Chapter 8:
The director of the magic school is the new student, Susie Liam
In the tense atmosphere, the terrace fell silent as if a spell had been cast. Then, someone let out a chuckle. This was followed by a faint giggle. Laughter spread from one person to the next.
"Hey, hey, I thought you were kidding me..."
"Is this just another typical novel about a magic school? Hilarious."
"I used to like it when I was a kid, though."
The survivalist principal continued without hesitation.
"Your parents and ancestors were also wizards. This world is one where you can't do anything if you can't use magic. I don't think you knew that. But it makes sense now, doesn't it? Haven't you ever wondered why ordinary people have so little and can't do anything?"
We all looked down at once.
That hit the nail on the head.
I remembered Bob the waiter. He dropped out of high school to earn his own living so he could travel around the world. But we've already traveled around the world many times using our parents' and ancestors' money.
My family seemed to be just playing around, yet they were so prosperous, and I thought life was a breeze. My family relationships were good, everything I did seemed to go well, and I could only attribute it to divine intervention.
The principal quickly raised one hand, holding up a large, transparent crystal ball.
The ball is spinning rapidly.
A wry smile escaped his lips. They were all privileged, brilliant young people. To them, it must have seemed like magic.
"What's that...? Could it be a crystal? Like the kind witches and fortune tellers carry."
"That's lame."
"Is this some kind of occult thing?"
Splash.
There was an explosion. The plane we were on crashed into the sea and was blown to smithereens. One plane. Then another. As the crystal ball rotated, all the planes shattered into dust.
"Whoa!"
"Heeeee..."
(...The principal blew it up...? And then he made everyone here sit back down in their chairs as if nothing had happened? With magic? What is that crystal ball...?)
Witnessing the survival skills of the headmaster right before our eyes, this time, none of us said a word. We were barely able to breathe.
It seems to be true. I don't want to accept it. But in this situation, I have no choice but to believe it. And on top of that... our parents are wizards too? Everyone was bewildered, questioning themselves.
Seeing us pale and silent, he nodded with satisfaction. He put the crystal ball back into his chest pocket.
"Now, learn magic!"
