Chapter 1:
Mind Backup
It was a bright sunny morning, I could hear birds singing and cars driving by outside as I sat in bed looking at this near-empty apartment that I couldn't remember seeing before. I didn't know how I got here and was soon noticing that I didn't know who I was either. It felt like these were the first minutes of my life, like I was born here moments ago. Even though not having any memories of the past, it looked like I still had some common sense. I knew how to talk and read, and also knew what birds and cars were, so my memories weren't completely gone.
I stood up examining the room looking for clues that could help me remember something. Other than the front door there was still another one, I expected it to be from the bathroom. When I peeked inside I immediately jumped back. I saw someone standing there, my reaction was so fast I couldn't examine their appearance. Gaining some courage I decided to have another look inside.
"HaHaHaHa"
So this is how I look like.
When I realized I laughed at my own foolishness. Actually there was no one inside, It was only my reflection on the mirror.
I looked like a teenager but couldn't figure out the exact age. I had silver colored hair and blue eyes. By the school uniform I weared I figured I was a high school student. Other than the mirror nothing inside there would help me with anything.
Leaving the bathroom I began to hear a loud noise. An alarm clock that I didn't see earlier was ringing on the side of the bed. That must mean it was time for me to go to school. There was only one problem.
Where is the school?
While wondering at where the school could be, knocks came from the front door.
A sweet perfume ran through my nose and sunlight blinded me when I opened It. When I regained my sight a beautiful girl was waiting in front of me.
''Good morning Yoshi-kun!"
As she spoke I kept staring at her pinkish hair, green eyes and her bright smile.
"Uh...Hi."
So my name is Yoshi?
"Are you feeling OK? You're acting kinda strange."
I felt super nervous not knowing how I should act.
Shit, I messed up.
Getting even more nervous at each word that she spoke, I felt like I was going to get found out.
"Uh...There is nothing wrong with me, I just couldn't sleep well last night."
Nice, that was a good answer.
She stayed silent for a moment leaning forward in front of me, getting her face very close to mine. Her eyes looked like they were piercing through every lie that I spat out.
"Jeez! You know I always say you should be more careful with your health."
"Okay Yoshi-kun, let's go or we will be late for the test."
What did you just say!?!?! A test?!?!
The first thing that I have to take after losing my memory is a test?!
"What happened? Don't tell me you haven't studied for it?"
"Sorry."
"What?! Don't you care about your future?"
"I do, but I'm not very good at studying alone."
That lie must do the job
"Why didn't you tell me earlier? I could've helped you."
"Sorry."
"Jeez...Alright, I'm going to try to give you a rough summary about it on our way, so pay attention."
She started to look like a teacher and was full of confidence to help me.
She looks like a nice person
The way to the school wasn't very far but for me it felt quite lengthy by having to pay attention to my new "private teacher". Despite that, it was pretty fun.
She was beaming with joy, hopping around and dancing while walking with me.
I doubt I can do any good on this test, but that doesn't matter right now, what I need to do is find out more about who I was.
When we reached the school, our time was almost running out, but somehow we managed it to arrive in time. We got through the entrance, the only problem was trying to find my name on the shoe locker.
Oh... She called me Yoshi-Kun didn't she? I need to look for that name.
While I kept wandering around the shoe lockers, she was glaring at me and I started to get anxious.
Here it is!
I finally found a shoe locker that resembled the name she used for me, but it wasn't exactly the same.
Seno Yoshiro
I guess Yoshi is my nickname.
So my name is Seno Yoshiro? I'm finally starting to make some progress.
The girl was starting to get inpatient.
"Why are you taking so long?"
"Sorry, I was thinking about the test."
"Then let's run to class, or we are going to be late."
"OK"
As I didn't know the way to the classroom, I followed her as we sped through the corridors. During the way I noticed a lot of people avoiding my sight or staring at me.
Who am I for them to act like this?
We finally reached the classroom. From the name of the class that was A2 I could guess I was a second year high school student.
When we entered we felt relieved of the teacher not being there yet.
Everyone was looking at me like the ones from the corridor.
"Good morning everyone".
I decided to greet everyone to try and break the ice.
Everyone got surprised and started whispering to themselves .
"Why is everyone acting so strange?"
I asked the girl
"It is you that is acting strange."
What? Why?
"Good morning, please take your seats."
Our conversation finished when the teacher entered class.
Now...Where is my seat?
I wondered and soon after the girl sat down I noticed there was only one seat left by her side.
I guess that is mine.
"You sure are lucky, the test is going to get canceled for today because of some mistakes with the questions."
"It is going to be postponed to the same day next week."
Ahg...Thank god!
After the teacher's statement, everyone in class began to cheer and sigh in relief.
I suppose I wasn't the only one who didn't study.
The girl that I came with was pouting at me.
"What?"
"All that lecture that I gave you was for nothing."
"Don't be like that, I'm glad you tried to help me."
"We can always arrange some time to study together at my place if you have the time."
She started blushing as her eyes gleamed.
"Really?!"
"Yeah, we can think it later after class if you want."
"OK"
The class began and all the time she kept smiling while touching her index fingers together.
Lunch break came and I got surprised when the girl handed me a lunchbox.
"What? It's your lunch, like I do for you every day."
What!? She makes these every day for me?.
I'm starting to like her.
"Can you meet me at the rooftop after class?"
She mumbled.
The rooftop?
"Sure, but why?"
"I wanna tell you something."
She sounded nervous and quickly went out of class before I could say anything.
I guess I won't bother her, lets see what she wants to say later.
The lunch break was almost ending and a lot of students were coming back to class. Some of which were coming straight in my direction. I was super nervous and didn't know how I should act around them.
The group heading in my way consisted of three people, a confident looking guy wearing a smile so bright it could blind you, a tall guy wearing glasses emanating superiority and a shy girl that was hiding behind his back.
What a bunch of weirdos.
"Yo, what has gotten into you today Yoshiro-kun?"
Asked the first guy as the other one stayed by his side minding his own business while the girl peeked at me from his back.
What should I do to gain some information from him without telling the truth?
"Uuhh? What do you mean? I'm just acting like myself."
"Yourself? Hahaha! Are you serious? If you were acting like yourself, we wouldn't even be having this conversation."
"My name is Ishimaru Tadashi by the way."
"We have been classmates since elementary school but we never spoke before, I think you never spoke with anyone in school other than Okuma-san."
So her name is Okuma and I'm aparently a weird silent guy that doesn't have any friends?
"Really? Then I changed without noticing it."
"Nice to Meet you Ishimaru-kun."
Ishimaru's looked surprised, but not as surprised as in the beggining o class, the tall guy with glasses couldn't avoid to have a look at me after what I said and the girl felt less nourvous as she got out from behind his back. It seemed they all looked interested in the "new me".
"Aren't you forgetting something?"
Said the tall guy in glasses.
"Sorry, I forgot to introduce my friends."
"This four-eyed giant is Machida Eichi and the shy girl over there is Suzuki Yuki."
"They are my two closest friends."
"I hope we can get along well."
They don't seem like weirdos after all.
"Nice to meet you!"
The two of them didn't seem very talkative, so they just nodded and stayed quiet.
"Oh, I almost forgot, tomorrow after class we will be going to the karaoke, so we thought about inviting you. Do you wanna go? You can invite Okuma-san too if you want."
I think this would be a great oportunity to make some friends that can help me along the way.
"Sure, I would be glad to!"
"Then it's settled!"
Ishimaru's eyes gleamed with joy as he dreamed about tomorrow!
"I don't think I will be able to sleep tonight."
I take back what I said about them not being weirdos.
The lunch break ended and everyone got back to their seats.
The girl that now I knew was called Okuma hasn't come back.
Is she going to skip class?
School was fun and time flew so quick it was already in the end of class.
I should get going.
"Bye Everyone, see you tomorrow."
After saying that to my new fellow friends I got out and went to the rooftop.
On my way to the stairs I noticed the same looks that everyone gave me all throughout the school.
"What are you looking at? Is there something wrong with my face?!"
They got spooked and went away.
"HaHaHaHa..."
Their reaction was so funny.
Reaching the rooftop door I stopped for a moment, took a long breath and then opened it. She was there mumbling something to herself.
She didn't notice me yet.
"Okay, calm down Yumi. We are close friends. I will just say how I feel about him. It will be easy..."
Feelings? What does she want to say to me....wait...Is she going to confess her love?!
After realizing what would happen my heart began to pound within each of my breaths.
"Hey."
"Ah"
She shrieked
It looked like she wasn't expecting me to show up so soon.
"Hhhheeeyy...Yoshi-kun"
"So, what did you want to tell me?"
"Hm..."
Here it comes.
"There is something that I've been wanting to tell you for a long time."
"I...llooovee you Yoshi-kun!"
"And I want to go out with you."
I waited a little while trying to think about my response.
"Will you accept it?"
She looked less nervous than before after putting her thoughts out.
Now I should give her a proper answer.
I don't even know who she is yet, I will regret doing this but that is what I will do.
"I'm Sorry."
Tears began to form in her eyes.
I knew this was going to happen.
I should tell her what happened with me, about the amnesia, or else she is going to get devastated.
"I'm not the same person you loved."
She stopped for a moment trying to understand what I said.
"What?"
She sobbed.
Before I could give her an explanation, something started vibrating in my pocket. When I picked it up, I discovered it was a cellphone.
I guess it is mine. But why did it vibrate?
When I tried turning the screen on I faced a password locked screen.
Great, what is my password? She may know it.
"Do you happen to know my phone password?"
She looked confused
"Yeah...It is 123456."
Really?
But why does she know my password?
I wrote down and it worked.
What a dumb password.
"Thanks."
After unlocking it I saw an icon pop up saying that I had a new message. Clicking it revealed a message from a Anonymous sender.
How strange.
"What is it?"
The girl was curious of what I was looking at.
When I read the message, shivers ran through my spine.
I KNOW WHAT HAPPENED, SENO YOSHIRO.
