Server failure report

Symptoms

Mainframe went dark at 10:28 on 26/4. The network displayed no other symptoms. Secondary frame came online immediately after and took over all responsibilities without incident. No data was lost during the incident. Server came back online at 04:42 on 27/4. Impact on research minimal.

Cause

Outside hacker planting multiple leak viruses to use as entry points for future attacks. Cambridge Analytica and Facebook were identified as perpetrators. Attack was unprovoked and likely, a result of a staff member neglecting policy and using company work internet for their personal needs.

Actions taken

A hard restart was initiated at 10:30. No changes to the situation occurred. Followed up with a bug sweep with no bugs detected. Repeated bug sweep and included all data flowing through the system from outside sources. No errors were detected. Initiated a full network virus sweep with no results. Initiated homebrew advanced virus-hunting program (AVHP). Multiple threats were identified. All threats were quarantined and investigated further. All threats were from one outside source and were designed as a preliminary attack to grant entrance to future assaults. The origin of the threat was traced to Cambridge Analytica and Facebook’s survey program. A retaliatory strike plan has been filed and the legal team have been notified. Appropriate legal action will be undertaken by the legal team. An internal inquiry will need to be created so that such attacks cannot hurt project servers again. All staff must be reminded to not use personal accounts with project servers and work WiFi. This is probably motivated by the fact that the leisure WiFi is extremely slow. It is recommended that the leisure WiFi be upgraded as soon as possible to eliminate future threats to company security of this nature.
