Chapter 6:

A Kingdom of Blood and Bones

The Child that was never meant to be Born

As the patriarch of the Batory family, I could not allow my eldest daughter to be buried in the very place where she had been killed.

After our confrontation with her killer, we left immediately.

Having departed from the Kingdom of Risorgo with my family, we returned to hiding.

A month has passed since our departure, and we have heard nothing of the king’s fate.

That is, until rumours began to spread, revealing the terrible end of his kingdom.

The Kingdom of Risorgo had fallen.

Everyone, including the king, had perished at the hands of an unknown entity.

Everyone nearby even warned that the place was too dangerous to approach. It was said to be overflowing with corpses, its streets stained with blood.

A kingdom of bones and blood.

Nobody knew what had happened, nor why those who ventured into its ruins would disappear without a trace.

Nobody, except us.

We knew the truth.

It was the work of my grandchild. And when its father killed it before it could be born, he sealed the fate of everyone in that kingdom.

Now, all we can do is wait.

Wait for someone capable of defeating my grandchild to appear.

We do not know how long that will take. Perhaps someone will emerge tomorrow. Perhaps no one will come until we are all dead.

There is nothing more we can do.

It was my mistake.

That child was never meant to be born.
