Chapter 14:

Makoto and the Two Princesses

Odd One

"Let's welcome Kano Arisu to our club"

Both Katsumi and I found ourselves simply staring at Kano who was acting the same way she would in class and what not, but for me, I could tell that there was something else going on in her head.

"What's she planning?"

I couldn't very well say anything to her in the moment and I felt that if I tried to say anything to her later on, she would simply ignore me or dismiss it as a lie on my part.

"I'm glad to be working with the both of you from this moment going forward"

"Now with that out of the way, I'm going to head on to the office"

"You're just going to leave just like that?"

"I have things to finish up"

"Fine..."

Without saying another word, she waved goodbye at the three of us, closed the door behind her and before I knew it, it was simply us three in the clubroom sitting around without speaking up.

"It's nice having you here with us, Kano"

"Thank you for the kind words, Katsumi" "You're nice unlike someone else in this very room"

I could feel the literal daggers digging into my back, but even then, I wasn't going to let her words affect me.

"Don't be so dramatic"

"I'm not"

"It sounds like it"

"That's just because you're a dramatic person yourself, Makoto"

"You have a point there"

There was nothing else I could say in that moment. I simply let out a sigh and looked out the window for a bit wondering what I would do next after the whole Kano joining our club thing.

"If I may, Kano?"

"Yes?"

"Why did you decide to join the club?"

Katsumi had asked the question in my mind and for that I was thankful. Kano didn't seem all that surprise by it and simply responded with the same tone as usual.

"Because I wanted to experience something different to what I'm used to"

"Experience something different?"

"Yes. I knew that being in a club where I knew nobody would be slightly difficult and for that reason..."

"You decided to join this club where you at least know Makoto and myself, right?"

"That's one of the reasons"

"What's the other reason?"

Kano glanced over at me for a brief moment and then turned back her gaze towards Katsumi "The other reason is simply because it gives me an opportunity to bully Makoto more throughout the day"

"You little..."

"You enjoy my company, Makoto. If you didn't, you wouldn't talk to me whenever the chance arrives and what not"

"..."

I had no comeback for those words of hers, the best I could do was simply wait for the clock to tick down to the point where I could finally leave and rest.

"Do you mind explaining to me what the club does exactly?"

"Didn't Miss Mitsuru explain it to you?"

"She told me that the both of you would do that for me"

I clicked my tongue and sighed "She really likes to throw these types of things onto others..." I glanced back over at Kano and started explaining it as short as possible.

"The whole point is to solve problems that students might have instead of having them go to a teacher or something of the sort that can make it even bigger than it should be"

"I see..."

"For example, there has already been one case and Makoto here ended up fixing it using his own method..."

When Katsumi said those words, I could tell that she was slightly disappointed. I didn't know why she sounded like that, it could have been because she had to remind herself that she lost to someone such as myself or something else, but regardless, I couldn't try and figure it out.

"I'm guessing that you made yourself look like the bad guy, didn't you?"

Kano knew me too well. It was scary how well she knew me, but at the same time, I was expecting her to figure that out without any problems or hints at all.

"You know it"

"You really like to do things your own way, don't you?"

"It gets the job done"

"I understand that..." The one to speak up was none other than Katsumi herself "But even then, it hurts just thinking about the fact that you suffer just so that others can feel better about themselves"

"That's just who I am"

"There's no way that he can change that, Katsumi"

"I'll try to change him..." She turned towards me, and I could see that she was determined to change me just like she had said "I'm going to make you see that the way you do things isn't the best way to solve things"

I couldn't laugh at her words. I could simply hope that she would be able to do such a thing "We'll see what happens"

With that out of the way, we stayed in the classroom for a few minutes more and once it was a good time, the three of us made our way out of the classroom and started making our way out of the school for good.

"And when do you guys get new cases?"

"It all depends on to be honest, we still don't know a set time or date when people come in"

"I see... I guess I won't be that busy" "And it's also the perfect club for a lazy person such as Makoto here"

"Way to throw it right back at me"

"That's just who I am"

I clicked my tongue and as we continued walking down the street, Katsumi stopped in place and bowed at the both of us.

"I'll be going. I have some things to do around here"

"Got it"

"Until tomorrow"

"Bye Kano, Bye Makoto"

"See you"

With that out of the way, it was just Kano and me continuing down the road. As we were doing so, I noticed that she was walking a bit closer and closer to me, but I decided to ignore it until it was a big issue for me.

"What are you planning?"

"I have no idea what it is that you're saying, Makoto"

"You didn't join the club just because"

"How can you be so sure?"

"You're not the type of person to pull these things off without a core reason and your core reason isn't because you want to be in a club, there's something else to this"

"..."

A moment of silence befell the both of us and as I waited for her to give me an answer, I started thinking back to what had occurred with Katsumi.

"She's been acting a bit differently with me as of late...."

"I guess..."

"Hmm?"

"It's something that you'll just have to find out about in the near future~"

"Don't use that cutesy tone with me. It gives me chills"

"Don't be rude"

"Sorry"

She let out a sigh and then giggled a bit "Good luck finding out what I'm planning, Makoto"

"I feel like I don't want to know about it to be perfectly honest with you"

"Well, that's not happening"

"..."

We both continued walking down the street and before I knew it, we were already nearing her house.

"I guess it's time to part ways then"

"Why not accompany me home for now?"

"Why?"

"You can't let a lady walk around alone"

"I don't see a lady anywhere"

"Want me to change that?"

"Naw, I'm good"

Once we were at the front of her house, she opened the door and was about to step inside when she stopped in place and glanced over towards me.

"I'll see you tomorrow, right?"

"Yeah, you will"

"That's nice..."

"Hmm? How so?"

"Don't worry about it. I'll see you tomorrow"

She waved goodbye at me and before I knew it, I was alone once more. I stared at the door for a bit and then decided to start walking towards my own house.

But even then, in the back of my mind, I couldn't help but start thinking about the reason she had decided to join the club and what not.

"I guess I'll find out in the future just like she told me back there"

With that out of the way, I continued making my way towards my own house all the while thinking about how my new life would be with someone like here there in the room as well"

In conclusion... There will always be a reason that someone does something for you, but the reason as to why will never present itself to you until it is the perfect moment for them to ask you for that favor in return. -By Miyashita Makoto.
