Softly Fallen

She had given me everything, and made me a happy man.  Now It was my turn to return the favor, to make sure her last request reaches fruition.  Only then will she finally rest, and be free of her worldly desires.

“Go search for the beauty in the world for me, this hospital bed is all I've seen my whole life.  Let me experience the world through your eyes.  I want to see it all, flowers, mountains, and horizons.  Is it alright If I burden you with such a task?”   She called out to me, with her graceful voice.  

She brought up her hands to caress my face.  I received her hands, and promptly placed my own over them.  I held up her hands gently in mine and I nodded.  I was ready to make her wish come true.

Softly she made a timid smile and passed away, the last of her life slipping free from its holder. Sunlight bathed over her face, wafting in through the windows.

I shed no tears, to bless the sacred time that we had shared together.
