Diana had heard Damon and the Legends say many times that she would become Wonder Woman in the future.
So when Damon said he had seen Wonder Woman, Diana's first reaction was to point at herself.
"Me? I have been here the entire time."
"You are Wonder Woman, yes, but Wonder Woman is not necessarily only you."
Damon's mouth curved upward, his eyes flashing with excitement.
"That is why I find this interesting. I actually saw another Wonder Woman here. Who is she? Where did she come from? I am impatient to learn her identity."
"Where did you see her?"
Diana wanted to know too.
Damon shook his head.
"She is already far away. But since she appeared here, finding her should not be difficult. First, we need a good place to watch the show."
"Maybe she is also here to stop Ares," Diana guessed.
"Who knows?"
Damon had originally planned to wander around and then go directly to Ares, but now he changed his mind.
He opened a room on the top floor of the tallest hotel in the city. Under the envious gaze of the attendant, Damon took Diana and Lilah straight upstairs.
"The view is decent."
Standing by the window, Damon nodded with satisfaction. From there, he could see most of the city. If that Wonder Woman had also come to find Ares, he should notice quickly once fighting began.
He turned, pulled Lilah, who was looking everywhere with curiosity, onto the bed, removed her coat, and loosened her corset. Then he rested his head on her lap and undid the laces of her outfit. Without its restraint, the fabric loosened at once.
Damon toyed with her casually and smiled at Diana, who had walked to the window to look outside.
"This Wonder Woman must be connected to Themyscira. I am wondering if your mother found a substitute after leaving you with me. Someone to become Wonder Woman in your place and complete your mission. If she can defeat Ares, good. If not, at least you are safe and still have a chance to complete the mission later."
"Mother never mentioned anything like that to me."
Diana turned around as she spoke, and the moment she saw the absurd scene on the bed, her eyes widened. She had just opened her mouth when she saw Lilah actively touching Damon.
"Do not go too far," Diana said with a frown.
"Too far?"
Damon looked up at Lilah.
Lilah smiled beautifully.
"Of course not."
Damon laughed with pride.
"You are allowed to dislike it, but do not nag me. Otherwise, I do not mind doing something excessive to you. I have already done plenty, after all."
The Lasso of Truth glowed in his hand.
Diana fell silent and turned back toward the window.
"I love that look of yours. You cannot stand me, but you cannot do anything about me either."
Damon chuckled, then simply rolled over and lay back, giving Lilah a glance. Lilah understood at once and took the initiative.
The soundtrack of hell.
That was what it felt like.
Diana felt it was even more painful than Athena's voice repeating in her mind. Several times, she wanted to turn and leave, but she feared Damon would be reminded of some new way to torment her. She could only stare fixedly out the window at a view that barely changed.
Fortunately, she knew very little about human society, so for a while it did not feel boring.
But Damon was a devil.
He seemed to guess Diana's thoughts and deliberately turned it into a contest.
Would she turn around first, or would he give in first?
Life was dull without occasional amusements.
One hour passed.
Then two.
Damon and Diana remained locked in their own contest, but Lilah was nearly exhausted beyond endurance.
"Enough!"
Diana finally could not bear it and turned around with a shout.
The moment her voice fell, Damon seemed to reach his own point of satisfaction as well.
"I win."
Damon laughed triumphantly.
"Childish."
Diana answered coldly.
Damon shrugged, rose at a leisurely pace, and went to the bathroom.
Only Diana, furious, and Lilah, caught in the middle, remained staring at one another.
A while later, Damon came out after washing, humming a tune neither of them recognized.
He glanced at Lilah, who had fallen asleep, then lay down beside her and looked at Diana.
"Want me to save you a spot?"
Diana said coldly, "I do not know why Mother thinks I am better off following you, but if enduring this is the price for a chance to become stronger, I would rather give it up."
"I will find Ares and defeat him, or be defeated by him."
Diana's expression was firm as she opened the door and left the room without hesitation.
"I am an obedient child. Always have been. Always will be. But I only obey myself."
Damon laughed softly to himself.
"So there is no need to pretend to be a good man. I only need to do what I want."
With another quiet laugh, Damon held Lilah and lay down.
As for Diana?
Let her go.
Night slowly fell.
In the silence, fire suddenly lit the distance, followed by faint explosions.
The noise woke Damon and Lilah. They rose.
In the dim room, the light flaring outside the window was clear, as if it were trying to illuminate the night itself.
"Where is Diana?"
Still half asleep, Lilah realized Diana was not in the room.
"Gone."
Damon answered casually and walked to the window.
One of Diana's abilities came from the blessing of Artemis, goddess of the hunt: enhanced senses. Sight, hearing, smell, taste, and touch were all greatly strengthened. Her vision could reach far into the distance, helping her lock onto targets and improve her accuracy. That was also part of why she could deflect bullets and energy beams.
So although the fire was far away, Damon could still see it. After stacking that vision several times, it was like looking through a high-powered telescope. Everything appeared almost directly in front of him.
In the flames, Damon saw Wonder Woman fighting an older man.
That man was Ares, the god of war.
"So this Wonder Woman really came for Ares."
Damon muttered and watched with interest.
Judging by her equipment, she looked similar to Diana. Her weapon was actually a silver lasso that matched the Lasso of Truth. Gold and silver? No one could say Wonder Woman did not have a theme.
But this one was not weak.
She looked far stronger than an ordinary Amazon. There were only a few people qualified to replace Diana as Wonder Woman.
So she was...
