Chapter 7:

Communication

Bastion

Liam-31 hazily woke up to the bright sunlight beaming on his face. Groaning as he picked himself up from the ground, he immediately remembered the events that had happened the night before.

"How long had I been unconscious for?" Liam-31 asked ANTI

"You were unconscious for seven hours." ANTI said, as Liam-31 checked his wound that the creature had inflicted on him.

Touching the area where the blade had breached and cracked his armor, the foam had been successful in minimizing the amount of blood loss from the attack, as the remnants crystallized and acted as a barrier for any other attacks.

Stabilizing himself, Liam-31 began to supply himself with whatever the people in the camp had left. Grabbing a bag that would be able to hold the various medical supplies, he fit in whatever he could as he then began to supply himself with ammo that was scattered on the table.

Grabbing as many magazines that could fit into his armor's various sleeves, he also grabbed grenades and smoke bombs that would be useful against the creatures.

Placing the bag on his back, he exited the house, as he began to search the other houses for any means of communication with others on Earth. Knowing that it was highly unlikely, as surviving in Earth at its current state was dangerous enough for Bastion Units alone, a camp of humans was almost impossible.

Remembering that the man who had died holding Liam-31's arm was the leader of the camp, he entered the house once more, as he scavenged the bottom floor for communication devices.

Entering the top floor, he saw the dead body of the man. Liam-31 stopped for a moment, his breath grew heavy as he stared at the dead man. With honor, he put his hand on his chest, looking at the man he recognized the valiant bravery he took with him to his grave. Liam-31 looked at the ground slightly, noticing the dark red blood trails from the man's body, before snapping back to his senses, realizing that he still needed to call for help.

Entering one of the rooms in the top floor, he found a small table that contained a military communication device, which had a small red dot that flickered on and off with each second that passed.

Pressing one of the buttons on the device, it let out a small beep, before Liam-31 began to speak.

"This is Liam-31 of Delta squad. If there are any civilian camps in the area, please mark your location." Liam-31 spoke into the device, as he let go of the button, waiting for a response back.

After a minute had passed, Liam-31 decided to use the device again.

"This is Liam-31 of Delta squad. If there are any civilian camps in the area, please mark your location." He repeated, waiting two more minutes for a response.

After two minutes had passed, he figured that this was the only camp in the area he was in, and proceeded to leave the room to progress towards his mission, when right before he was about to exit the room, the device began to beep continuously.

Heading back towards the device, he pressed one of the buttons, as incoming audio began to transmit.

"This is Frederick Johnson. Me and several other civilians have setup a camp a few miles North of your area. I'm transmitting our location to you now." The device beeped as the audio ended, as the screen on the device began to highlight the area where the man had marked his location, with a map of the area Liam-31 was in.

With the knowledge that civilians were able to survive on Earth gave hope to Liam-31 as he placed the small screen containing the map into his bag as he left the house, facing North towards the location of the camp.

Before starting his journey, he turned back towards the houses, thinking of the civilians who lived in the camp before being attacked by the creature. Mourning their deaths, Liam-31 finally turned around, walking towards the location of the camp, as his mission continued forward.
