Chapter 7:
Shruniverse: Small Stories, Giant Girls
The bright rays from the morning sun shines upon Lyrielle’s blanketed body, illuminating her fair skin. Naturally understanding the time, she yawns as she stretches in bed; her blonde hair sits on top of her head, frizzy and messy.
Getting up to look at the mirror on her dresser, Lyrielle’s glaring imperfections became more apparent to her–but that did not matter.
She gives herself a soft smile, the best she could manage with the limited energy she had so early in the day.
“Good morning everyone. I think I may need your help keeping me awake throughout the day, I feel utterly exhausted…”
Lyrielle pauses, anticipating a response, but she was met with silence. The only other feedback she received was her own reflection awkwardly staring at her.
“That’s strange, not even my telepathy seems to be working–I can’t hear them at all. They never miss our morning greetings…”
With a heavy sigh, Lyrielle pushes forward and resumes her morning preparations one after another:
Washing the hardly noticeable dried drool from her face…
Brushing her teeth, ensuring that any traces of crumbs from her late-night sweet binge-eating is eliminated…
Combing through her hair thoroughly, so that it can be tied in her signature style…
Stripping herself down to her undergarments to pave the way for her trademark red robe…
In the end, she returns to the same mirror and takes one last look at her handiwork.
Although she looks presentable to anyone with eyesight–much more than presentable to anyone with taste–her little smile of accomplishment fades away at the sight of her reddish cheeks. Instinctively, Lyrielle grazes her cheeks with her soft fingertips.
“Just as I figured, my body feels unusually warm. I feel functional at the moment fortunately, but I fear that something bad is happening within my body. I really wanted Kaden and the twins to investigate it for me…maybe they need more rest too. Yes, I’ll be considerate of them and not be a bother.”
With that resolve, she nods and heads out to the outside world.

A few hours later…
Within the confinements of a spacious backyard training ground, Lyrielle stands a safe distance away from her apprentice with her arms folded. Mindful not to move carelessly, she traces every movement of Eden with her eyes.
Such intense pressure is bound to make even the most confident of students somewhat nervous, but no such indication was apparent through Eden; in fact, she seemed to show off the more intense she could feel her master’s judging gaze.
“How about that, Miss Lyrielle? Impressed?”
“Eden, your confidence is adorable, but you’re not managing your mana properly…”
Please respond!
“You are doing much better, but please be mindful of your posture when you cast…”
Kaden, Rukara, Zerk, I beg of you, please!
“Almost…try again.”
My head is throbbing, my body is hot…
“Perfect. Now do it thirty-nine more times…”
I’m losing my voice, it’s taking all of the strength within me to speak out normally.
“Don’t get weary, stay focused…”
I cannot keep this facade going on much longer, so please tell me…
“Let’s take a brief break. You’ve done very well, Eden…”
What’s going on inside my body?!
And on and on Lyrielle’s mind went. She may have been physically present alongside her apprentice, but her mind was far gone, unable to focus on anything that was happening outside of her body.
“Okay Miss Lyrielle, I’m ready for today’s final assignment…I think.”
“Eden…let’s cancel the rest of today’s lesson. You can go home and enjoy the rest of your day.”
“Was I really that awful?!”
“No, it’s…it’s n-not…t-that…”
“Miss Lyrielle, are you running out of breath?...! Your face is getting redder! You must be sick!”
“I just…need to r-rest. Please do the same…on your…own.”
Where are you guys?!
