Chapter 12:

Battle Of A Goddess

Elements Of The Five Spirits Volume 2

Yuki stretched as she woke up, rubbing her eye to see Fujidai already checking their gear.
"Oh, you're awake," Fujidai said, glancing over his shoulder. "We need to start moving, Yuki. Otherwise, we won't make it to the northern fortress anytime soon."

"Alright, alright, I'm getting up!" Yuki stretched her arms above her head, letting out a long yawn.
Onmoraki flapped his wings and preened a loose feather. "Before we charge into a divine war, there's a natural hot spring nearby. We should bathe and recover our spirits first."

"Fine by me," Fujidai agreed, mounting the shadow white tiger. "Lead the way, bird."

Yuki hopped onto her fox-dog, following close behind. As they rode, she caught Fujidai side-eyeing her mount. "What are you staring at, emo boy?" she teased, tilting her head.

Fujidai shook his head, looking away. "Nothing. Just thinking." Minutes later, they arrived at a massive, steaming hot spring nestled between ancient stone cliffs. Onmoraki landed in the crystal-clear water with a peaceful sigh.

"We need a divider," Fujidai said. Slamming his palm against the ground, Fujidai channeled his earth chi, causing a massive stone wall to erupt from the basin floor and split the hot spring straight down the middle.

From the other side of the stone barrier, Yuki leaned her head back against the warm rock, her voice echoing over the divider. "So, what's the actual plan once we get face-to-face with Amanozako?"

Fujidai leaned back into the steaming water, closing his eyes. "Convince her to apologize to your people and leave this realm for good." "And if she doesn't listen?" Yuki asked.
Fujidai opened his eyes, staring up at the morning sky. "Then I kill her."

On the other side of the wall, Yuki's face went completely deadpan—her eyes half-closed, her expression flat, heavy shade washing over the top half of her face in profound disbelief. "Man, we are so doomed..." she whispered to herself.

After washing up, the group pushed northward until the dense jungle suddenly gave way to an endless expanse of open cobblestone plates surrounding a colossal, golden palace.
Fujidai paused, looking around the barren landscape. "I thought damaged flora in this realm regenerates instantly? Why are there no trees here?" Yuki side-eyed him. "She's a dark goddess from the heavens. Her presence alone suppresses nature."

"Right..." Fujidai muttered.

Without warning, the sky darkened as thousands of dark-chi arrows rained down toward them.
"Look out!" Fujidai yelled.

Unsheathing his katana in a blinding flash, Fujidai delivered a single sweeping arc that vaporized the entire rain of arrows mid-air. "When I give the word, keep moving!"
Yuki nodded quickly. "Got it!"

Fujidai signaled Onmoraki, who transformed into a glowing dark tattoo along Fujidai's forearm. The shadow white tiger launched Fujidai high into the air. Snatching a stray arrow out of the sky, Fujidai used shadow manipulation to form aerial platforms, leaping forward at blinding speed.
"Shadow Manipulation: Eclipse Slash!"

Fujidai brought his blade down upon the vanguard of the palace defense force, triggering a violent shadow explosion that kicked up a wall of dust.
"GO!" Fujidai shouted.

Yuki and her fox-dog sprinted through the front gates of the palace. Fujidai carved through the remaining yōkai guards with ease, weaving between their strikes and slicing them down.
Raising his hand, Fujidai released a pulse of dark chi. "Rise." The fallen yōkai army reanimated as shadow thralls, marching behind Fujidai as he strode into the palace halls. Inside the main courtyard, Yuki was already deep in combat. Dodging a heavy swing from a brute yōkai, she delivered a swift kick to its midsection, grabbed it by the horns, and slammed its head into the stone floor. Snatching its massive battle axe, she spun in a fluid circle, slicing through enemy armor like paper with a bright smile on her face. Beside her, her fox-dog tossed yōkai guards into the air, swatting them away with its massive tail.

Fujidai walked through the hall, raising his hand to convert the remaining fallen guards into shadow thralls.

Yuki leaned casually on the heavy battle axe, wiping sweat from her brow. "Hey, I was cleaning those up!"

Fujidai smirked with subtle amusement. "Let's keep moving. You two wait here," he added, turning to the white tiger and fox-dog, who sat obediently by the grand entrance.

Fujidai and Yuki walked down the main corridor until they reached two towering, armored elite sentinels guarding massive golden doors. Fujidai reached for his hilt, but the sentinels simply bowed and pulled the doors open for them.

Keeping his hand on his sword, Fujidai stepped into the throne room alongside Yuki.
At the far end of the hall, relaxed on a grand golden throne, sat Amanozako. Servants waved long silk fans beside her as she casually ate grapes. She possessed a striking human silhouette with flowing black hair, elongated elven ears, and deep purple demon horns curving from her brow.
She looked down at them, her voice dripping with venomous amusement. "Well, if it isn't the Kazan boy's little shadow... and a lone Dagon. How remarkably bold of you to enter my sanctuary."
Fujidai stepped in front of Yuki, his gaze icy. "We're here to force you to apologize to the Dagons and clear out of this dimension."

Amanozako slowly sat up, her red and white robes draping over the throne. She stepped down from the dais, stopping a few meters away. A venomous smile spread across her face.
"No."

Fujidai narrowed his eyes. He and Yuki lunged forward simultaneously, but Amanozako simply snapped her fingers.
"Kneel."

An absolute gravitational pressure slammed onto both of them, forcing their knees to smash into the stone floor. Fujidai gritted his teeth, his arms shaking violently as he forced his head up to glare at her.

"You think you can waltz into my home and make demands?" Amanozako laughed, her voice echoing through the massive hall. "Do you know what I am?! I. Am. A. GOD!"
With a sudden burst of willpower, Fujidai broke free of the pressure, driving an explosive upward punch straight into her chin! Amanozako's head snapped back from the impact, giving Yuki enough time to leap backward to safety.

Amanozako slowly lowered her head, wiping a trace of dark chi from her lip. "Fine, then... let's play." One second, she was standing meters away. The next, her fingers were dug deep into Fujidai's collar.

There was no wind. There was no blur. She hadn't just closed the distance—she had bypassed the very concept of physical travel. Because she moved hundreds of times faster than light, her visual image was still standing near the throne, even as her physical hand lifted Fujidai off his feet.
Fujidai's legs dangled in mid-air, his eyes wide with confusion as he stared at her ghostly afterimage across the room.

"Get out of my sky," Amanozako smirked. She hurled him straight up into the air, driving her fist upward with a roar. "SKY BREAKER!"

The force of the strike shattered the atmospheric pressure in the room, tearing a massive hole through Fujidai's chest armor and blasting him straight through the palace ceiling. He crashed into the far outer wall, leaving a massive web of cracks in the reinforced stone. "FUJIDAI!" Yuki screamed.

She charged with the battle axe, but Amanozako was far too fast. She ducked under the swing, caught the steel blade in her jaws, and bit straight through the heavy metal, swallowing the fragment whole.

Amanozako extended an open palm toward Yuki's face. "Feel Despair."
A wave of divine emotional suppression washed over Yuki. Her heart sank, her eyes losing their luster as profound, paralyzing despair locked her limbs in place. She collapsed to her knees, unable to move.

Amanozako raised the broken haft of the axe to strike her down, but a streak of black lightning flashed between them as Fujidai unsheathed his blade, blocking the blow just in time!

"You think you can stand against me?" Amanozako sneered, pressing down. "My physical might overpowers the heavens! I have hurled gods through entire mountain ranges! You are NOTHING!"
Amanozako leaned forward and bit straight through Fujidai's katana blade, shattering the steel. Before he could react, she drove a devastating punch into his midsection.

The kinetic shockwave vaporized the stone floor into a crater a hundred meters wide. The impact blasted Fujidai through the sound barrier three times over, launching him straight through the inner sanctuary walls until he hit the outer perimeter barrier.

Yuki forced herself to crawl toward the dust cloud, her voice hoarse. "Fujidai..."
Amanozako stepped up behind Yuki, kicking her high into the air. The compressed wind pressure launched Yuki skyward, where Amanozako materialized above her, unleashing a flurry of imperceptible punches that struck Yuki's abdomen, leaving afterimages suspended in the air.
Below, Fujidai slowly pushed himself up from the rubble, blood dripping from his brow.
"Shadow Army... arise!" he spat.

Hundreds of reanimated shadow soldiers swarmed Amanozako in mid-air, creating a temporary distraction. Fujidai leapt up, catching Yuki gently in his arms and landing back on the stone floor.
"Are you okay?" Fujidai asked, his breath heavy.

Yuki nodded weakly, coughing. "I... I can fight..."
Amanozako materialized directly behind Fujidai, placing her hands on his cheeks. "My dear boy... why the painful frown? Give me a big smile!"

Driven by her divine command, Fujidai's lips forced themselves into a rigid grin. Gritting his teeth against the magic, Fujidai whipped his head back, driving a violent headbutt straight into her nose!
Amanozako stumbled back, clutching her face.

Fujidai opened a small dark void, retrieving the true Kusanagi-no-Tsurugi. Channeling absolute hurricane winds, he launched a tearing gale that caught Amanozako's shoulder, slicing deep into her flesh.

"Clones, move!" Fujidai ordered.

Four shadow clones rushed Amanozako from all sides, trading rapid blows. The real Fujidai flicked his wrist toward the sky. "Black Lightning!"

A bolt of dark, volatile lightning struck down through the broken ceiling, engulfing Amanozako in a roaring column of electricity. Fujidai closed the distance, driving a heavy right hook into her jaw that snapped her head back.

Amanozako recovered instantly, driving a counter-strike into Fujidai's gut that dispersed his remaining clones and sent him skidding across the floor.

One surviving clone scooped up Yuki, carrying her to a safe vantage point near the perimeter.
Floating high above the throne room, Fujidai slammed his palms together. Shadow chi poured out from his body in insane quantities, drawing in stone, debris, and atmospheric mass from across the palace grounds to form a colossal, pitch-black meteor that hovered over the fortress—larger than a moon.

"Catch this, you arrogant woman!" Fujidai roared, throwing his hands down.

Amanozako looked up, her brow furrowed as she caught the bottom of the colossal falling meteor with her bare hands, her boots grinding into the bedrock.

Fujidai manifested his shadow scythe, channeling pure annihilation chi into the blade. "ANNIHILATION STRIKE!"

He slashed downward, sending a vertical beam of absolute destruction that cleaved both the meteor and Amanozako completely in half before detonating in a blinding explosion!
Fujidai landed heavily on the scorched earth, panting for air.

Through the clearing smoke, Amanozako's severed torso began to stitch itself back together with dark crimson threads. Snatching a massive, burning fragment of the meteor, she hurled it at Fujidai with divine speed.

Fujidai barely managed to twist his body—the dense rock sheared his left arm completely off at the shoulder!

Clenching his jaw against the agonizing pain, Fujidai used his shadow manipulation to reattach the severed limb with dark threads. Surging forward, he drove the Kusanagi-no-Tsurugi straight through Amanozako's neck!

Amanozako's eyes flared with unbridled rage. Reaching up, she grabbed the legendary blade with her bare hands and snapped the divine metal into pieces, swallowing the shards whole as her neck wound instantly sealed.

Reaching into Fujidai's chest with a non-physical intangible phase, her fingers wrapped directly around his spiritual core.

"Such an evil boy... all this dark emotion is delicious," she whispered with a twisted smile. "Oh, but your heart beats for her... how utterly heroic."
"GET OFF ME!" Fujidai roared.

Focusing every ounce of pure darkness within his soul, Fujidai delivered a heavy, shadow-infused punch straight to her jaw! The dark chi negated her divine regeneration, shattering her jaw completely and sending her flying across the ruined hall.

Amanozako crashed into the outer wall, clutching her broken jaw. When she tried to heal the damage, Fujidai's nullification chi blocked her divine magic, keeping the jaw completely shattered.
A visceral, terrifying red aura erupted from Amanozako's body. Her long black hair floated upward like dark tentacles as an earth-shattering, reality-warping roar tore from her throat, amplifying her divine pressure to terrifying, catastrophic levels.

She glared at Fujidai with pure, unadulterated hatred.
