Chapter 9:

Just In Time

White Parasite

Just as the two binding spells from the brothers collided in a firework of white magic, flashes of red and blue came over the right fence while a small band of policemen in protective vests came through the gap in the left one.

The tortoise took this opportunity to knock itself into the seagull so that the bird would land in a policeman's arms. Meanwhile, all the other combatants scattered.

"Sir," "Irina" stood up and approached the uniformed man with a pointing finger fixed on the seagull, "this seagull is a murderer. You need to apprehend the magician called "Natalia", then send them to us."

The policeman didn't respond, because he was sweating too heavily in his silence.

"What are you doing, officer?" she barked in her authoritative tone, startling the man. "I am Itsuki Hatano of Step Up squadron zero. If I tell you to do something, you do it, or else you will become a public disgrace in multiple dimensions and with multiple governments."

With a tightened grip on the seagull's neck, the man turned and left. A loud squawk could be heard when he closed the door to his vehicle.

Hazuki, who had stayed behind to fix up the rundown house using various spells, reverted the state of the broken fence before rejoining the group.

"You're no better than them! Just because the police have authority doesn't mean you can leave magical matters with them! What happens if this Natalia goes on a rampage?!" he suddenly burst out, not realising he was angry about the situation until the words left his mouth.

The grim look Itsuki shot back at him told him it was out of her jurisdiction.
----
In a dead-end alleyway, a Hispanic woman in a sequinned sea blue dress was cornered by multiple policemen due to Itsuki's orders. This, according to the interrogation of the seagull - the woman's (former) twin sister, Paula - was Natalia.

"My, my. It seems I finally got caught out, senhoras," she crooned, teasingly pulling at the collar of her dress and twirling her dark brown hair around her fingers to make the men visibly weak at the knees, "but playtime's not over yet!"

She delicately rubbed off some of her red lipstick and in the same motion, she swept the same hand at the men. The blood red stains on her fingers turned into iridescent bubbles that floated towards them.

Before anything else could happen, Christie and Luna (in small fox form) descended on a broomstick and, when the magician spun the broom a few times, popped all the bubbles without getting dizzy.

"Get out, senhorita! I don't need any other magicians meddling in my battle, compreendo?!" the woman yelled as she launched a high heeled foot at Christie.
