Chapter 1:

Looking for a Club (1)

Invisible God

The bell rang for our last period and the day was over. The students have been encouraged to look for a club to join after school. Hearing this, I told Shuichi to come with me and look around today. Despite the fact that he's an idiot, he's a comfort to have here. Something like a friend.

I'm standing around by the vending machine that I told Shuichi to meet me beside, but he's still not here. Sure, I could go look around without him. It's not like I can't talk to people. I'm just not good around large groups of people that I don't know.

After five more minutes of waiting, I decide to just look for a club alone.

The first thing that catches my eye is the literature club. I'm actually rather fond of literature, even looking to write something of my own. Though my interests don't extend too far past light novels. Figured it was worth a shot.

Entering the literature club room, I don't see anything other than a table and two bookshelves. walking a bit further into the room, I realize that there's actually another bookshelf behind the one on the right. From the doorway it seems like a smaller room than it actually is. I walk around to see what was there.

It's a girl.

About average height with shoulder length, fluffy-looking black hair and glasses. She seems like the stereotypical book girl or mysterious girl that you would see in an anime. Staring at the open book in her hands, she seemed unaware of my presence.

"Yo"

She doesn't seem to hear me, either.

I poke her cheek. Doesn't move a muscle.

Must be a really interesting book. I bend down and look at the cover of it. The book she's reading is 'Wuthering Heights' by Emily Bronte.

Hmm, never heard of it. Maybe I should get more into books. Though that seems like a bit too much effort.

"So, how should I go about getting this girl's attention"

Maybe I should take her book.

I take her book.

She turns to look at me.

No, she's still looking at the book and reaches out to grab it.

"Can you not even tell I'm here?"

She grabs the book, but I step back to get away. Underestimating her grip on the book, I make a mistake and trip.

"Oh shit"

Before I knew it, I was on the floor with the glasses girl on top of me. I felt her chest push against my own.

It's a rather modest bust.

Wait, what the hell am I thinking in a time like this?

The girl gets up and finally responds to me.

"Sorry about that, I've seemed to put you in a rather anime-like position"

"Hey! Don't acknowledge it! What is this, some kind of parody!?"

She seems to be back in the position that she was in when I entered. Completely ignoring the fact that she was just on top of me on the floor. Wait, maybe that's normal. Maybe I'm the weird one for thinking that it's suppose to be a big deal.

I get up and dust myself off.

"So anyways, I was interested in joining the literature club. I'm guessing you're a member?"

Nothing. No response.

"Hey! Don't ignore me, you damn kuudere!"

What the hell? I feel like I'm playing a straight man here.

She remains staring at her book in silence.

Alright.

I walk around and look for a book. Osamu Dazai's 'No Longer Human', a book I recognize, is in sight. I come back around and get into a swinging position.

With a "Whap", l slam 'No Longer Human' into the back of her head, sending her flying into the bookshelf in front of us.

I can't help it, she made me do it.

Now with a shocked expression on her face, she looks up at me.

"Onii-chan!?"

"What"

I felt that instead of saying it in the form of a question, it was just a natural reaction for my mouth to say the word "what".

"Onii-chan!"

"O-? Onii...Chan?"

"Sorry, I didn't think about what to say further than that"

I throw my book at her.

"Aa-"

"Cute"

"Hm?"

Did I say that out loud?

"No, I just read you mind"

I stare intensely into the space in front of me. What's going on?

She gets up. Now my gaze is directly on her.

"I was joking, I can't actually read you mind"

Her glasses were sitting loosely on her face. She really is cute.

"Pervert"

"Huh?"

She goes around and sits at the table.

"I actually can read your mind"

"You can!?"

"Wow, your gullible"

"I'm not usually like this. It's only when an extreme boke is around"

"Boke?"

"You know, like, funny man"

"I'm not asking what it means, I'm asking how am I a boke"

"You called me onii-chan"

"I wasn't talking to you, I was talking to onii-chan"

I look around the room to see if there was anyone that I wasn't aware of, and like I thought, there was no one.

I stare cynically at her.

She looks up at me then back down. After grabbing something off of her bag, she throws it on the table. It's a little plushie in the shape of a dog with a face.

"Onii-chan"

"I see"

I grab onii-chan, walk over to the window, open it and throw onii-chan away.

"I just bought that yesterday"

"Prop-comedy!?"

"pft-"

She covered her mouth.

Was that a laugh?

For some reason, I'm happy.

I sit down at the other end of the table.

And then I get up.

I'm not joining the literature club.

I turn around to leave the room

"Hoh?"

"I'll probably come back to chat at various points in the story, but for now I've got some other characters to be introduced to"

With that I walked out of the door without looking back.

Come to think of it, I never actually got her name.

Well, I can just ask the next time I stop by.

Now, onto the next club.
