In this era of superheroes, if you did not have sidekicks, a family, or some kind of legacy group, you could almost be embarrassed to call yourself famous.
The Superman family.
The Batman family.
The Flash family.
The Wonder Woman family.
All of them were practically standard equipment for popular heroes. They went out with entourages, and if you were not familiar with them, you might not even know who was who.
Even Green Arrow, who had copied plenty from Batman, had built a Green Arrow family. Red Arrow, Speedy, Arsenal, and more appeared one after another.
Could anyone believe that?
Donna Troy was one of the better-known members of the Wonder Woman family besides Diana herself.
Her origin story could fill a whole book titled Looking for My Mother. In a DC universe that rebooted constantly, sometimes big, sometimes small, sometimes soft, sometimes hard, her origin had been rewritten again and again until it was nearly impossible to track.
Before meeting her, even Damon could not guess where she had come from.
Maybe that was what happened when a character became popular enough.
Damon wrapped his arms around Lilah and rested his chin on her shoulder while watching the woman who was probably Donna Troy fight Ares in the distance.
Donna Troy's most famous origin involved a sorceress of Themyscira using a magic mirror to copy Diana and create Donna Troy. As Diana's duplicate, Donna had much of Diana's personality. In childhood, Dark Angel mistook her for Diana, abducted her, and trapped her in an endless cycle of tragic lives.
Years later, Wonder Woman, Hippolyta, and the Flash saved her.
Because Donna possessed most of Diana's abilities, she called herself Wonder Girl and carried a set of equipment similar to Wonder Woman's. She became one of the founding members of the Teen Titans, the team formed by the Justice League's proteges and sidekicks. During one period when Diana withdrew from the world, Donna briefly took on the Wonder Woman title.
In the post-Justice League era, when the new wave replaced the old, Batman's first Robin, Dick Grayson, who had later left to become Nightwing and had also helped found the Teen Titans, invited her to join the Justice League. Donna defeated Prometheus, who had single-handedly wrecked the Green Arrow family.
They both copied others, but Green Arrow was clearly not good enough.
And what man wanted to hear he was not good enough?
For example, Lilah had clearly forgotten her earlier exhaustion. Because she did not have super vision and could not see the distant battle, her attention naturally fell on Damon behind her. Her small hand shifted, and Damon, with several layers of enhanced senses stacked on himself, shivered at once.
When Lilah saw how strongly he reacted, she became even more enthusiastic. She did not know why Diana had left, or what was happening in the distance. She only knew she wanted to satisfy Damon.
Far away, in the flames, Ares moved his fingers lightly. The ground began to tremble. Then something beneath the earth tore upward in layers, rushing toward his opponent.
Whether she was Wonder Woman or Wonder Girl, she dodged quickly. But the difference in power was too great. After several movements, she fell. A piece of metal from somewhere slammed over her, tightened quickly, and pinned her to the ground.
"You come from Themyscira, but you are not Diana. Who are you?"
Ares asked in a low voice, looking almost as if he could turn into a wolf at any moment.
"Donna Troy. The one who will defeat you."
She gritted her teeth and struggled fiercely, but it had no effect.
"Since you are not my sister, then..."
Ares casually raised a hand. A car flew from the distance and smashed toward Donna Troy.
Donna instinctively shut her eyes.
Then came a deafening boom. Heat rolled outward.
"Hm?"
Feeling that she had not been struck, Donna opened her eyes and saw a tall, heroic woman in Amazon armor like her own standing in front of her with a shield.
"Are you Diana?"
Donna Troy asked in surprise.
Diana turned to look at Donna, bent down, and smashed her shield into the metal.
Bang.
The metal shattered, and Donna flipped back to her feet.
"What is your name?"
Diana kept her gaze on Ares and asked Donna.
"Donna Troy. I came by Queen Hippolyta's order to kill Ares, the god of war."
So Mother was involved after all.
Diana thought of Damon's analysis and paused slightly, then stared at Ares with a grave expression.
"Ares. I will defeat you and make humanity peaceful and kind again. I will prevent the crisis that destroys the gods from being born."
Ares looked at Diana with her shield, then at Donna with her silver lasso, and sneered.
"War comes from humanity's own choices. I only whisper in their ears and give them flashes of inspiration to create stronger weapons. I never make them use those weapons."
"They choose war themselves."
"Humanity is the one destroying an Earth that was once natural, peaceful, and beautiful. Diana, my sister, join me. Let us reclaim Earth from humans and make it natural and beautiful as it was."
Ares extended a hand toward Diana with expectation.
"You will not succeed."
Diana shook her head firmly.
Ares laughed. The sound gradually turned cruel and cold.
"With only you two?"
"Yes."
Donna Troy shouted, and the silver lasso suddenly flew toward Ares. At the same time, Diana seemed to understand her intent and charged with her shield.
Snap.
The silver rope wrapped around Ares's hand.
Diana had already reached him.
A mocking smile flashed across Ares's mouth. He stomped down hard, and the ground rose up instantly, throwing Diana backward. At the same time, he pulled the silver lasso and swung his arm.
Bang.
Donna Troy, thrown by the force, collided with Diana in midair.
Both grunted, then rose separately and charged again.
But the old monster was still an old monster.
Ares showed Diana and Donna Troy what a true gap in strength looked like.
It was a brutal beating.
One moment Diana went flying.
The next, Donna Troy went flying.
Then both went flying together.
They had no way to fight back.
"Now this is intense."
Damon, who had watched the whole thing, shuddered with excitement. Without looking at Lilah, who had slumped against the window, utterly spent, he turned to find his clothes, put them on, and jumped straight out the window.
