Chapter 11:

Grand Discovery

Elements Of The Five Spirits Volume 2

Fujidai remained atop the shadowy white tiger, taking in the sight of the village residents. Dragon-like crystal scales shimmered across their skin and adorned their woven armor.

Fujidai glanced back at Yuki. "What the hell? Why didn't you mention you were beastfolk?"
Yuki slapped the back of his head with an annoyed huff. "Hey, asshole, don't ever compare my people to those humanoid animals! Our race has existed since the dawn of the universe, just like the elves!"

"Elves?" Fujidai tilted his head, confused. "Aren't they from a completely different universe?"
"All the realms were separated and jumbled together ages ago," Yuki explained as the tiger padded smoothly through the stone streets. "My ancestors said there are twelve and a half dimensions total—maybe more.

But everything took a turn for the worse because of Lord Enma, the Yōkai King of the Underworld, and his most devout follower, Amanozako. She's a dark goddess who defied the heavens, and she rules over a massive territory in this dimension."

Yuki waved warmly to several villagers who gathered to marvel at the giant shadow tiger. She hopped down off its back, continuing on foot.

"Though," Yuki added nonchalantly, "one of Lord Enma's top commanders was recently killed by a boy who wields fiery flames."

Fujidai’s eyes narrowed instantly, his fists clenching until his knuckles turned white. "Kai Kazan."
Yuki paused, glancing over her shoulder. "You know him?"
"He's my rival," Fujidai growled, his voice dropping an octave. "I left him behind to get stronger. I thought he was dead... I practically killed him myself."
Yuki’s eye widened in shock. "Why would you do that? Aren't you two friends? Isn't that what rivals are?"

"We have two very different understandings of power," Fujidai huffed, crossing his arms tight.
"YUKI!" a booming voice echoed across the square.

A tall, heavily muscled man with scarred shoulders ran toward them, scooping Yuki up into a massive bear hug that lifted her straight off her feet. "My daughter! You're alive!"
"Good to see you too, Dad," Yuki gasped out, hugging him back before gesturing to Fujidai. "I made it back thanks to him."

She pointed at the demon bird hovering nearby. "And that's his pet bird."
Onmoraki squawked indignantly, raising his wings. "Hey! I am no one's damn pe—"
Fujidai reached out without looking, snapping Onmoraki's beak shut with his hand. "Good pet. Now shut up."

Yuki's father turned his gaze onto Fujidai. Fujidai instantly straightened his posture, staring back with an unyielding look.

The large man slapped a massive hand onto Fujidai's shoulder, the force heavy enough to rattle his collarbones. He burst into a boisterous laugh. "So, boy! Are you my daughter's new boyfriend?"
Fujidai blinked, completely thrown off.

Yuki's face flushed bright red. She delivered a lightning-fast punch straight into her father's stomach, sending the muscular chief crashing to the dirt. "Dad! Don't embarrass me!"
How is he not dead from that hit? both Fujidai and Onmoraki thought simultaneously.
The man stood back up without a scratch, still laughing heartily. "My boy, call me Chief Asuma!"
"Nice to meet you, Asuma," Fujidai nodded respectfully.

Yuki pushed her laughing father away. "Okay, enough! Go back to Mom!"
As Chief Asuma waved goodbye and walked off, Yuki let out a heavy sigh. "Sorry about him. He's a bit much."

"It's fine," Fujidai replied, his tone softening slightly. "At least you have a good relationship with your parents. I never had that with my family—we never saw eye-to-eye. That's why I have to beat Kai. He chose me as his rival, and I won't lose."

Yuki placed a gentle hand on his shoulder, giving him a warm smile. "I believe in you, Fujidai."
Fujidai smirked subtly, turning his gaze back to the shadow tiger, which was currently letting local kids pet its dark, smoking fur.

"Kai's existence poses a threat," Fujidai added darkly. "Ancient prophecy says his power could destabilize everything if left unchecked."

Yuki nodded thoughtfully. "I understand. But if you want my people's full support, we have a major problem right here in this dimension. Someone is keeping us trapped and suppressed."

Fujidai narrowed his eyes. "Amanozako?"

"Exactly," Yuki confirmed.

"She will be eliminated. I promise you that."

Yuki stepped directly into his space, popping her hands behind her back with a sly grin. "You know, for someone who talks so tough, you're a big softie underneath."

Fujidai scoffed loudly, turning his head as Onmoraki giggled beside him. "Shut up! Where do we even find this goddess?" "Her domain is far from here," Yuki explained, scratching her cheek. "She rarely moves unless drawn out. We'd have to catch her attention or wait for her to march here herself."

"I suppose that makes sense," Fujidai muttered, rubbing his chin. Yuki placed her hands on her hips, striking a proud pose. "Yeah! I'm a smart girl, duh!" "Whatever," Fujidai rolled his eyes. "If we're waiting, then I'm training." "I'll handle your training, kid!" Onmoraki squawked, taking flight. "Let me show you how a real ancient spirit operates!" Fujidai whistled, jumping onto the back of the white tiger as it sprinted toward the open training grounds.

Meanwhile, near the village center, Chief Asuma was helping his wife, Yor, wash linens.
"You know, Yor," Asuma chuckled, "I really like that Fujidai kid. He's got spirit." Yor smiled gently, wringing out a cloth. "He has a kind soul underneath all that armor. It would be wonderful if he stayed around... Yuki might finally bring home a proper boyfriend."

Yuki walked up right at that moment, her face exploding into a bright red blush. "MOM!"
Asuma scratched his chin, grinning. "Hey, it could happen!" Yuki groaned, burying her face in her hands. "Whatever... He said he's going to defeat Amanozako for us. I just hope he can actually pull it off."

Yor looked toward the training grounds with quiet confidence. "He can. That young man possesses one of the strongest spirits in this entire dimension."

Out on the open plains, Fujidai traded rapid blows with Onmoraki. He deflected the demon bird's wing-blades, driving a swift fist toward his face. Onmoraki ducked low, snagging Fujidai's collar with his talons, and hurled him high into the air.

Flipping mid-flight, Fujidai manifested a massive array of shadow spikes, spinning them into a dense projectile and hurling it downward. Onmoraki let out a deafening, sonic squawk that shattered the shadow construct into fine dust.

As Fujidai landed, a sudden, crushing weight washed over the entire realm.
The ambient spiritual pressure spiked to astronomical levels, making the air feel as thick as lead. Fujidai flexed his muscles, gritting his teeth to keep his knees from buckling under the sheer intensity.

"What the hell is this pressure?!" Fujidai grunted, sweat pouring down his temples.
Onmoraki landed beside him, his expression deadly serious. "It's her. Amanozako. She must have unleashed her full power at her fortress." "She's here in the village?!"
"No," Onmoraki shook his head. "She's thousands of miles away in the northern peaks. Her spirit wave is so immense it's pulsing through the entire Sixth Dimension."

Fujidai looked back toward the village, seeing several civilians collapsing to their knees from the overwhelming spiritual weight. His eyes narrowed. Slamming his hands onto the earth, Fujidai channeled his shadow energy: Shadow Manipulation: Absolute Protective Domain!
A vast web of deep purple dark-chi spread rapidly across the entire village, forming a protective barrier overhead that absorbed and neutralized the crushing pressure wave radiating from the north.

Fujidai stood up, exhaling heavily. "A small token of my gratitude... Now tell me where she is."
A villager ran up to him, pointing toward the horizon. "Her fortress lies deep within the Northern Frozen Wastes!"

"Got a long way to go," Fujidai sighed, stretching his arms over his head. He mounted the shadow tiger once more. "Let's move, boy." The white tiger let out a low growl, breaking into a high-speed stride toward the northern wilderness with Onmoraki flying overhead.
"Do you really think you can defeat a celestial goddess with so little preparation?" Onmoraki called down over the wind.

Fujidai smirked, staring straight ahead. "Warriors grow strongest under absolute pressure. Kai proved that every time he fought a monster, he broke his limits. This is just another wall to break."
"She isn't just some wall!" Onmoraki barked. "She defied the heavens themselves!" Fujidai chuckled, leaning forward on the tiger's neck. "Like I said... a minor obstacle."

After hours of non-stop travel, the group paused near a massive stone outcrop to rest. Fujidai sat leaned up against a boulder, closing his eyes to recover his chi.

Suddenly, a loud rustling echoed through the tree line. Fujidai snapped his eyes open, drawing his blade as a giant grey-and-brown beast burst through the foliage! Before he could strike, he spotted Yuki sitting atop the creature's back with a wide grin. Fujidai lowered his sword, raising an eyebrow.

"What the hell, Yuki?! You scared the life out of me—I was about to vaporize that thing!" Yuki slid down the side of the creature. "I'm coming with you! I'm going to assist in the fight!" Fujidai shook his head firmly. "No way. It's too dangerous. What would your father say— "Yuki stepped in close, placing a slender finger over his lips to hush him. "My dad already knows. Besides, as a future leader, I need to stand alongside anyone fighting for my people's freedom."

Fujidai tried to argue, but Onmoraki flew down, slapping Fujidai across the head with his wing feathers. "We'd be more than happy to have a skilled warrior join us!" Onmoraki declared. "We need all the help we can get!"

Spitting out a loose feather, Fujidai pinched the bridge of his nose and let out a sharp exhale. "Fine... But don't slow me down. I can't afford distractions." He set up a small campfire, sitting cross-legged with his arms folded as he drifted into a light sleep. Yuki sat beside her giant, furred mount, brushing its thick coat. Onmoraki landed nearby, curious. "What kind of beast is that?"
"It's a Fox-Dog," Yuki smiled softly. "It's standard transport for my people." Onmoraki preened his wing. "I see."

Yuki looked over at Fujidai, watching his quiet, intense face in the firelight. "Why is he always so tense?" Onmoraki's expression softened slightly. "Who knows... He's just driven. He wants to prove his worth to the people he respects. That's why he's so obsessed with surpassing Kai."
Yuki smiled, leaning her head against her mount. "That's actually kind of adorable."
Onmoraki chuckled. "Get some sleep. We have a long road ahead tomorrow."
Yuki nodded, closing her eye as the fire crackled gently in the quiet jungle night.
