Act III - The Fall (Part 1)

At the dawn of the Edo Period in Japan, in the fall of the 5th year of the Keicho Era, shortly after the Battle of Sekigahara, Gennosuke Raizo, stands by the river waiting for the arrival of his beloved Miyuki. Since they were kids, they were fierce competitors and bitter rivals, but a powerful love had emerged between them. Gennosuke, however, was in a somber mood as he knew that this could possibly be the last meeting between them.

ACT III – The Fall

[Miyuki arrived and like the countless times before walked slowly towards her love. And just like before, he could feel her presence. He turns to her and begins to speak]

Gennosuke: You once asked me if I believed we could change our destiny…we were young then, unfamiliar with complicated choices.

[A tear is seen working its way down along Raizo’s face, highlighted by the glint of the morning sun, Miyuki also has tears in her eyes, remembering the countless conversations they’d had as children]

Gennosuke: (continues) I now believe we do what we can, until our destinies are revealed to us. Then, we do what we must…

Miyuki: How can you choose death over my love? Why would you refuse your Lord’s orders? Is there no honor left in your heart??

Gennosuke: Honor? That is all that I have left! I could not kill innocent women and children at the whim of a mad man. That’s not what we dedicated our lives to! That is not honor. There is life in every breath…that is Busido!

[He walks toward her, eliminating any space that existed between them and he holds Miyuki close]

Gennosuke: (continues) I choose to forfeit my life, before I let myself become anything less than the man you love!

Miyuki: (solemn) It is a heavy cost.

Gennosuke: I pay it, gladly.

[Miyuki notices a cherry blossom tree withering away in the autumn air]

Miyuki: The perfect blossom is rare thing. A life is not wasted looking for one and never finding it.

Gennosuke: (caressing her face) They are all perfect!

(He kisses her on the forehead as Miyuki wraps her arms around his waist)

Gennosuke: We will be together again, my beautiful snow. When our soul’s destinies collide once more...
