Chapter 0:
Can you be a Harem story Protagonist without a Harem...?
Harem is a genre of light novels, manga, anime, he##ai, and video games originating in Japan (...) and focused on polygynous or polyandrous relationships, where a protagonist is surrounded by three or more (...) love interests or sexual partners. Harem works are frequently comedies that rely on self-insertion protagonists allowing the audience to project themselves unto (...).
At least this is what the most popular internet encyclopedia tells.
Put simply, it should mean being surrounded by numerous beautiful women.
But turns out it’s not always the case, or something.
My name is Rick and I’ve been a harem story protagonist for three months, yet there haven’t been any girls interested in me whatsoever.
About four months ago I found this novel called “My fantasy harem”. One day when I came back from school I saw my older brother reading it on a couch.
“What are you doing? Give it back.” I was kind of embarrassed that he found out I’ve been reading something like this.
“Wait, I’ll just finish this chapter…” he said while having that stupid grin on his face.
But when he flipped the page, the next one was completely blank, and so were the others. After that we both woke up here, in a world which we quickly found to be the one from the novel we both have been reading.
Now, after three months spent there, he has his own harem and lives in a two times bigger mansion than mine. I live in one we used to live together in before he moved out. I live here with one maid, and it’s not like she wanted to stay here, she stayed because one maid is a bare minimum for a mansion on this level, so since other maids have quit as quickly as they knew my brother will move out, she had no possibility to leave this place.
To be clear, my relations with brother are alright. He moved out because he has his own needs and goals, and I’m not mad at him, maybe… just a little jealous.
I mean… just look at the genres of this novel. It clearly says harem right? And since we should both be protagonists, then why am I not getting any girls at all? Maybe it’s a matter of who held a book in his hands when we got sucked up here?
Anyways I need to do something about it quickly, or I’m gonna spend my time here living this lame ass life…
“Master, here is your tea.”
“Leave it on the table by the door.”
“Were you talking to someone, master?”
“No, not really.”
