Chapter 37:
The director of the magic school is the new student, Susie Liam
As autumn approached, the Survival Principal appeared in the chairman's office.
"Good job getting rid of the white magic in the library. Next up is the Halloween costume party."
"So you're going to do Halloween..."
A principal who is so overly enthusiastic is dangerous.
"Of course, this is a magic school. You attended the meeting for school events, didn't you? I can't have you telling me you've forgotten."
"Once I've finished searching for white magic in the library, won't my job be done?"
"No, no. You still have your turn. In fact, the real show is just beginning."
Survival puffed on his cigar and said nonchalantly.
"That night, I want you to find the freshman with the strongest magical power. The night of the festival is when magical powers are most noticeable."
"What do you plan to do with the magic you find?"
"We need to extract that magic from them."
...? What does that mean?
"The magical power of newly awakened students is very strong. We store it in the palace basement. Wizards around the world use it to replenish their magical energy."
"...Replenish your magic power...?"
"They'll lose consciousness after their magic is drained, but they're young, so they'll probably recover in about a month. Find them, there are about 10 of the elite."
Bang!
I slammed both hands down on the chairman's desk and glared at the principal with a piercing gaze.
"That's enough! One thing after another... I absolutely cannot do that!"
Where did my former obedient and defenseless self go? I'm surprised at myself.
"Hmm...it seems you've gotten a little stronger. It's nice to see students grow."
Survival nodded, narrowed his eyes slightly, and began to speak quietly.
"Listen, Susie. Black magic is more powerful than white magic. Without strong magic, we privileged classes cannot maintain our power and wealth. White magic is not enough."
"What are you talking about?"
"Times have changed. I, too, was once a white magician. But I had no choice but to embrace the more powerful black magic to maintain my privileged status. It's not as simple as saying black is bad."
"That's..."
Susie bit her lip. After Principal Survival left, I stared blankly out the window.
Does that mean white magic isn't powerful enough...? Am I just being talked into something?
