Chapter 41:
Duel Narrative: Blessed Days of Cursed Knights
Victor watched as a brief moment stretched into an eternity, ecstatic that Enderan had acted the instant Elori’sha was caught. Anticipation as Enderan used his curse to empower himself, and leapt to strike her head off. Dread as Yoki was smacked away, stopping his attack, and sending him backwards. Then, before the short sword could hit the ground, a beam of heat hit the dragon queen, directly in the face.
The beam of fire caught the back wall and ceiling before going out as Enderan hit the floor.
Elori’sha’s head was gone, and only her cauterized throat remained. When he saw her shift in the vines, he ran forward and drove the dagger into her chest.
She shuddered before going still. The dagger emitted black wisps of smoke.
He took back the unharmed dragon egg and stepped away from the twice killed dragon queen.
Enderan sat up and willed Yoki back to him.
“Are you okay?” Victor asked.
“I am.” He got up with Victor’s help and they watched as the vines dissipated and her body fell to the floor.
Suddenly the roars from the garden lost their battle edge and became mournful.
Revian was on the ground, but lifted his head as the dragons were almost howling into the sky.
“Let’s get out of here.” Victor paused as he noticed tears flowed down Enderan’s face. His expression was the same, and he seemed surprised to feel the tears there. He nodded in agreement and they hurried back into the palace.
-
They found themselves in the palace’s large kitchen.
Victor got a fire started and was able to light a couple lamps they found. He warmed his legs by the fireplace, as he wrote in Babel.
Why the hell did the dragon queen’s body resurrect?!
Sorry, but I can’t tell you that… yet~
What do you mean yet?!
I’m only kidding!!~ XD
See, how do you like it?~
Victor suppressed a groan upon seeing the ‘XD’.
I bet Enderan is very grateful for this, now cough up what you were about to say!
End your sentences with periods or I’ll ignore you~ >:(
Yeah yeah.
Victor watched as a wall of text bled onto the page.
The world was created to be as faithful to the original story as possible. There is a near infinite number of things that populate the world that will never be discovered by you. But any additions still remain lore friendly and won’t ever affect the basic plot and timeline without your direct influence~
Luckily you have written fate and destiny as a story mechanic so you won’t have any butterfly effects unless you kill certain characters. You know, like Baylor~
Okay, but this still doesn’t make any sense! You are obviously putting obstacles here to prevent me from getting too strong!
Alright Mr. Writer, trivia time. In Days of Knights, what did Enderan see after killing the undead Dragon Tyrant?~
Victor thought about it.
“Oh, right.”
After defeating Drakan’thar, Enderan saw the uncorrupted Dragon Tyrant reunite with the Dragon Queen. But that could have read as an illusion in Enderan’s head!
Well, because you wanted a cheesy send off for the mass murderer, the world was created with a plausible reason to why Enderan would see them both. Originally, Enderan and his party didn’t go to the garden until after they killed the undead Dragon Tyrant, thus freeing the spirits of Drakan’thar and Elori’sha~
However, you decided to head straight to the garden, so laying dormant in the nursery was the slumbering spirit of Elori’sha. Enderan’s presence and the egg being retrieved from the pond must have stirred the spirit within the dead dragon mama!~ :O
I see. I remember why I named you Babel.
Because of all the knowledge I possess?~ :D
Because of your babbling! ;)
Die~
Victor smirked to himself for the minor victory against Babel but went back to being upset. He was almost killed because of a one off detail he didn’t even like in hindsight.
The more he thought about it, the more plausible Elori’sha’s spirit remaining here was. Victor hadn’t thought out the mechanics behind curses and the nightmare realm until later on in the story’s publication. But now that he fleshed out the mechanics of curses, the dragon queen’s spirit residing here could be acting as the beacon that beckons for the dragon children.
It would also explain why Enderan talked about being oddly comfortable here.
Victor had to think of other one off details that might cause problems. As much as he wanted to complain about the possible downsides of this world mechanic, it might and probably has provided some unseen benefits.
