Chapter 1:

The Worst Prom Ever: Beginning of the Curse

Soulmate Hunting

When they were just teenagers, Jack built up the courage to ask his crush to prom. However, he was still somewhat nervous. Sweat dripped off his forehead as if raindrops sliding on a window. Butterflies flew in his stomach but with a vision of a tempting future with his crush he couldn't give up now. He saw his crush Linda playing with her hair and chatting with a friend near the cafeteria. Jack held a rose as red as Rudolph's nose in his hand. On his way to the cafeteria, he bumped into someone carrying a tray of food. Beans and juice spilled all over his clothes. A wet and stained shirt, nothing feels more disgusting to wear. His plan was ruined. Linda saw the incident along with many others and laughed at Jack. That's when the curse started. The curse of failing to find love.

Jefferey asked Linda's sister Lizzy to prom. This meant Linda would be near them at all times and that wasn't good for Jack. He couldn't stand near Linda after the cafeteria incident. Meanwhile, Charles didn't even have to ask anyone to go to prom. A girl asked him before he even tried. There may not have been feelings between them but she knew Charles was getting close to making a huge discovery in the stock market at such a young age. His success could mean a large amount of money which can fund her dream prom. Entry in a fancy car, a good funded dress and the company of a wealthy and influential young mate.

On the other hand Timothy asked out a senior. It takes some guts to do that. Apparently he wasn't only the oldest but also the most courageous. Timothy won the respect of many other students who like all boys looked up at someone who identified as cool and brave.
To this day Jack has nightmares about that prom. Everyone was dancing with their partners while Jack stood in the side of the room as if he'd received a punishment. Although he was surrounded with his schoolmates and friends his only best friend there was the food. The food kept him calm and it made him enjoy himself without the partying. Until the time when the music stopped and everyone saw one odd person away from the crowd devouring food like a despondent and depressed being who people wanted to be far away from. Poor poor Jack. Like always the spotlight of ridicule. But his friends weren't so bad they consoled him after all they were friends no matter how much they were blinded by the prom, their partners and supposedly being cool. He thanked them and went back home in a bit as he thought of it as the best solution. The day had been ruined already.

Since a young age, Jack was a lot behind in the race of love. But now when everyone in his family around the same age as him was getting married he was not only pressured by his friends but also by his parents to establish a family. His cousins were all married off into good families too. Samuel in a family of furniture making factory owners and Larry in a family which has a big name in the real estate industry. It was time he did something about it. But what could he do? He couldn't actually force someone to be interested in him like Charles, Timothy and Jefferey joke about him doing.
