Chapter 13:

The Flashlight

The War of the Gods

I was walking through Dallow ally, minding my own business when the incident happened. You see, I was carrying my trusty flashlight, and EVERYONe wants a pierce of my trusty flashlight. It has two modes, off and on, and who wouldn’t want a flashlight that did that. I always loved my flashlight, and everyone else did as well.

As I walked down the ally, I heard a strange ruffling in one of the trash cans beside me. The grey hid was rattling back and forth, back and forth. It was almost like a metronome. I approached it casually, not worried as long as I had my flashlight. When it turned my flashlight on, Its beam of pure light cut the darkness of evil in half with a single beam of light. Nothing could stop its power, its tremendousness, its glory.

The lid stopped rattling when I reached the mysterious grey trash can. Looking around, no one was in sight. The brick road was completely void of any travelers. Sure that was usually for this hour, but it still unnerved me. I was used to the hustle and bustle of the city, people stopping me on the street to admire my flashlight. One time, a rich billionaire had personally flown a boing 747 to my house, just to offer his entire fortune for my flashlight. I was delighted of course. I wasn’t an idiot. All the money on this green earth wouldn’t be able to compare to my flashlight.

I opened the trash can and looked inside, only to see nothing. Not an empty trash can, but literally nothing. It was a black void, stretching on for all of space and time, or so it seemed. When I shined the light of my brilliant, perfect, tremendous flashlight into the trash can, however, it started to suck me in. gravity seemed to reverse course, only caring about the trash can. If gravity ever reversed, I always just assumed it would be because of my flashlight. This, however, was unprecedented. Was the trash can not respect my flashlight?

I’d learn, ALL THE TRASH CANS WOULD LEARN! Or so I thought as the trash can sucked me into its endless abyss of darkness.

I fell, and fell, and fell. There was no end to the falling or the darkness. The light from my flashlight was perfect, tremendous, huuuuuuge. Despite that, the light didn’t show an end to the darkness, in any direction. That could only mean one thing, there wasn’t one. The possibility of my light not reaching the end was zero percent. It was the perfect light, huge light, tremendous light. There simply has to be no bottom.

Or so I thought until I suddenly hit said bottom. I was surrounded by a grassy field, stretching on forever in every direction. The grass felt soft and nice, like a fluffy cusion. The light of a bright blue sky fell onto me. Sure, the light couldn’t compare to the light of my flashlight. Still, though, it felt nice after the chill of my old world, compared to wherever I was now.

“Welcome hero.” I turned to see a brilliant shining woman sitting on a throne of light. “As the one who wields my holy flashlight, I have chosen you to be summoned to another world.”

“Oh, goddess!” I immediately bowed to her. The light coming off her was familiar, it was divine. It was the same light as the light that came off my flashlight. One look and I could tell she was the creator of my holy relic, the flashlight I so fervently worshipped.

“The kingdom of Doriah is being attacked by a vicious demon lord, oh brave here, the one called Light. I pray fervently that you heed my call. Protect the citizens of Doriah, with the flashlight of my power.”

“Of course, my goddess, though I do have a quick question.”

“Ask away.”

“I always was a big fan of Japanese light novels, and I feel like this is rather familiar. Im I just crazy my goddess, or is their something to it?”

“Of course, my chosen here. Those stories are bassed of times long ago where I would send y chosen heroes to other worlds, and then when they came back, I gave them my blessing to write out their stories in the form of fiction for you Japanese people to consume and venerate their accomplishments. Now then, onto your skills.”

“As you probably know, especially if you’ve read Japanese light novels, the world I am going to send you to has what I like to call video game stats. Magical numbers will determine things like your strength, speed, agility, magical power, etc. On top of that, you will also have several skills that you can learn. However, there are certain skills that are only granted when you are born by either dumb luck or genetics. What I am willing to do for you, dear hero allows you to choose any of those skills that you want, to defeat the great and terrible demon lord.” She smiled proudly as she spoke, staring down at me. Her holy aura was almost impossible to stand in. I only managed to do so because of the wonder-full light of my flashlight, and the fact that I was used to the holy light’s effects. However, if she wanted to kill me with the light, I had no doubt she could. Not only that, I would accept it with pure pleasure. That’s how I wanted to die. To die in the beautiful holy light. It would be a pleasure above the physical to have my flesh burned by the light, my soul dissolved by the light. I would be happy, so happy to die in that way.

“With all due respect my goddess, I have your flashlight, I don’t deserve to obtain any other gifts from you. Just the hoy light of your flashlight is enough to sustain me for the rest of my life, and I know its light can carry me through any hardship or fight, and that with the flashlight, I can defeat the demon king and save your world.” I got on my knees and bowed soo deeply that my forehead touched the floor. Just being in the presence of the source of the light was putting me in a state of pure pleasure. There was nothing better in life than this, because of this, I was truly happy.

She frowned, looking absolutely shocked, but stying to hide it at the same time. “Are you sure my hero. While I agree that my flashlight is a symbol of great power, I do not know if it will be enough to defeat the demon lord.”

“I am sure my goddess.”

“Veryy well.” She wavered her hand in the air. “I wish you luck my hero. My the world of the light treat you well, Light.

Light up here from her hand, shooting out all over the world. I could feel the light envelop me the Glorious wonderful tremendous light. The light I dedicated my life to. It was all here. Enveloping me. taking me to where ever decided to. I have faith in the goddess oh, and would do whatever she asked. defeating the Demon Lord wasn't nothing. If anything it was a favor to her. Compared to her, no compared to the light I was nothing. There was only the light. The light was all.

suddenly, I was surrounded by rows upon rows of trees. There green leaves shifted in the gentle Summer Breeze that envelop the world. it was around mid-afternoon, with the sun shining and a bright clear sky. I couldn't see a cloud upon the sky. I was standing on a well-worn dirt path, not a person insight.

My mind first went to my flashlight. I didn't know where it was. I looked all over turning frantic. If my flashlight was not here then I had nothing, I had failed everyone including myself. luckily, I found my flashlight on the ground next to me. It was buried in the dirt making me Furious, had the dirt try to steal my flashlight? if that was the case, then I needed to be truly careful. I understood the grounds intentions if I was a planet, then I would want my flashlight as well. the planet did not deserve my flashlight however only I deserved my flashlight.

I thought to myself. usually, something would always happen to the protagonist, driving them to their main companion as soon as they arrived in the New World. I started to walk off on the path, no direction in mine. I had the flashlight, in the flashlight had me. as long as we were together, then I knew that everything would turn out fine.

Suddenly, I heard a voice coming from behind me, screaming for help. WHen I looked, I gasped in horror at the horific sight. There was a merchant’ cart being attacked by a group of dark, evil bandits. tHey had surrounded the cart as a merchant and two girls around my age huggled in the center. The merchant had a fireball in his hard, witch he was holding warringly in fear.

‘Just give up and give all three of you to us. I promise that I will trat you will.”The main their said in a sneering voice.

“No big mennie. You’re a mean meanie!!!!!” She then did something completely unexpected, and started to chant a spell.

Suddenly, the world as it was known came to an end. Fires started to blaze from her kneecaps, as four black horses came out of her ears. They were terrifying, with demonic aura’s surrounding them, making me cover for a split second, but not for long. I had my flashlight, my trusty great incredible tremendous flashlight. With my flashlight, nothing could change to hurt me. I was protected, secure, safe. The light of my flashlight was divine, and the horse’s probability wanted my flashlight.

The horses bathed in the fire from her kneecaps, then ran aloft in the four cardinal directions. Their fire started to spread as it caught fuel in the world around me. Anything in the suns light burned, as it should. It was used to a fake light and inferior light. Being exposed to any other light than my flashlights as my main source of light would drive any mortal thing to suicide, and imortals wouldnt be much better.

In a sense, my task was completed now, the demon lord was defeated, I felt happy, pleased with myself. As the world ended, and the life of my body got sucked into her kneecaps, I was happy, happy as the light from my flashlight bathed my body in pure bliss.
