Chapter 2:

Before the Color Left His Eyes

Pierced through my heart

Five years ago.

This really is the best sight in the world, I thought as I was standing on the edge of a cliff.

From here you could see the vast endless sea.

The refreshing scent of the salt could be smelled even from this distance. It was a place I found a few years ago.

Whenever my mind gets clouded because of all the responsibilities I had to take care of, I took my time at night and came to this secluded cliff. It seemed like no one else except me knows this place.

“Truly beautiful.”

“I agree with you, milady.”

Or so I thought.

As I turned around I found myself next to a young man. He had blond and wavy hair, pale skin and light-blue colored eyes. The color resembles the ocean right in front of me.

“How long are you planning to stare at me?” he chuckled.

Was I staring at him? I must have been lost in thoughts.

“Excuse me, I was just thinking about something. How come you found this place? It’s rather unusual for anyone to be around here.”

Especially since it’s almost time for the sun to set. Normally people would be at home or in the city. Not at a secluded seaside area in a lifeless place like this.

“Really? I like unusual places like this. Isn’t it beautiful to have the whole ocean to ourselves? You can see only a small part of something so vast, there are so many unknown creatures. Doesn’t it make you curious?” He asked as he softly gazed in my direction.

“Yeah, I also think so.”

“So milady, what about you? Why are you here in this remote place?”

“Why should I tell you, dear stranger? We probably won’t meet each other again anyway” I replied.

I think I finally get what people mean with handsome faces being dangerous. Just him smiling already seems dangerous. Why are you looking so loving at a stranger you just met?

“How sad, I wanted to get closer to you milady!”

“You want to do what?” I yelled out feeling the warmth rush to my cheeks.

“A-also could you stop calling me milady, it makes me uncomfortable.” I tried to derail the conversation.

“Well, would you be so kind to tell me your name then?”

As I took a few glances to my side, I could see a smile forming on his lips. At that sight I crumbled.

“It’s A-ashira.”

“Nice to meet you Ashira, I am Belus.”

“So… why are you talking to me? I am not really that interesting of a person and certainly you didn’t come here to hit on me.”

“I did have some intentions though dearest Ashira, my heart couldn’t contain the joy of seeing a beauty stand all on her own.”

“You!” My voice shrieked.

At that sight he started laughing out loud. His ears slowly turning red and tears almost streaming down his face. His hand was placed on his stomach as he laughed.

“Sorry, I” He continued to laugh.

“I never expected such a reaction from you!”

“So, you were just joking?”

“Well, I did tell you the truth in one aspect.” His laugh faded into a soft smile. Then he looked at me.

“I saw you standing here all alone and for some reason I just wanted to stand by your side. You know, sometimes we need to talk with people, especially when life gets hard.”

He suddenly calmed down. His gaze slightly calmer than before, he stared towards the waves crashing against the rocks below. The color in his eyes faded leaving them dull and almost soulless.

“So… Belus, would you like to talk some more?” I mustered the courage to ask.

Actually I feel like this might not be a bad idea. To talk to a stranger. How long has it been since I have talked to someone outside the clan?

“It would be my pleasure.”
