Chapter 0:

Prologue

Regalia Hyper Pursuit

In the days of old, stood a kingdom unlike any before or since. It was powerful and the king actually stood for justice as well as the prosperity of his people. Instead of me just simply telling you about it, allow me to show you a little more.

The sun cast a beautiful warmth over the kingdom of Shoren that day, much as it had every other day. Children laughed and played in the streets whilst the adults worked their jobs, such as building and baking. The king whose name is Freegin signed a peace treaty with a neighboring kingdom that is far smaller named Drodgeek. It stated that they would open trade again in exchange for laborers to help pave the roads connecting the two kingdoms. And thus there was peace here for two years.

That peace lasted until one day... the king came down with a mysterious illness. It was raining then. Heavily. Whilst it poured, the kingdom of Karyak attacked! Using flame magic they burned houses down to ash and destroyed farmland and crops despite their drenched state.

Hearing of this, even in his weakened state, Freegin took his strongest men and marched down upon the hoard of monsters.

While they were fighting, the queen, being unsure if they would be able to repel the attack, took a baby from the royal nursery, dawning a thick black cloak as she descended the long flight stairs. Just before reaching the landing, a maid stopped her. She stated it would be far too dangerous for Queen Abigail to be alone, or for her to leave the protection of the castle. Queen Abigail knew the maid was right, so she handed the babe to the girl and told her: "Then you must go, Anri. Take this child and make sure he lives. It may be our only hope..." She nodded, holding the boy close. A knight came and escorted the queen back to her room.

Anri's hands shook as she walked through and out of the castle. She sneaks through the back passage and into the nearby surrounding forest. The brush there was thick and overgrown. The rest of the forest was nearly completely abandoned and neglected after the gardener had left (Because it was found out he was secretly a bit of a perv who would steal looks at the maids in the bathing houses.) Ignoring how treacherous the terrain was she marched through it. Three hours passed before she took a moment to breath and collect her thoughts. However, there were hardly any. Only two, 1, "Why did I get this responsibility?" and 2, "What do I do now?"

As that second thought ran it's course she noticed a small creek and quickly decided to use it to clean the baby still protected in her arms. And as she cleaned the baby's face she made a decision, to take the baby in as her own. Now all she did was walk. And walk, and walk, all the way until she stumbled upon a small town where the forest and mountain met. Sitting there at the edge of town she ran into a small older man. His name was Grimm. Which upon seeing her immediately dropped the fishing rod he was holding and ran over to her. "Oh my days!", he exclaimed as he helped hold her up.

"What the devil have you been through?" As he examined the baby in her arms he also gestured to let him hold the baby. "In any case we need to get you off your feet."

Anri nodded tiredly and walked into Grimm's house, which was rather small and cozy, but barely large enough for three people.

Grimm asked if she needed to stay the night. Anri sighed and replied, "Yes." And explained the whole situation. Grimm shook his head. Being distressed and slightly saddened by the news he decided to talk both in under one condition, he gets to be the grandfather of the baby. Anri agreed but questioned why Grimm even offered. Grimm replied with a small story of a time that the king had saved him from a river monster called a, sea serpent (for some reason), and he owed the king a mighty big favor. Anri understood in that moment both the king and Grimm were men of honor at least enough to carry out favors.

As such she went and cleaned up and changed into a new outfit, which once belonged to Grimms wife, Cherry, who went missing one day. The town ran around for a week straight trying to find her. When they couldn't they mourned for an additional week, almost no work was done. Grimm of course thought she looked beautiful in it and complimented her. Anri blushed lightly and did a small twirl, even the baby claps. Anri's beauty was undeniable.

A little after the improve dress up show (yuck), Anri walked around the town. There were only thirteen houses and thirty residents at the time.

By sheer happenstance Anri first met Ella, who was a single woman who desperately wanted a child. Sensing that the woman was a better fit as a mother, as she was older and had a family in the town, Anri not so reluctantly gave the baby to Ella. She was ecstatic for a lack of better words. Ella insisted that Anri had to be the aunt because she was the one who brought the baby to town in the first place. Anri agreed, after about an hour of convincing. When the two went back to Grimms house they told him, and his eye's lit up like a bonfire. He jumped up in joy but hurt his back because he was old. He then sat down on a chair that was nearby and groaned for a second before he asked what were they going to name the baby. Anri froze up for a couple of seconds. She hadn't thought of that yet. So, after a few seconds to contemplate, she reasoned with, "Trey. We'll name him, Trey. After the knight that stood guard over the nursery."

Everyone liked the name and it stuck rather quickly. After a day news spread all around town about the new woman and Ella's baby, Trey. They were all lining up to meet both and welcome them in with open arms. It had been four years since a new person moved there. (At the time, now we can't go more that two months without someone new walking through town.) After four years it really feels like they're family. Now I may not know what will happen next. But I know this has to be written so my nephew will know his history. And well that's it. I'm going fishing with Grimm.

- Much love and respect
