Chapter 4:

Chapter 1 (Part 4) "The Uneasy Alliance" [Volume/Mission 1]

The Agents of The Cold War: The Trouble in Europe

Part 4

While sitting at the back of the car and after some time driving, we’ve finally reached the Berlin Wall. As usual, it’s heavily guarded—with the east side being heavily guarded by East German officers and some Soviet soldiers, while the west side is heavily guarded by West German officers. The place was entirely covered in death strips, landmines, watch towers, and tripwires. There were also dogs involved with their job being guard and attack dogs with them being close to their owners.

…Eventually we stopped as we reached the crossing gate of the Berlin wall, as the barrier blocked the path… It makes sense since this was the only way to get to West Berlin from the East.

An East German officer seeing us just nodded and went inside the guard house then lifted the barrier from within so that we could pass through. With the way now open, we continued on our way… And with that, we finally entered West Berlin.

…Finally, I made it and escaped that hell hole…

Feeling relieved, I laid myself onto the soft seat cushion with an exhausted expression on my face along with a smile.

“You really do smell Agent Six.”

The agent on the passenger seat breathed as he covered his nose with an enduring expression on his face.

…The other driving the car also said his word—

“Yeah, you really do smell Agent Six.”

“Hey! What does that supposed to mean?!”

I angrily spoke out my complaint to these two agents in front as they were spouting some absurd and outrageous things out of their mouths just now.

…And it was also not my fault to fight off Furious Wolf in an alley having a pile of trash on each side. I also covered my suit in a freshly clean trash bag, as well as my gun so that it wont stink horribly. So, it wasn't my fault at all!

Damn it… I really should sue my agency for such things.

“Sigh… It can't be helped,” I sighed under my breath.

“Hey, you two, at least respect your senior field agent.”

“Wait a minute. Don’t call yourself a senior for being the top agent in the agency. You have only worked for the agency since the beginning of last year. Even though I respect your work, at least be serious for once.”

Hearing my words, the agent in the passenger seat said those words. Soon the other driving called out—

“Even though I’m a fan of your work, Agent Six. I have to agree that you should at least be a little serious for once.”

These little—

I gritted my teeth after hearing their responses.

…I’ll make sure they regret saying those words…

But, then again. Why did they just let me go? After all, I’m one of their top enemies as the top agent of the CIA. So it's impossible for them to just let me go so easily… Unless there’s something big going on. I remember the high-ranking Soviet officer telling me that my agency will explain what's going on and the sudden unexpected events happening just now.

…I also want to know about those men in black and grey lounge suits, especially about the delivery on the IMP 1 that was an improvised version of the MP 40 a few moments ago. Because it was for sure not from the KGB and not from the CIA as well.

As I was in deep thought about it. I decided to ask…

“Do you two know what’s going on? After all, wouldn't it make sense for me to be already taken away by the KGB by now and some horrible things to me. And how did you two manage to enter East Berlin in the first place?”

With my question, the agent driving the car clicked his tongue then explained—

“...Well, you see, we also don't know. We were only ordered to pick you up from the East and drive you back here to the West, as someone from headquarters wants to see you and is currently waiting in the agency’s base here in West Berlin. And look we're almost there,” he said as he took a right turn.

Wait a minute. Someone from headquarters wants to see me. That must be Ed, I’m sure he’s here to explain the unexpected situations happening here.

I’m sure it’s going to be fine.

As I said that within my mind, we eventually arrived at the CIA base here in West Berlin.

Of course, there was no parking outside as the usual parking is within the building. With that, we entered the indoor parking.

As we drove through the indoor parking, there were a lot of parked cars in sight along the way with agents talking to each other with some having a freshly brewed hot coffee in hand, there were also some cars leaving the indoor parking.

It’s interesting to see other kinds of cars like trucks and such, as they were also painted in various different kinds of colors owned by CIA agents. After all, the agency's policy and duty is to blend in, which makes sense with us being secret agents for the States.

With that in mind, we eventually found a space and eventually parked there. As we did, we eventually got out and went inside the building.

Currently walking through the halls following the two agents. I decided to ask for confirmation about someone from headquarters who wants to see me…

“Hey, um, do you know the person from headquarters who wants to see me?”

I closed in and asked one of them that question in a low voice that he could only hear.

Hearing my question, he responded as he looked back over to my way with an apologetic expression on his face—

“I’m sorry Agent Six. But no, I don’t know who it was.”

“Oh, is that so… Thank you.”

As I thanked him, I looked around the place. As I did, I saw… lots of agents covering their noses!

…Why? Just why? It’s not even my fault…

After seeing the other agents' reactions as I passed by, I just kept quiet and continued walking…

After some time silently walking, we eventually arrived at the interrogation room.

“Good luck, Agent Six.”

One of the agents said as he pointed toward the door signalling me to go inside. With it, it seems the person from headquarters is waiting for me inside.

In response to the agent's words, I responded with a nod to say my thanks as I grabbed the door handle.

…Alright. Here we go…

I breathed in as I reassured myself, then finally opened the door.

As I did…

"Hey there, Sugar. Long time no see.”

Yep. I’ve already seen enough.

The person who greeted me just now is my group leader, Ellie. She has fine bright yellow hair with sharp blue eyes, along with her usual blue suit and black tie, as well as wearing her usual brown cowboy hat.

She was currently sitting on a metal chair as she rested her arms to the cold metal table and having her hands together near her chest while terrifyingly smiling toward me.

…She was the very last person who I wanted to see…

“Surprised to see me Sugar?”

“Yes, absolutely.”

Without hesitation, I answered her question without a care for the world with a desperate look on my face. Hearing my answer, she still kept her smile and replied with her usual southern tone—

“Good to know. Much obliged that answer Sugar. Could you kindly sit with me, I’m gonna tell y’all the explanation you need Sugar.”

After saying those words, she pointed over to the metal chair opposite of her signaling me to take a seat. With no other options, I decided to follow her instructions and took a seat over the cold metal chair.

Now sitting opposite of her I decided to ask her my question and told her about my troubles…

“Hey, what the hell are those unexpected things that happened just now? I was somehow not taken into custody by the Soviet on which I’m grateful for, but why didn't they take me? And who were those men in black and grey lounge suits, especially about the delivery of those new weapons the IMP 1 going on there? I also met Furious Wolf—the number one agent of the KGB along the way too.”

“Woah, woah, hold your horses Sugar. I know you really want that explanation. But please, just calm down.”

With her words, I calmed down and let her explain the situation. Seeing me calm down, she cleared her throat and started the explanation…

“You see, we received information or intelligence that there is a situation going on in Europe, which is connected to the situation you just described to me—with the men in black and grey, who’s delivering some kind of new weapon as you called it IMP 1. Of course, this intelligence also affected the KGB that safely led you here. That information informed us the growth of something from the ashes of the old war. We call it, ‘The Nazi Remnants’ or ‘The Remnants’ I call it.”

“Wait—What?!”

I was shocked by that explanation and hearing the context of it. After all, the allies made sure no group or remnants from the old war from the Nazi’s could survive, especially within the allied controlled Europe.

Seeing my shocked reaction, she continued—

“That’s right, Sugar. It seems Europe is once more in trouble. If we let this be we will be in trouble, including the East. That’s why the CIA and the KGB will have a temporary alliance until The Remnants are eliminated.”

Wait, what did she say? A temporary alliance with the Soviet KGB. Has the world gone crazy?

“No way! I’ll have myself killed than working with a KGB!”

“Please, Sugar. Reckon about it. Work with the KGB for now until The Nazi Remnants gets eliminated. This is just a temporary alliance, so once it's done, it will return back to the way it used to be.”

“Absolutely not! There’s no way I could work together with the KGB! Call off the alliance and let me do it. I can handle it on my own. I don't need a bitching commie as a partner!”

I stood up as I smacked the table hard along with saying those words in frustration out of my mouth.

There's absolutely no chance I can work with a KGB agent. To be honest, I can handle it myself if I have to!

Hearing my frustration, she sighed and in a calm voice—

“I understand, Sugar. But this is a danger beyond our capabilities. We need this temporary alliance with the East. Even if we do it alone, it still won't be enough. Lives are in danger here with The Remnants growing, especially lives in the East. Please understand Sugar, I'm begging you."

I-I-I just, ca-can’t-t… ughh…

With her words, I couldn't think straight. I also remember the lives that are suffering in the east. I just couldn't let them suffer more…

Especially the father and daughter that I helped some time ago, and also the other people I helped along the way…

With nothing else to say…

“Fine. You win. I’ll work with a KGB agent.”

“I knew you could understand, Sugar. But before I reveal who your partner on the East is. Let’s have a quick chat about your stay in East Berlin.”
