Chapter 0:
Ultimatus
Several eons ago, there once was a lone, elderly scrawny unnamed Sage out on an endless journey since time immemorial. His trek gets him through other towns, rivers, valleys, meadows and all sorts of terrain. All he has on him is a hood rag that covers his body and half of his face. The Sage might have other belongings on him at one point. Though, one could say he has given those away to those in need throughout his travels. However, he has one in his possession he must not part with.
That prized possession is a white, metallic spear with a curved blade resembling a Naginata that goes by the name of Ultimatus. Underneath the blade portion contains 10 "jewels" embedded in a circular formation; each with a different color. Pale blue; gray; tan-brown; red; red-ish orange; hot magenta; bright yellow; aquamarine blue; neon green and white.
Along the Sage's aimless wandering, he comes across a small village that contains a couple of huts in the middle of a desert. There are many cracks along the ground. Around the perimeter of the village lies a river bed that connects to a lake crater with no water in it. The area does show some signs that it has lush vegetation in the past. Then a long drought occurs, making all the bushes and trees naked of any leaves on them and their barks look pitch black.
A small handful of villagers, who look to be around in their early 40s and have dirt-covered rag clothes on them, are out and about. They use every type of rusty farming equipment imaginable. Not only that, but the blistering heat that bears down, is strong enough to make a person keel over from dehydration or starvation.
Despite that, a few of the villagers attempt to plow the fields again while a couple of others still try to grow crops. But, like the trees and bushes around them, the land just isn't fertile enough and the leaves on those crops look wilted.
The Sage gives them merit for not giving up in such circumstances along with the possibility of bandits not attacking them because of how poor the villagers look. The Sage glances at his inanimate partner.
"Ultimatus," the Sage says in a soft, yet commanding tone.
He holds his inanimate partner high in the sky with the blade part pointing upward. A flash of white light shines near the top of the blade. The clouds in the sky compacts with one another and turns gray. Wind bellows through. Thunder rumbles and flashes within the clouds. A downpour follows soon after. The villagers stop what they're doing and look up. A couple more who were inside their homes, slightly open the doors and poke their head out. 2 of the villagers outside hold out their hands out at shoulder level and let the raindrops trickle it. Some of them may have never once experienced rain in their life up to this point. Due to the spectacle, they disregard the possibility of them catching colds after exposing themselves to the element.
The ground merges back together so that no cracks remain. Grass and many assortments of flowers sprout up from along the ground. Large amounts of water flow down the river bed and it quickly fills up that lake crater. Color restores on the previously dead crops; making those look newly ripe. Even leaves rapidly grow back on the surrounding trees and shrubbery. The barks that were on trees and shrubbery turned a fresh brown color. A short time later, the rain stops and the clouds part ways to reveal a clear, blue sky.
"Oh! Praise our heavens above!" exclaimed one of the villagers.
"How can we ever thank you, Great Sage?" exclaimed another villager.
More and more villagers surround the Sage expressing their compliments to their savior. The Sage puts his hand up to them with a smile. The Sage, in his old age feels his body catching up to him little by little. At any moment, his body will give way. So, he can't stick around for long and he continues onward.
Later, he comes to a clifftop that overlooks that same village. The villagers resume their farming duties; this time with more energy thanks to the Sage's 'gift.' He feels content and does not have any regrets. Behind him is a tree stump which he sits on then looks up at Ultimatus.
"It takes...more than strength...to wield a Conduct..." he says very slowly and weakly. A Conduct is what Ultimatus is. Those who wield Conducts are, as one can guess, Conductors.
The Sage slowly closes his eyes and lowers his hand. He releases his grip on Ultimatus as his hand falls to his side. Ultimatus falls forward. Right before it hits the ground, it glows a white color then splits into the 10 orbs; each with the colors previously mentioned. Those orbs float up in a spinning circle formation then each of those scatter in various directions.
