The Pointy-Eared Problem

“Step back from Meilyn you mortal beast!” Tannie yelled out.

“Why should I?” the young man said.

“It’s your fault for acting like she is an object and dragging her like that!” Tannie hissed while standing protectively in front of me.

“Tannie what happened?” I wondered.

Where am I again? A hall? People? Why are they lying on the tables?

My mind went completely blank. Did something happen? The last thing I remember was them fighting for which team I should join. Right, that was what happened and then… I can’t seem to remember…

“You forgot again huh?” Tannie answered.

“Seems like it. Sorry did I mess up again?”

“It’s alright Meilyn you didn’t do anything wrong” he replied.

“What do you mean she almost kil-”

“...Shut that mouth of yours! All of you, if any of you ever dare to drag this girl like an object or try to hurt her I will tear you all apart until you beg for forgiveness” Tannie hissed.

What happened for Tannie to be so furious. And who is that young men standing in front of us?

He had hair that was…

“Tannie, what color is that?”

I pointed towards the young man who gritted his teeth.

“You mean that pointy ears?”

“Yeah that pointy ears guy”

“Who are you calling poin-”

“...That’s silver Meilyn and his eyes are golden. But that’s not important. Let's just leave this place. It's not helping us at all to stay here with these mortals that can’t even withstand your power!”

“What no!” Luthian yelled out and hurried towards my side.

“You can’t leave, it's the first time we have a demon, we need your abilities for our missions! For the sake of the people, no no you have to stay! I need to complete my dream team with you!” Luthian continued.

“Look at that mischievous beast trying to get that opportunity again!” another one of them screamed out.

Why the first demon? Does that mean Raiden was never here to begin with. But where is he then? Why is he not here? I clenched my fist tightly.

“Meilyn? ” Tannie asked while putting his paws on my hand.

“Should we leave Tannie?”

“No, don't go!” Luthian clinged to me.

“Let go of Meilyn already!” Tannie bit his hand.

“Look at that mischievous beast, trying to take her while we are incapacitated! Men get up and catch her!” One of the other so-called squad leaders screamed. 

Now they all surrounded me like bugs.

I hate bugs.

“Stay away you bugs!” I yelled.

“...”

“Bugs?”

“Did she call us bugs?”

“Why should I join you when you all act like bugs! Crawling on all fours and surrounding me it’s suffocating!” I screamed out.

“No please listen, we need you!”

“I said I don’t wanna!”

“Please!”

“No!”

“Oh great demon Meilyn-”

“...I am not great! I am just a halfie! A halfie! You don’t need me!”

“Yeah we don’t need her!” pointy ears said.

What did you say, you peasant! For some reason this guy with pointy ears has been pissing me off for quite a while, acting so nobly like he is the greatest in this kingdom. 

I got up and stood head faced towards him clenching his shirt.

“Who are you to interrupt me pointy ears!”

“And who are you to call me pointy ears, demon?”

“Huh?! Who are you to talk that shit?”

“Why should I tell you who I am! You are just a demon, why would we need someone like that in our association! Go back to where you came from!”

“And If I don’t want to then what?”

“I will force you out if I have to!”

“That’s enough Ishan, hands off!” Luthian interrupted us. I let go of his shirt. All though I would have loved to just choke him with it.

Seriously, when was the last time I got so riled up?

“I want her to join us, why are you stirring up a fight!” He said while looking at pointy ears.

Us? Does that mean pointy ears is in his squad? Fine if it’s like this…

I looked towards Tannie and he seemingly thought the same thing I did. We grinned at each other.

“Actually yeah I will just join Luthian’s squad!”

“Really?!” Luthian’s eyes brimmed with excitement.

“What?! Hell no leave demon! We don’t need you in our squad!" Pointy ears seemed angered. Right, that's a great sight – so much for calling me demon and belittling me!

“Someone seems scared, oh no don’t fear pointy ears I won’t eat you up, demons don’t enjoy human flesh!”

“I am a nymph, not a human, and don’t expect anyone to welcome you in our squad, no one likes demons!” He replied furiously.

“Don’t worry whether you like me or not doesn’t concern me!”

Why would I even care about your opinion? The only reason I came here was to find Raiden, not to make any friends or indulge in prestige. That’s what I came for. I only need to find my twin and going on missions will help me find out where he is. Why he wasn’t registered here as a demon, maybe he hid his identity but no matter what it was I will find him.

“Don’t listen to this boy Meilyn, I am glad you joined my squad you won’t regret it! Should I introduce you to the others, actually I was just in the process of creating a team and you are my fifth to join in, we only need two more and it will be complete!”

“I see?”

“She should at least compete just like everyone else does, Squad leader!” Pointy ears interrupted us. Again.

“Why should she? She is special. If I don’t take her now, the others will! I will just take her in!”

“Will that be alright?” I asked.

“Of course Meilyn. They should be honored that we even joined them. Seriously this great Thaniel is a being they wouldn’t even encounter in 10000 years!” Tannie said proudly.

“What nonsense is that lizard spouting!” Pointy ears, I mean that guy Luthian called Ishan said.

“Who are you calling a Lizard! Only Meilyn is allowed to insult me you bastard!” Tannie yelled.

“You heard that, that honor is only mine!” I repeated.

“Great, not only one but two freaks are joining us! I will just go ahead, I don’t want to involve myself any longer with this mess!” That guy called Ishan said.

“Seriously, do I have to work with him?” I mumbled.

“Sorry Meilyn! Normally he is a good boy. He just doesn’t like demons but I am sure once he gets to know you he will be the first to stay beside you” Luthian said.

“Not like I need that Luthian! I just don’t like people like him who judge others by their appearance! We won’t get along! I know that for sure but well whatever. Shouldn’t I register?”

“Ah right register! I already forgot, let’s go already before they catch you away from me!” Luthian panicked and lifted me up.

“I can run on my own let me down!”

Not again! 

The students and other squad leaders stood frozen. Only then one of the other squad leaders snapped back.

“Hey! Let her down, we still can persuade her! Catch Luthian already!”

“Let’s make a run for it Meilyn, Tannie!”

“Who allowed you to call me Tannie!”

Luthian ran through the endless long hallway while his fierce pursuers set out to catch him.

Can I change my decision? I wanna leave!

Meilyn Taira’s nervous system needed three days to recover from the embarrassment she felt that day.
