"What I'm about to tell you... is about the Eclipse project, that involves my family's company, Kanadera..."
As the tone of her voice dramatically drops, becoming quieter, our eyes are drawn to her. She throws glances all around the empty café, a place she led us to of her own accord.
"In Japan, it's known as a luxuous comestic giant. I'm sure you must have met some advertising."
The advertisement on TV with the vocaloid and her hyperrealistic motion flashes through my mind.
"Definitely! Kanadera, and I feel glad!" Yuuyami-senpai reacts with enthusiasm, not seeming to grasp the urgency of the situation.
Makes sense, since she still thinks it's about some urban legend — she hasn't seen Tenshi Kanadera shredded by saw-like wings... As for me, I merely nod.
"As you may be able to tell, I have French blood," she says as she holds onto a strand of blonde hair. "And Kanadera's name overseas is Kanadera Pharmaceutics."
"Pharmaceutics?"
I can kind of get what the word means... It's probably pills and medication.
"Yes. The company, being a conglomerate on this very field, works on the industrial applications of medicine. In Japan, it just so happens that the market was more receptive to luxuous products."
As expected of a studious heiress. She knows more or less how her company works. But... that doesn't explain what I've seen. She pursues, casting a glance away.
"Pharmaceutics can also involve biological experiments... Like cloning, or breeding. On scales that include bacteria. And more recently, parasites."
At the mention of parasites, Yuuyami-senpai's spoon clatters against the parfait cup. She winces.
"Now, this is only based on what I overheard, and data I had difficulty accessing..."
Her voice grows quieter as she lowers her eyes. She feels cautious. As Yuuyami-senpai reaches out to hold her hand, she seems to find her words.
"The relationship between Kanadera Pharmaceutics and the Earth Government is troubling, to say the least... It appears that the latter tasked the conglomerate with a mission on demographics, with overpopulation as a concern."
What? I don't understand most of the words. But it feels like it's greater than what high-schoolers can possibly deal with. I mean...
"Earth Government?!" My upperclasswoman is jubilant as always...
"Not so loud, Yuuyami-senpai!"
"It should be fine, I trust the owner, the café has sound insulation, and there is jamming in place to prevent being tracked." What she does not mention is that she had us turn off any electronical device, and proceeded to go through our belongings for any possible wire.
"The Earth Government is, like you must have seen in classes, the institution that followed supranational integrations. It's the group of elites that pursues worldwide cosmocracy. And they're leading the Eclipse project."
"And what's this Eclipse about?"
"You should know, since you're an esper..."
"Esper?!?" Yuuyami-senpai seems to have regained interest in the conversation, her parfait now fully eaten.
What? She must be alluding to the visions I've had last night and a mere fifteen minutes ago, but... How'd she know?
"How could you possibly know?!"
"Your brain implant. Suna Taoru, born on March 3rd, 2028. You were one of the subjects of Kanadera Pharmaceutics when the company experimented on brain chips, as well as extrasensory behaviors."
As she casually says something so relevant to my entire existence, she leans towards her bag. She retrieves a folder. As she opens it at a certain page, she invites me to look at it. And indeed, very private information can be read, as well as graphic renditions of the inner of my still infant skull...
"No way you're that amazing?! Growing exciting by the second! At the very core of the conspiracy!" Yuuyami-senpai, it's getting annoying. We're talking about my brain, my mental life...
