Chapter 16:

You Are What?

The Outcast of the Mage's Association

“Thank you for everything, my dear friends!” I cried out and waved the sweet goblins goodbye.

Morning already arrived and after eating the breakfast the goblins prepared for us it was time to say goodbye.

“Bye, bye!” Silca added.

“Umpah, Umpah!” They cheered.

The sounds could be heard for a long time until we ultimately lost sight of the Umpah town.

“I already miss them!” I sighed.

“Me too!” Silca said as he hugged me tightly.

“Kids, I know it’s hard but remember our initial destination?” Tannie said.

But should I tell you all a secret? Even Tannie was sad about us departing. He even tapped the goblins on their feet as a goodbye.

“Right, but actually I never asked. Where are we even supposed to go?”

“Meilyn, didn't you pay any attention during the briefing?”

“Well about that…”

I can’t tell Tannie that I was wondering about how to get Pointy ears to spill his secrets. I mean I don’t really want to use force but if he acts like that he only will risk getting sick. And getting sick isn’t good. Also I want to see that smile! It’s unfair, what do you mean he can smile like that but all I am getting is the stare of death!

“... hey Meilyn, are you listening? Meilyn!” Tannie yelled.

“Hm, did you say something?”

“I was just telling you, that we had to find the dandelion field, were you not paying attention again?”

“What, no way! I just wondered what dandelions looked like!”

I was so focused on Pointy ears I completely forgot to listen to Tannie!

“They are really pretty Sis!” Silca said, his eyes glimmering with excitement.

“Really? How pretty?” I asked.

“Absolutely mesmerizing!” he smiled.

Now that’s what I wanted to see!

I patted him on his head.

“Now I am excited to see those dandelions, also about-”

“...they are usually yellow, but during this time of the year they already must have dried out.” Tannie explained.

“Huh? Flowers can dry out?” I genuinely wondered.

“Yeah sis! But don’t worry, they transform into white fluffy seed heads! I actually like them more that way, you can blow on them and then they fly away!” Silca clenched his fists and stared at me.

“What type of magic is that?!”

“The magic of nature, Meilyn!” Tannie replied.

“By the way sis, can I ask you something?” Silca mumbled shyly.

Wait a minute, why do I feel like there is a shift in the air, could it be? Is Silca finally opening up to me?

“Sure, what do you want to know?”

“Remember how you asked me in the carriage, if I ran away from home?”

“I do.”

“I ran away because of my sister…”

He tugged on my clothes. I silently watched over him to see if he wanted to continue. However he went silent.

Then I looked at Tannie.

He blinked at me and moved his head up and then toward Silca.

So you mean keep the conversation going?

“What type of person is your sister?” I asked.

Tannie and I both looked toward Silca. He bit his lip then he slowly breathed in and out.

“My sister… is kind. I think she is too kind and that’s the problem!” His voice faltered.

“So her kindness is the reason why you feel so frustrated?” I pressed on.

“Yeah, you see Mei. She never complains, even if she is treated badly. She just accepts it. When I told her that she should complain and do what she wants to do in life she just said but it’s my responsibility. I am sure mother and father would disagree if she just spoke up, but she doesn’t.” His voice wavered every single word.

I reached out my hand and locked my fingers with Silca. He looked surprised for a second, till it turned into a slight smile.

“So you thought if you ran away from home she would finally talk about her problems and realize that she can’t keep quiet all the time, right?” I asked.

“That’s right Mei! But I have to tell you something. I didn’t tell anyone and your Squad leader is probably the only one who knows…”

His lips started trembling.

“It’s alright, it doesn’t matter what it is!” I said.

Then I looked at Tannie who tried to climb on Silca so he could comfort him. So I knelt down, still holding on to Silca and raised Tannie up with my free hand.

“Little Silca, Meilyn and I are both here for you!” Tannie added.

“Hm, thank you for saying that!” He swallowed and wiped away his tears then he smiled.

“Actually I am not from your world!”

Eh?

Not from our world…

Another world…

But that didn’t even happen in Galego and the misfit class?! How is that possible!

“You are a traveller?” Tannie asked.

“Yes.” Silca smiled.

“Wait, I don’t get anything right now! Explain it to me too!”

“A traveller is someone who uses a portal to come into this world. However those portals are rare and they only get activated once, so someone who passes can't return…” Tannie explained.

“But then what about Silca, if that’s the case…” I gulped in nervousness.

“Don’t worry sis!” Silca tightened his grip on my hand.

“In rare cases there are powers that are able to activate a portal and lead you to the exact place you came from. They call that summoning to the place your soul belongs to and I know exactly what to do.”

“I see, thank goodness!”

My legs gave out and I crumbled on the floor.

“Sis?” Silca worried.

I heaved for air.

This could have been bad. Really bad. If Silca couldn’t return home, his sister and family would never be able to see him again. That would have been a disaster.

“I am fine. No, actually I am glad. You have to talk this out with your sister and no more running away from home!” I grinned at him.

“Yeah, I will do it just like you sister! I will proudly say what I think.”

“Great!”

I stood up again.

“But say why are there people after you, if you aren’t from this world?” I wondered.

“Oh, they followed me.”

“What?! Why did they follow you?” I yelled.

Tannie also looked curious.

“Say Silca, that wasn’t all you wanted to tell us, right?” Tannie asked.

What? What do you mean that wasn’t all?

“Actually, I am a prince…”

…

Ah I see a prince, that makes sense, wait…

“You are what?!”
