro!" Xiao Lin snarled as she captured the bishop at g6 with her f-pawn.

"I question your true skill. Check," Mimoko glared as she captured the pawn at g6 with her queen, forcing Xiao Lin's king to h8.

She then moved her rook to g5, prompting Xiao Lin to move her rook to f7. Next came a series of checks starting with g-rook captures h5, check, rook h7, rook captures h7, check, knight captures h7, queen e8, check, king g7, and finally, rook g1, check, resulting in knight g5.

Xiao Lin didn't realize how drastically things had shifted until after queen captures e6, rook b7, f captures g5, queen h2, rook c1, queen captures f2, queen h6, check, king g8, and queen captures c6.

"Tch, damn brat. Check," Xiao Lin scowled as she moved her queen to f5.

Mimoko rolled her eyes and moved her king to a2 as Xiao Lin gritted her teeth and moved her rook to e7. "Knight, knight, bishop, rook, that's what I'd need thus far, and so far, I have plenty of pawns for it. However, there's still a rook, bishop, queen and three pawns on her side," Mimoko thought as she moved her queen to a8.

Now with the advantage, Mimoko's next priority was setting things up for a reset mate. Rook e8, c6, queen f7, queen b7, bishop c7, g6, queen g7, rook f1, rook b8, queen a7, and bishop d6 played out before Mimoko was able to capture the pawn at a5 with her queen. However, Xiao Lin in turn captured the pawn at g6 with her queen.

"Mm, I'll have to think this through," Mimoko thought as she checked Xiao Lin by capturing the pawn at d5 with her queen.

Thus, a new dance began with king g7, queen c4, bishop g3, c7, rook c8, d5, check, king h6, rook h1, check, king g5, d6, queen f5, rook g1, queen g4, d7, then suddenly, Mimoko was on the bubble as Xiao Lin captured the queen at c4 with her queen, prompting Mimoko to capture the rook at c8 with her d-pawn and promote it to a queen. Now she couldn't lose a single piece more, otherwise no reset mate.

Queen f4, queen g8, check, king f5, queen d5, check, queen e5, queen f3, check, king g6, then finally Mimoko was in the clear as she was able to capture the queen at e5 with her bishop, leaving Xiao Lin with only a trapped pawn and a pinned bishop. Immediately after Xiao Lin moved her king to h7, Mimoko captured the bishop at g3 with her queen.

"Tch, damn you," Xiao Lin glared as she moved her king to h7.

However, instead of mating her, Mimoko instead moved her pawn to c8 and promoted it to a rook.

"No... NO! I CAN'T RESIGN, DON'T YOU DARE!" Xiao Lin shouted as she moved her king to h6.

"Oh that's why I'm doing it," Mimoko glared as she moved her rook to b8.

Now, all that was necessary was to get all the pieces and avoid stalemate or a checkmate which was easy for someone like Mimoko. Rook b8, king h7, rook captures b4, king h6, rook g4, king h7, a5, king h6, a6, king h7, a7, king h6, then after a8, Mimoko had a light-squared bishop back on the board, meaning all that was needed were the knights.

King h7, b4, king h6, b5, king h7, bishop b2, king h6, b6, king h7, b7, king h6, then b8 and knight number 1 was back. King h7, e4, king h6, e5, king h7, e6, king h6, e7, king h7, then e8 and the second knight was back. Now Mimoko just had to get things set up, then drag the king over to d2.

"The last move was the check, but this is the true coup de gras," Mimoko smiled as she moved her queen to d6.

Xiao Lin began sweating as she went pale. "NO! NO! I'M A MAESTRO! I CAN'T LOSE LIKE THIS!" she cried as she was forced to move her king to d2.

"It's what you get for messing with us. Checkmate," Mimoko huffed as she moved her queen to d1, winning the game with a reset mate.
