Chapter 5:

5 - Scabiosa School Part 1

Yama

There are two chevaliers schools in this country, Scorpion Society. One in the west, Lavandula School. One in the east, Scabiosa School, this school. One month before the exam, we will get a preparation class from the school itself both in educational theory and physical fight. Yama's monologue after being woke up from his daydream by his teacher.

"Hmm, Yama?" Yua shows her lunch box indicating she wants to eat together with Yama.

"Oh...sure," Yama said while resting his chin on his left hand.

Yua brings her chair and puts her lunch box on Yama's table.

"Where's your lunch box Yama?" Yua asked.

"Oh, ergh... I forgot to bring it hehe..." Yama answered with a little smirk.

"Oh, then let's share mine," Yua invited.

"Okay, if you are okay with it..." Yama accepted.

As they were sharing the lunch box containing rice, meat and salad, Yama's face didn't seem delighted with the atmosphere. He can feel a lot of disturbing questions from other students who want to leave for lunch.

Just this morning,

"Srkkk…" Yama pushes his chair slowly to stand in his place ready to introduce himself. He looks straight to the whiteboard avoiding eye contact with others.

"Name, Hikari Yama. Element, Water," Yama said shortly and sit fastly after that.

"Wait... That's him right? The one from three years ago.

" Really? The one from 'Eclipse'? Is that really him?"

"He's really that boy from before?"

"I'm pretty sure of it, I still remember his name, Hikari ... Yama... Yeah, that must be him!"

A loud whisper spread among the class. Other students chatted with each other about Yama.

"Quiet class! Good to know you, Yama. Next," Tanaka Akira, a female teacher with long curly blonde hair, was seated in the teacher's place in the middle front of the class. Referring and marks the paper she holds that contains information about students while glancing at the students who introduce themselves.

After a bunch of students introduced themselves by line, Yua's turn, who sat on Yama's right, came.

"Name, Yua. Element, none."

"Good to know you, Yua. Next."

"No element? A civilian then?"

"She must be someone who we called irregularis."

Not loud like Yama, but still, there's a whisper coming from another student.

During break time. Everyone leaves the class with and without their lunch box. Some might go to the cafeteria or want to eat somewhere else. Only four people stay behind, that's Yama, Yua, a boy and a girl.

"Hello, Yua... right?" A boy came standing beside Yua's table and asked. A boy with side fringe red hair. His school uniform is almost identical to Yama's, instead, it's fashioned with red stripes.

"Yes…" Yua replies slowly.

"Nice to meet you, I'm Miura Sora. Element: fire," he reached out his right hand to shake hands. Yua peeked at Yama for a second. Yama, who is just watching from the start, raises his eyebrows as a sign to carry on. She reached for Miura's hand with an uncomfortable smile.

"Hmm, Yua… you know... I just want to ask you. Why are you here? You know this school is only for chevaliers right? Not for civilians like you," his straight word doesn't seem to hurt Yua's feelings. Yua once again took a peek toward Yama and he once again raised his eyebrows. Before Yua opens her mouth...

"That's not a right fact at all... there's a rare occasion like Yua who was given special permission to enrol into Chevaliers School even though they are normal civilians. We called them irregularis."

An elegant voice came from a beautiful girl with long chocolate brown hair who said it confidently. She sat right in front of Yua. With chocolate brown as her uniform stripes.

"Irregularis? Sounds racist to me hahaha!" Sora laughs alone awkwardly.

"I don't think it's unusual to act surprised to irregularis... but not to know there's such a thing is so ignorant… Sora," the girl critique.

"Hm...ignorant? I don't think not knowing unimportant things is ignorant, Sumiko... but whatever you think. Hehe... you know what Yua? Everyone is talking about you secretly after your intro. Sounds like they look down on you," Sora said without any form of guilt.

"How good of you to inform her of something like that…" Sumiko said with sarcasm.

"Hahaha, you know... I'm just curious hahaha… anyway, don't you want to go to the cafeteria?" Sora changed their topic.

Yua shows her brown lunch box indicating she will eat in class.

"Okay then, let's talk again later!" Sora leaves the classroom toward the cafeteria, "Wait, what about you Yama?"

Yama raises his right hand in mid-air as a no gesture.

"I see... Sumiko?" Sora invited.

"No, I'm good," Sumiko refused.

“Oh, okay then…” Sora leaves the room for real this time.

How can he memorize our name just from that introduction? I barely remember one-quarter of it. Guess there are people like him out there. Yama is impressed by Miura Sora's memory.

“Don’t bother by his words, people will take anyone to look down even if you are not here, just think of it as their jealousy toward someone different instead of racism…” Sumiko said while facing straight without turning her body toward Yua.

"Oh... Okay..." she's staring at her silver-striped uniform. The implication is that she has no element as she is not from a chevalier bloodline while Yama glares at her act from his seat.

"Oh if you want to know, I'm Sato Sumiko, my element is earth. Nice to meet you, Yua."

That being said, only Sumiko and Sora have been trying to communicate with Yua. I don't care about treatment, but it's something worth watching. What exactly do people view something abnormal in their society? What if I change Yua with-

“Yama?” Yua caught Yama being pensive.

"Oh...I'm done Yua, you can finish the food…"

"ATTENTION TO ALL STUDENTS!"

A loud woman's voice suddenly came from the speaker breaking the peaceful atmosphere.

"There's a malus movement found in the school library 3! All students are prohibited from entering the library for now!"

That library... It's the library we went to a few days ago. Yama still remembers his hand that was left stranded in it.
