Chapter 3:
Life And Dead
We arrived at the gate of Salim Province. Dozens of refugees and cars were waiting to enter the city.
As the line slowly moved forward, we finally entered the city. I felt relieved and safe. Salim Province was completely different from my hometown. The buildings, houses, and infrastructure were huge and majestic.
I didn't see any poor people on the streets. The refugees were being treated properly by the nurses, while the people living there continued with their daily lives as if they had never even heard about the war.
It was strangely peaceful.
I couldn't understand how the people of Salim could still relax and live normally while a war was happening in the country.
“Clint, come here!” Dad called.
“I’m on my way!”
I walked toward the house where Dad was standing. When I got closer, I saw someone talking to him in front of the house.
“Hey, kiddo. I wanna tell you something.”
“What is it?”
“Starting today, we’re going to live here. And tomorrow, you’ll attend school here.”
I was shocked.
We had only left our city yesterday, and now we were already moving into a new house?
How did Dad even get this house?
“So this is your second child, Vein?” the man asked.
“Yes. And tomorrow, he’s going to attend your school, right?”
“Fine. But you have to pay me 5,000 weins.”
“Over my dead body. Besides, I just remembered that you owe me a favor.”
“Which favor?”
“The last night at that bar, when you—”
“SHUSH! STOP RIGHT THERE!”
Dad quickly covered the man's mouth.
“Fine! I’ll let your children attend for free.”
“That’s my bud right there.”
I stared at them.
I had absolutely no idea what happened at that bar.
And honestly, I wasn't sure I wanted to know.
“Clint, let me introduce you to your new principal, Principal Justin van Salim,” Dad said.
“Just call me Justin.”
“Nice to meet you, Principal Justin.”
“Nice to meet you too. You seem like a good kid, unlike your father. Do you want to be my son?”
He laughed.
I wasn't sure if he was joking.
“Okay, Clint. Go inside the house and pick whichever room hasn't been taken by your siblings.”
I entered the new house and found that my family had already chosen their rooms. The only room left was near the kitchen and close to the living room.
I decided to take it.
Using my magic, I moved my belongings into my new room and decorated it to look like my old room.
After finishing, I decided to go to sleep. I was exhausted after everything that had happened that day.
I locked my room and quickly went to my bed. I lay down and closed my eyes.
As I slowly fell asleep, I suddenly heard a girl's voice coming from somewhere in my room.
“I’m waiting , clint"
