Chapter 0:

Waking up in an unknown place

Knight, Dragon and 100% Human (Bruh probably gonna be on Hiatus for a long time, I had Uni so couldn't continue it. Probably gonna be back at this book after some time)

A pleasant voice greeted her.

"You're finally awake". A robotic voice chimed in, echoing off the dusty walls - watching the now waking body through the monitor with curious eyes. It Illuminated the dark place, revealing the stationary silhouette of a girl, now slowly rousing up. The slow movements reflecting the years of sleep.

The faint light from the monitor tickled the girl's eyes.

The light slowly erased her sleep away, revealing dazed grey eyes and blinking eyelids. The eyes strained to see in the minute lighting, trying to make sense of the of space.

"Good morning?" , the girl was unsure how to respond. The voice, almost like a whisper. She saw no one else around. Her senses hadn't fully recovered yet. She felt isolated from the world in this small dark pocket.

The girl's struggled to find the source of the greeting voice, until her gaze rested on a small screen in the corner of the room, a rectangular window to a world where there was no darkness or duty walls. The only evidence of the outside world existing in the now broken screen, now home to something human. At least it looked some what human. It looked as if a monitor was threw out the window after being of use no more to its user, it's fall only broken by being caught in a web of wires that just happened to be there.

As the girl walked closer with slow heavy steps, she saw a faint outline of a face on the screen. It was hard to exactly see what the face looked like. A thousand broken pieces, just barely connected together by the shattered strings on a screen. It was as if a pale bloodless face was put into a blender and then tossed back out in all it's glory. A few shades of red might have  added an artistic touch to the simple white bright screen. Making sense of the thing behind the screen was very hard. It couldn't be said whether this was the broken screen's fault or the fault of her eyes slowly adjusting to the brightness after her long sleep. It was best to say it was a face out of a horror story, the pleasant voice being a horrible addition.

An android affected by the Cogito virus !  If I would have gotten that body ! but I have to settle for this measly MAID bot. Infiltrating the Breach wont be easy in this bot, and the Knight wont let me go easily this time. I'll have to make the most of this situation.

Let's start with introductions, the face on the screen thought.  She doesn't remember her name for sure, but I'd like to be called by a name at least. " I am MAID Lucian, a Multi Appendige Intelligent Device. And I've been your roommate for the past 100 years, waiting for you to wake up. I've been very lonely, and I was so happy when you woke up !. How may I assist you ?". Lucian might have even added a slight bow if she had a body.  She intentionally left out the word "Master" in the end. She couldn't take the cringe. Trust is the foundation of a good relationship, nurtured by being truthful to each other. Giving a fake name to someone I just met isn't a good way to build trust, however, she's in the BLANK stage of the virus. It would've been optimal if the android was still in the FILL stage. I can get away with a few lies, but I'll have to make sure there aren't any holes in them. 100 years should be believable, judging by her model. These were the thoughts racing through Lucian's head as she talked with the new android, channelling as much of a sincere smile that could be made out on the broken screen. A smile a parent gives to a child in order to convince it to eat unpleasant medicene. She hoped it would make her appear more friendly.

It's a face talking to me through a screen. At least it seems like one. But is it a good idea to converse with "that" ?  But, this thing is the only company I have. It seems capable of speaking, and it might help in making some sense of this situation. The girl's eyebrows slowly arched to convey the action of this thought.

As horrifying as it is, I'll talk. I should not take things at face value.

The girl took a deep breath, faced the screen, and looked straight at where eyes would be present if the screen wasn't so horribly broken. She moved her titanium lips, and said confidently -

" Hello Lucian ! My name is ..... "

Silence

The girl couldn't remember her name. She felt like she had said it a lot before, a distant time ago. Flashes of instances where she talked to people before popped up in her mind.

She couldn't now.

She tried moving her lips again, hoping it would be at the tip of her tongue. And -

Nothing.

Defeated, she finally uttered " Who am I ? "
