Chapter 1:
Pierced through my heart
There are moments in life where I wonder how everything went wrong. As I looked my lover in the eyes and he started telling me the truth, my whole world shattered.
We were standing on the side of the cliff, the very place we had met for the first time. The place where we will lose each other now.
Tell me Belus, was it really worth, to fall in love? Just for it to end this way.
I raised my sword that was painted in poison.
The Tien clan was well advised in the poison method. My clan had spent centuries learning how to poison our own swords, a poison so lethal that even a vampire couldn’t stand it. So that we would be able to take them down with just a single strike.
“Tell me, all this time were you just pretending to be a human? Why did you hide the fact that you belonged to the Heiran clan knowing very well that your family killed mine? I trusted you. I loved you.”
My voice crumbled at the thought of everything being a lie. I felt my chest tighten and my eyes burning from the tears that I desperately tried to keep in.
However Belus was just standing there.
Calm and collected he stared me in the eyes.
The breeze and the salty scent of the sea filled the hollow silence of this place.
“Say something, don’t just look at me like that!” I yelled out.
His gaze was piercing, it was giving me shivers.
How are you the same person from before?
There is no light in your eyes anymore.
They are dull.
Where is the man I loved?
Why are you looking at me as if I am the one at fault?
Can’t you see how much it pains me?
“I see, none of that love exists for you anymore!”
But there was still no reaction. I gulped and tried to collect my words.
“If I had known how much of a sorrowful person you are, I would have just ignored you that day! Why did I have to find out after all these years that you are my mortal enemy?!”
“I didn’t know either…”
He answered, his voice strained and his eyes finally showing some emotions. He furrowed his eyebrows as if he was just as displeased with this situation.
“What am I supposed to do now, Belus! You know it better than me don’t you! We can’t escape what was bestowed on us, I have to kill you!” I cried out.
“Ashira, if only I could have changed anything, I would have done whatever I could, so I wouldn’t have to do this now.”
“No, there is nothing left for us to change. You can’t change the lives that were stolen, I-” My voice crumbled. The cold of the air made my lips numb.
No, not yet Ashira. Concentrate. You have to be strong. You can’t fall apart now, it’s not the time.
“You are crying.”
With his words I snapped back to reality.
“I am not. Why would I?”
“Ashira, I know you better than anyone else. I always know when you hide your emotions from me.“
“Says the one who lied to me all this time, how funny isn’t it? You tricked me.”
“I didn’t know that you also were a vampire. What we had was real but I am sorry Ashira. I still love you but there is no way for me to stop this now.”
His words made me tremble. I was heaving for air, it was more painful than I wanted it to be.
Why can’t you stop talking now Belus! Please, just stop acting like you care!
I tried so hard to prepare myself for this day. I really did… but the moment you talk about us, it’s as if none of this is real.
“I know, raise your blade.”
I glared at him. I tightened the grip on my sword, feeling the cold metal digging into my palm.
The Heiran clan had a family heirloom. Some say it was a craft specialized to kill vampires with just one scratch. The blade would burn in the skin of the one it injured. It was a slow death that was awaiting the one it cut. That’s the same way my parents had to die.
With that exact blade…
It was a rainy day when my parents were killed. I was spending my time researching on how to increase the toxicity of the poison. I was in our underground laboratory during that time. A place well hidden in the mansion.
So I didn’t even realize what happened until it was already too late.
They slipped inside while everyone else was sleeping and dragged all of them outside. They dragged them into the forest that was right behind our mansion.
When I was just about to go to sleep I realized they were missing. I ran out, only to meet my mother’s eyes while she was tied to a tree. Her eyes begging me to hide.
I did.
That was a command.
And I was bound to obey by blood.
I couldn’t resist the order.
So I watched them stab my parents. Not once, not twice.
A hundred times.
Thud.
Thud.
Thud.
They laughed at them.
Thud.
Thud.
My parents stopped screaming.
Thud.
Thud.
Thud.
And then, silence.
No one realized that I watched, I was far too good at hiding my presence.
I should have done something but my body didn’t move.
So I just watched.
The blood splattered on the ground and dripped their soulless bodies dry.
The ground was painted in the crimson red, as if it was meant to be used for a painting.
As I put their bodies down, their warmth already left.
Their scent dissolved in the air.
I buried them with my own hands and made an oath.
That day everything changed. I took over as the head of the family. Commanded the people in the clan and made sure that we got better at increasing the toxicity of the poison.
That was the day I swore, I would kill every single one of them. The Heiran clan was my biggest enemy. I cut my hand and made a pact, so my loyalty would never wither…
Because of this pact, I can’t ignore you now.
Even if I intended to resist, my body would still obey the command.
Kill them all. Don’t stop.
“There is no way for me to change anything. I have to kill you. Belus raise your blade already! You have to fight me!”
“I am sorry Ashira.”
“I am sorry too.”
I raised my sword once more.
He raised his blade.
In this suffocating silence the only thing that was echoing through was the waves of the sea.
We stared at each other for a while.
Then we dashed forward.
Even if this love won’t last forever they say right?
This was the end.
