Chapter 1:

Myra

Void in the Realm

I had a strong feeling that he was a time traveler. I approached him as quickly as possible before I could lose him and finally I caught him. I asked for his name and where he was from. He had a transparent device. His device was extraordinary, there was a pen, almost like an apple pencil. He twisted it and a holographic screen appeared. He could detach the screen and access it using gestures. The pen can either be used as a property or simply with a tap, it turns holographic too. This device translated my language to his and said everyone calls him V and he was lost.

This all happened a week ago but it feels like a million years. My heart is pounding very quickly when I think about this now. I still am not sure where I’m right now. It’s like I’m in either dawn or dusk all the time. I opened the window and saw nothing but trees. I was first so happy to see so many trees. Unfortunately, the trees don’t provide oxygen here.

Let me walk you through what happened after I met V. I was very curious to know more about him and his origin. I had so many questions in my head but after seeing the tech he was using, I was too fascinated by it. Almost all his gadgets looked holographic but he could also hold it. It was all transferable. I wouldn’t use the word magic to describe it as all were programmed but we generally call that as magic. I’m pretty sure he noticed me staring at him but he didn’t utter a word. Even if he looked lost, he wasn’t even a tiny bit scared or perplexed. It was as if he was prepared for it. No, more than prepared, I would say trained.

V wasn't looking dangerous. He has dazzling eyes wearing high tech glasses, around 5 feet 10 inches tall. He is super handsome and one could glare at him all day long. He was walking so fast so I had to run a little to catch up. I called him V and he turned back. He asked me with a gentle smile "Do you want to join me with my quest?". Somehow, he was able to learn English in those few minutes as if some language software was uploaded straight to his brain. I started to wonder if I was dreaming or imagining him.

I said I would like to join his quest without even thinking as if those words came out of my mouth unconsciously. It’s fascinating how our brain works. We sometimes can’t differentiate if we control the brain or vice versa. He booked a cab and it was right there and I joined him. When we entered the cab, the cab driver called onto his name, V, to confirm the ride. I thought to myself that at least now I know I am not imagining. We sat inside the cab, and I started asking questions.

I asked which year he’s from first because I was hoping he was from the future. He said, “Myra, I am not from the future, if that’s what you are thinking. I did think the same when I first stepped foot here that I traveled to the past but my device shows 2090, the same year when I started. I know you have a lot of questions. But for now, I can tell you just this. If you are wondering if I’m a robot, I am very much human and you will be safe around me,” with a calm face. I was so surprised when he said all those for just one question I asked him.

I was more curious after he said those. I asked him where we were going and the details about the quest. He answered, “I can’t talk about it to you now, I can show you. You may discontinue to go with me anytime you like.” It was so convincing and I was eager to know the details, ”‘I would like to stay with you and come along for the quest,” I said looking right into his eyes. The cab stopped at the destination that he had mentioned.
