Chapter 1:

Room

White

White. White was the single thing I could see.
A white room with a bright light coming from the ceiling. I think I just woke up because my vision was a bit blurry. I was wearing a black tracksuit, the number 1 was written on my wrist. The room was medium size. With an area of about 20 meters. It was neither hot nor cold. It didn't have any furniture. Just the mattress I woke upon.
After a minute my vision returned to normal. And suddenly I see a figure in the other corner of the room. I get up from the mattress, my back was hurting a bit. I make my way slowly to the figure. It was a girl, she had long brown hair, blue eyes, and a slim body. She wasn't short, but she looked shorter than me. Because she was wearing a white tracksuit, she was invisible if you were a bit farther away. She also had a number on her wrist. The number 2.
It looked like she hadn't woken up yet. I didn't understand anything, but I wasn't scared either. I had only the memory of waking up in that room. I waited for a couple of minutes for her to wake up but after some time I got bored, so I tried to wake her up myself.
"Hey!" I said while moving her a bit.
After a couple of seconds, she started moving.
"Huh?" She said while looking around.
She blinked a couple of times and then like struck by lightning she got away from me.
"Who are you? What do you want from me?" She asked with a bit of fear in her eyes.
"I wish I could answer you that question. " I replied with a monotone voice.
"You don't know your own name?" She said with a confused expression.
It was indeed strange that I don't remember my name.
"You do sound very confident, you know yours by any chance ?" I asked.
"Of course I do, it's... now that you ask me I don't really remember." She replied.
"It is rather amusing that you hurried to judge my incapability of remembering my name, you being in the same situation as me." I said.
"But do you at least know where we are?" She continued.
"Sadly no, and if you asked me that question it's only natural to assume you don't know either."I replied.
"Maybe we should look around the room." She said.
"I think we don't have anything better to do, so looking around the room will not only be a way to get rid of boredom but it will also help us to get out of this circumstance "
"Why do you feel the need to make a sentence that long?" She asked.
"I find it rather entertaining." I replied.
"How can't you remember your name but you can create unnecessary long sentences.."
"It's probably another mystery of the universe that will most likely remain unsolved for the rest of time."
"Talking with you is tiring."She said.
I didn't have a long enough reply, so we started looking around the room, but there was nothing there, only white walls, and the mattresses we woke upon. After a couple of minutes, we lost hope.
"Hey, let's take a break, there is nothing here that will help us. I said.
"I guess you are right." She replied with a very sad tone.
We sat down on a mattress. There was total silence. From time to time we would look at each other but break eye contact immediately.
After a couple of minutes, she probably couldn't support the awkwardness anymore, so, she said:
"Hey, do you think we should give each other names?
" Why would you want me to give you a name, I could give you an offending name without you even knowing." I declared.
"I guess I have to trust you." She replied.
"Trusting someone you just met is wrong from every point." I asked
"We will come up with something, I'll start." She said, ignoring me.
She looked a bit at me and then said:
"I think I would call you Kaito."
I wait a couple of seconds and say:
"I think it's okay." I reply while still doubting my answer.
"It's your turn now." She said.
"Maybe... Akane? " I say with an uncertain tone.
"Fine by me. " She said without even thinking.
"You accepted that way too easily." I say with a serious tone.

After we did that, another minute of awkward silence passed. When I was ready to say something a huge red countdown appears on the wall. It was counting down 10 minutes.
"What the hell is that?" She said with a slightly scared tone.
"As you can see, that is a countdown, it means that something of interest will happen soon. I reply.
" I know it's a countdown! You're so annoying." She said with an irritated tone.
"I know, I was sarcastic." I say with a very serious tone.
All we could do was wait for that countdown to reach zero.
