Chapter 8:

CUBIC * ANGEL OF DEATH

During the trip, Yuuyami-senpai remains watchful. The men are three, and one of them has a furnished beard. Other than that, they're almost exact look-alikes. Their placement is also strange, as one stands with two sitting at opposite places — effectively covering the entire wagon within their field of view. The one standing is using his phone, and eventually turns his head towards us, in a motion that might be natural.

I check the various train stations remaining till Shibuya, as it appears that it's only a few minutes before we get to reach the surface.

Kanadera-san is by Yuuyami-senpai's side, near the window. Due to her average, girlish stature, she is just small enough to be hidden by the train. Whether it's intended or not briefly puzzles me.

"Taoru-kun, Kana-chan, we'll make a rush for the exit, but keep still till I say otherwise... Methinks the black salarymen or something wanna chase our likes!"

For the first time in a long while, she appears to be aware of her surroundings. Thus keeping a low volume. And since when are they friendly enough that she uses a shorter nickname for Kanadera-san?

Just now, the train decelerates. The gradual decrease of speed will lead to the opening of automatic doors near the center of the wagon. Closer to the men in black suits... Yuuyami-senpai closes her eyes, and roughly ten seconds later, she stands. Pulling on both our hands, she runs as we tense up to follow. The men try to follow us, but the influx of people wanting to get on the train acts as a barrier.

There's a door by the other side, and that's what she's been hoping for. And so, she leads us through the maze-like network of the Shibuya Station. We climb stairs in a hurry, as I begin to grasp for breath.

"Come on, Taoru-kun! Just a little stamina would do..."

That's kind of all I have... Mumbling in my mind, I give it my all, forcing on my legs. I can feel the blood pumping in my veins, and the beats of my heart. I notice the shape of a black suit as I risk a glance over my shoulder. The sight gives me even more stress, and I climb faster!

The mass of people on the streets, despite the incident that occurred, might make for a tragic landscape. At the very least, the crowd will allow us to hide from what one might assume to be... detectives?

Shibuya has changed a lot since my childhood memories. In just a few years, the trend has grown towards intense purple lighting for buildings. It followed the discovery of red-purple as the most stimulating color by psychologists.

Still, an investigation is ongoing, as the noise of police sirens tells us. And what would we do, even if we lurked around? That's the type of thing that's to be left to Yuuyami-senpai, so I turn towards her. She seems to be jubilating...?

"Amazing! Amazing! Amazing! Just now, we were so being chased! That means we've totally nailed it. The conspiracy is real. Whoever wears a black suit is hella sus!"

"Since when am I Kana-chan?"

That's a reasonable thing to ask, Kanadera-san. But not the most important, right now.

"And so, what do we do, now?"

To this question, Yuuyami-senpai pulls out her school-issued tablet grandiloquently. And then...

"I present to you the best tool in this case... GhostOut!"

"Ghost... Out?"

Kanadera-san sounds confused, and I feel the same.

"GhostOut is an app that can find ghosts! It uses the camera function, and applies to it various filters, like infrared or ultraviolet. What's more, it's also connected to an Augmented Reality network. And there's even a function to look up online what the app is recording!"

That's a long and needlessly detailed explanation. But for the sake of her bright mood, I don't point it out. Rather than that, I look towards the building closest to police cars symbolically blocking the way...

"Yuuyami-senpai, I just want to confirm, do you know what building is concerned?"

Kanadera-san asks so while fiddling her hair.

"Why, of course! It's where you can find a Hard Techs mall, at one of the floors. Well, I'm going to scan the area a bit."

And so, we the profane look at a proactive Yuuyami-senpai. She angles the tablet at various angles, as I'm catching my breath... I see the bun tilt a little, and realize she appears puzzled.

"Okay, I'm not sure what's happening... It's weird. Look at this, please."

"You really found the angel of death?"

I ask, surprised there's any result at all.

"Of course! Don't underestimate GhostOut!"

Alright. Alright. Glancing over the tablet, there is indeed a window with the same picture declined in multiple filtered copies. And a cubic shape appears to station in the sky. Cubic?!

"Why is such a volume out there? Maybe there's some drone whose shadow..."

Suddenly, looking at the sky makes my temples hurt. Blood seems to pump throughout my brain. I feel dizzy, and my vision blurrs... Feels like I might just fall over. My senses grow numb as my legs falter...
