Chapter 2:

Apparitions and Aspirations

"Wuste waits for no man"- Discovering Utopia

What is Space? What is Matter? Why do they both have measure? There is always a myth, a legend, folklore or tale, where one must go from here to there, back again, or never. My father once gave this place a name. As there are probably many names to go with it. Some call it earth, some say a little slice of heaven. But I enjoyed how he phrased it, the home away from home; the 3rd place. So now, let us talk about this. This Utopia that once was and always has been, drifting endlessly throughout the back reaches of our minds in our dreams that connect our souls to the wanderers who wait in the midst of the unseen divide.

There is a stairway, and you find yourself walking up this stairway, there are windows to a starry sky, dark and cloudy with glimmers of light riddled through the distant waves of cloudy seas. You dare not to trip, or you will fall into a vast well that you cannot see the bottom of. As you peer upwards you find a way through, an exit perhaps? No this is merely a dream, and with dreams there are no exits unless you catch unto death and pass to the next reality, or you wake up and find yourself right where you had been what seems to feel like a lifetime ago, but yet hours or minutes only to pass by. Sothe walls drift and fade, and the stairs you had just been climbing turn into a road. This is not your first venture through this dream you soon come to realize, as your school house fogs its way into your field of vision. Why must I remember this school though? Your thoughts try to deceive you a bit as visions of your friends ghostly walk by passing as shadows against a cool breezy evening, lights flicker against the reflections of the deep paned windowed walls of the bricked school. There was simply no way to get inside, surely it was after dark; again your thoughts deceive you for a second time as your capacity to differentiate the dream from a reality grips your consciousness. I suppose it won't hurt to just take a look, besides I think there is someone in there who could allow me inside.

Just before you happen to grip the door the stairway that once was appears to try to brick itself around you again, so you rush past the doorway not to be taken in, but in doing so you fall down onto yourself and stumble a bit against a cold dampened carpet, looking up to see the essence of a wispy young lady standing in front of you shyly with her hand upon her shoulder, face hidden behind glossy silverish red hair, her skin with a hewn glow as she transparently cast light around herself as she had noticed being discovered. Who was this person? Why was she here.. Why in the school at night? As these thoughts race against your jumbled head, not knowing quite how to explain any of it she catches wind and fadingly runs away. Instinct kicks in, you sense something dangerous approaching behind you as darkness seeps around you yet again, this person who was hidden was the only light, aside from some red and blue dim lit castings and signs around you, black doors each with their own strange glows beneath them, you feel you must find her quickly now, or you may be beckoned to something that of a nightmare.

Scuffling through the hallway, you do catch up to her, but it was in the stairwell, she was hidden just beneath it kneeling, not sure what for.. So you ask if she is well, if there is anything you can do to help. She looks up to you and nods slowly, and you can finally see some form of mouthing though her lips were hardly seen against her palish tone; just as timid as the voice that sounded. Your only aspiration was to help this apparition, but how when you couldn't even hear her plea?

Now then, we reach a partition, would he help the ghost, or drift into a new story as the darkness that is the dreamscape of r.e.m. sleep takes him over so that he might forget these events ever occurred. To be honest, there are a few different routes I had taken on this journey into the dreamland, chasing after the lost girl. But there is a sad truth behind all of it. Because no matter how many times I appeared to return or back trace my steps into this school building, which i will be explaining later on, i found that it was I that was lost, ever roaming these corridors and hallways trying to seek out the girl who i found that night standing before me cast in such a beautiful array.

She would soon follow through, passing by and up the stairwell, opening a portal like cloudy yet fiery pillars swirling in against each other in vortex. The thought of this was difficult to put into words but I would do my best as an artist to capture and memorize as much detail of it as I could. I stepped through this pillar of light and fire, and thus the true adventures began. Memories flooded through me, capturing inside myself as if I were being read inside my soul, and I soon arrived on a balcony somewhere I am sure was beyond this realm. This was the first Instance when I discovered Utopia. She waited there as I passed through, and I smiled for the first time in a long time, but cried tears of joy and sorrow at the same time.. Because it was there that I had to say my first real goodbye, and I didnt even know it.

“I can't stay here, there is much work to be done, but I will find you again, I swear it.” I say as something with wings carries me off to a distant land that is cruel and unseamly, desolate and deserted, i am trapped by an enemy much larger than I should be able to face, a dragon of deep blood red, with fire brimming from its eyes, just as it wished to devour me I awaken in sweat fueled with sadness, and fear of what is to come next.
