Chapter 7:

Sacrilege Part II

Paradise

Zoey knocks on a door and patiently awaits for someone to answer. When it opens, a very upset Rieko peers around the door with her mascara running all down her face.

"What?" She said with an icy tone.

Zoey isn't phased, she smiled at her warmly. "Hello, are you perhaps Rieko Hale?"

"I don't want to be interviewed. Now leave."

She almost slammed the door before Zoey stopped it forcibly with her hand.

"I don't wish to interview you. I want to help you get even. If you just give me a little of your time, I could definitely make it worth your while."

Rieko gave her a disgusted look. "I doubt she'd even want to help. Did Celia put her up to this? She seems like the shady type she'd hang around." She hesitantly opened the door despite every fiber in her body screaming no to the impulse decision.

The two sat down across from each other in the living room with an awkward silence.

Rieko broke it with a commanding tone. "What exactly can you do to help me? You're fighting a losing battle with no evidence to refute his claims."

Zoey sat with her legs crossed and sat up just a bit, with a sly, evil looking smirk.

"Rieko Hale, a twenty four year old working two jobs just to survive, paying off the debts your mother passed to you post mortem. Now your livelihood is in danger, your faith in God rattled, and no one believes you. My name is Zoey, and I'm a demon. I can make your life turn completely around if you allow me to turn you into a demon as well."

Rieko jumped out of her seat with shock and confusion overwhelming her. "H-how did you know all of that?! No..you can't be an actual demon…I am not a scandalous sinner!"

"We are what others perceive us to be. Nothing more, nothing less. Our narrative can be self produced until others spin it in a mass production. The crowd always drowns an individual. Now, if you join me, I'll help you. If not, I walk away and people will believe you even less that you were approached by a demon. Better yet, they might even say you deserve it." Zoey stood to her feet letting out a disappointed sigh. "But it's your funeral. I'll see myself out."

Rieko quickly moved to the door and stopped her, panting slightly from the sudden burst. "No no..! Please..help me. I'll join you if my friend Celia can too, I-I don't want to be alone."

"Hmm. A two for one deal? What's your friend like exactly? Not to be rude but I tend to be highly selective with who I deem worthy. Besides, who knows if she'd even want to-"

"She's a super kind satanist!" Rieko exploded, cutting off Zoey without warning.

"I see, I guess I could. So, I'll hold my end of the bargain first out of good fortune. If you try to run I won't be too happy."

"Yes ma'am…"

-

Tobias entered the church after doing thorough research, before him was the priest in question, walking around tending to the building.

"Hmm? Who might you be? Have you come to join my congregation?"

Tobias shook his head. "No. I've come here to expose you, Reverend John Almos, aka Fredrick Maldoss, aka Herald Jameson. You're quite the chameleon. Avoiding tax fraud, sexual harassment, bank robbery, list goes on. Yet somehow you've become a church leader?" Tobias clapped sarcastically. "Your days are done. All that it comes down to is, will you admit your wrongdoing or do I need to forcefully annihilate you?"

John stomped towards Tobias, pushing him back the moment he's close enough.

"Get out! This is a house of God, and I will not have such heresy spoken!"

"I didn't speak against God. I spoke against a fake follower of his. Now. You can either comply and get less prison time, or you can get more prison time. No other option."

Tobias' expression didn't change from his cool demeanor. He isn't rattled, or even nervous. He has the man backed into a corner just like he wants.

Without warning, a loud sound echoes in the large empty church. A sound of broken glass and footsteps moving through it. Bursting through one of the backrooms is Celia carrying a shotgun. Tobias almost grabbed his gun in his pocket until he recognized the woman.

"Turn around and look at me asshole!"

Celia's voice boomed in the spacious church, you can hear the echoes that came from it like she'd repeated herself clearly a second time.

The priest turned to face her to see the weapon pointed at him, changing his demeanor immediately as he dropped to his knees with his head bowed.

"Please, don't kill me! I don't want to diee!"

"Can it! I don't care about your pathetic reasoning to live. You deserve this."

Tobias stood on the sideline watching everything transpire, he picked his moment to chime in.

"Hey, I did what you asked. The guy is going to prison no matter what. I can't clear your friend if you kill him."

Celia turned her focus to Tobias pointing her gun at him. "That's not enough for me. Now shut up and let me do this or I'll maim you."

She turns back to John who got to his feet hustling towards the door, before stopping as it opened before he touched it. Before him stood Zoey and Rieko, making him fall back onto his rear.

"Seems we've come at an interesting time. Nice to see you again John, at least I believe that's what you're going by now." Zoey said with a sly smirk.

"I'm sorry you know him, Zoey?" Tobias asked.

"He's one of the many people I made a contract with."

"Mind elaborating there? I want to end this guy right now." Celia said with her gun pointed at his head once again.

"Celia. Don't. Zoey has business with him. She's an actual demon." Rieko said, walking towards Celia to try to diffuse her anger.

John looked at Zoey like he'd seen death walk into his home, he wanted to run but his body felt too paralyzed to move a muscle. She stood over him, stomping her foot down as her black aura shrouded them both, the intensity is unlike Tobias had seen.

"You breached our contract. We allowed you to continue on in the hopes you would turn yourself around, yet look at where you are. You've ruined people's lives again in a different capacity. Now, your due must be paid."

"I..I, I want to renegotiate!"

"Doesn't work like that. Now.." She trailed off as the aura dissipated. "Tobias, you caught him red handed, yes? If you send him to prison, I'll pick him up once his sentence is over~"

"We have a lot to talk about after this Zoey. But, yes I'm in full agreement. Just let me in before I spend extensive hours conducting research even though I didn't need to."

Celia ran towards Zoey and put her hands on her shoulders with stars in her eyes. "You are a real demon! Please, take this shitty world and bring the ones who deserve it into the fiery abyss."

"Celia!" Rieko shouted at her before Zoey held her hand up to halt her.

"Celia. Can I trust you to control yourself if I said you could become a demon along with Rieko?"

"Y-yes! But I don't think-"

"She wants to."

"Huh? Really, Miss God lover herself? Then..you can count on me. I would never ever let my friend down like that."

"Good!"

A piece of her aura came out of her and forcefully pushed into both Celia and Rieko. Making them convulse violently as they both hit the floor. You can hear the thuds of their bodies echoing through the church, as they foamed at the mouth gasping like they were dying. Their eyes rolled back making the scene even more disturbing.

Tobias jumped to his feet to check on them. But they stopped moving abruptly, making him freeze. He looked at Zoey with concern, but she seemed hardly phased.

The two friends got back to their feet, with black auras swirling around them both. They looked at each other and laughed, allowing Tobias to breathe again.

"Zoey. How many more like John are there?"

"A lot, Tobias. I've made many contracts over the past twenty-eight years. Not all were good, but I needed to do something to make these people eventually own up."

"Anything else you need to tell me?"

"You'll have to find that out won't you?"
