Chapter 2 Denstined one

Throughout the day her labor was to explore the limits around the village, to be exact nobody knows when did humans got extinct nor when the village was built, besides there’s no archives or information taking about why did huma lost communication between themselves.

Maria always has been interested to go further the outskirts of the village, all the way down there’s a river according to her database it’s beautiful, the only problem is that she can’t swim on it, a lot of huma have a belief that water is going to damage their circuits other think is thanks to their weight an average huma weighs around 150-170 pounds, Maria puts her left hand fingers in the river and nothing happens,also she can’t feel nothing.

Climbing up the mountain on her way back she founds a cave, listens echoes, it may be an animal, around the area there’s a lot of wolves maybe is one of them, Maria goes inside while she’s doing it the echoes increase their intensity and start to sound sounds she’ve never heard before.

She walks slowly, the noises grew louder, she knows them ,they are Kyle & Melissa they’re having sex, Maria doesn’t know how to react she got closed to watch until she falls and stops the action.

Maria went back to the village, lying on her bed thinks about her actions, she knows what she said is true but she doesn’t understand why they got offended if it’s true, huma we’re built to resemble humans, this means they were given both male and female reproductive apparatus humas they doesn’t know why does not work, on the other hand a few huma suffer disfunction, huma only receive an impulse to pair two times a year, some are born without that, most decided to live sexless lives.

She feels bewildered, walks around the village, goes to the entrance and hears a voice.

Maria listened to those words, she just lowered her face and went back to her cabin.

Next morning a storm is raging on, the thunder hitting the clouds woke Maria, scared by this she dashes out of her room to the main cabin looking for Carlota & Jayden,when she arrived they were nowhere to be found, probably they’re taking care the animals, the village is at the top of a small mountain over uneven ground, Maria runs all around looking for some stuck water.

Nate the only Huma with brown hair, the entire village has grey or black hair, nobody knows if he’s from another village or if there used to be more like him back in the day, the only remarkable thing about him is that he’s the best fisherman and has terrible stamina.

The water runs across the village at full speed, Nate wants to close the door of the hen house with a wood plank the current and wind drags him, Maria goes to help him and finally closes the door.

Nate told her that a tower fell, scattered around the village there’s multiple towers to look outside in case of fire and look after animals.

Maria went to where Carlota and Jayden were, those two are arguing, Jayden makes eye contact with Maria and run past her straight to the village, Maria asked him about the situation but she just got ignored, a crying coming from Melissa, half of the tower felt over Kyle most of his body got smashed, apparently was an instant death, the other Huma are inspecting his body to see if some of his organs can be saved.

Melissa yelled at them to stop, still death bodies inspections are a rule, Carlota hugged her but she pushed her back, Melissa run to the river everyone ignored her, Maria showed concern but Carlota told her to stay still she needs some time alone.

The following day Maria was in charge of picking up the eggs from the chicken, despite yesterday events all the huma kept living their lives like nothing happened.

Maria, have you seen Melissa?, in haven’t saw her since yesterday, thank to the flood we ran out of axes. We're already looking for them in the outskirts but we need wood and Melissa was supposed to help me cut it, if you see her tell her I’ll be in front of the river.

Maria barely put attention to Nate’s words.

Perhaps losing her loved one dealt a significant emotional damage on her, but she doesn’t know how to help her to get through this.

Maria continued with her usual routine, she’s at the campfire with Mauricio and Amalia, the trio are discussing who had the hardest day, Mauricio rode around the village the entire day, Amalia knitted jackets for winter.

So.. how do you guys think she took it?,asked Mauricio.

Definitely not nicely, the only couple of the village has vanished, thanks that we’re born useless, most of us would rather be alone than get close to someone, answered Amalia.

The biggest failure of huma is they can’t reproduce themselves, it is normal to be raised in a precarious situation and hope that your successors gradually improve their living conditions, for huma it was only try & error, these thoughts made her realize that most of them knowing this from day one made them felt pressured and to free themselves from that weight started adopting nihilistic views.

Next mourning she’s called to an emergency summit, someone broke through a cabin and stole the clothes Amalia was making, Carlota & Jayden with other 4 huma inspectioned every single cabin, having found nothing the search has been postponed.

Some murmured Esteban is the culprit, he’s basically a sheriff and the most knowledgeable about horses, has been a while since he’s been asking to make clothes for the horses a barn is not enough to keep them safe from the higher temperatures, other point Melissa they think she’s just trying to call for attention.

A group of seven villagers go to confront Melissa, they decided to interrogate her, since Esteban is a pain to deal with, he also spends most of his time with the horses, besides Melissa is a girl they think can apply the human practices of pressuring women to do what they demand.

Melissa by just seeing a bunch of people in front of her frowned and turned her back, one huma held her arm, she shook her arm and told them to leave her in peace, they asked for an explanation.

All of YOU ARE NOTHING BUT CRAP, leave me alone, if you want your clothes so desperately pull it out off your asses!!!,Melissa lowers her eyes and goes out of the village.

An hour later, Jaycob goes to Maria and order her to go talk to Melissa, Maria tells him it would be better to give her some time.

When night falls, she’s looking at the ceiling, Maria can’t sleep, goes out for a walk around the village, in front of her there’s Amalia, Maria asked her about Melissa, but she responded that nobody has gotten in touch with her, the uneasy feeling grew bigger, leaving Amalia alone goes to Melissa’s cabin.

The door is unlocked, the back window is open, inside there’s a hole on the floor, the bed broke in half, and it seems two rings made out of wood sticks.

This doesn’t make sense, how no one noticed, she wondered where Melissa might be in front of the river ,inside the cave?.

When she arrived, Melissa’s boots were in front of the river, there’s no signs that she jumped or a puddle.

Entered the cave, at the entrance she found a bunch of flowers, probably showing a direction, she is where she found them the last time having sex, she can’t believe what shes seeing, half dead body of Kyle dress with the stole clothes, it as a few arrangements, one white shirt and he’s wearing a tiara made of sticks.

She feels disgusted for what she saw, goes deeper into the cave there’s even more flowers, Huma have internal neon light on their eyes that works as lamps she turned them on, this lamp recharge instantly with sunlight.

There’s a tiny light, followed and there’s torches, kept walking until…

Melissa is dressed with a long white dress, cleavage, arms and back are shown, she’s holding a doll sculpted in trunk of wood, has huma hair attached to it and covered in cloth.

Melissa, what are you doing?, asked Maria with a knot in her throat.

WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU DOING HERE?, GET OUT, DIE, LEAVE MY FAMILY AND ME ALONE!!!

Melissa threw the doll at Maria’s face, she tackled her and rode her chest and started to choke her, for some reason her strength is higher, Maria can’t do anything until her vision blurs and faints when Melissa run away.

With her weakened body, slowly leaves the cave, during her exist there’s no sign of Kyle’s body and the doll.

At the other side of the river there’s a flare, she gets closer and saw the doll over a bush, two kilometers away Melissa is naked while the dead body of Kyle lays on the ground, it seems that Melissa is courting him.

Maria sat turning her back on them, during her dance she said with a silent voice: life is unfair, we are born, and live to love, but why does it have to hurt so much?touch, being touched by our couple gives meaning to our existence…

Maria just lowered her face and turned her one way to another, Melissa stopped the courtship, putted her hand on Marias back, and tell her on the ear:

A liquid sprouted from her eyes, Maria kept looking at the ground, Melissa picks more branches closed to her, hugged the body of her loved one until she burns until she finally perishes
