Chapter 19:

Stew

Bastion

It was quite a sight to see so many people in one area since Liam-31 had first arrived to Earth, he was surprisingly overwhelmed as he continued moving with Judas-12.

A few people stared as they walked down the group of people, of course, it was to be expected, as the two bastions towered over the people at 200 cm, but they couldn't help it.

"Oh man, whatever they're making smells sooo good~" Judas-12 said with a laugh. Liam-31 found this to be true, his mouth beginning to water just from the smell of cooked meat.

Finally making it towards the make-shift kitchen in the middle of the camp, a man walked towards Judas-12.

"There you are!" The man said. "You have no idea how much help you've been giving us Judas, we would've never been able to gather that much materials in one day."

"Ah, don't sweat it." Judas-12 responded, "It was the least I could do for letting us stay here."

"Of course, of course... hm?" The man looked at Liam-31, before beginning to speak again. "You're the one who was fighting off that savage, weren't you? What's your name?"

"Liam." Liam-31 said.

"Y'know, we probably all would've been dead if it weren't for you." The man spoke. "Hell, there's no way we could repay you for saving us."

"Don't worry." Liam-31 said. "We are only here to rest, then we'll leave once we are ready. We aren't here to ask for anything."

"Please, at least let us give you two a proper recovery. It is unfortunate, but you most likely won't be seeing any other camps in this area, hell, even in most of Japan. Those damned creatures have been ravaging our people, and it will only keep continuing."

The man put a hand on Liam-31's shoulder. "With you two, we can survive a little longer until this hell goes away."

"We won't let anything happen to you or the people." Liam-31 said. "I promise."

The man gave the two bastions a smile, before the sound of a stomach growling filled their ears.

"Haha... excuse me..." Judas-12 said, embarrassed.

"Nonsense, come with me, we'll get you two filled up with the finest meal you'll find around!" The man said, walking off as Judas-12 and Liam-31 followed behind him.

Walking with the man, they could see what looked like a long wooden table, complete with wooden chairs. People were already sitting down at the table, eating from bowls.

"While we aren't able to make any type of meal, we are able to make stew, and let me tell you, this is some of the best stew you'll ever eat."

Gesturing to them to sit down, the two bastions found two chairs to sit on, while the man walked forward and placed two bowls of hot stew in front of them.

"It's a little hot, so I'd recommend blowing on it before eating."

Without another notice, Judas-12 began chowing down on the stew, eating like there was no tomorrow. Liam-31 took a less destructive approach, calmly taking bites and savoring the taste of the stew.

Judas-12 had already finished his bowl of stew before Liam-31 had finished his, and ended up requesting another bowl almost immediately.

"He wasn't kidding about this stew being good...!" Judas-12 said while shoving the stew in his mouth. "I could eat three more bowls of this stuff if I could!"

"Save some for the people. We can survive without food longer than them." Liam-31 said, before putting another spoonful of stew into his mouth the warm and steamy feeling he felt caused his stomach to ignite, the texture of the meat and vegetables was unlike anything he would eat in the spaceships, just tubes of food with little to no taste.

The sky had already turned dark before they had noticed, with Judas-12 stacking five bowls of stew in a row, while Liam-31 had only eaten two.

"I'm stuffed.." Judas-12 said. The rest of the people who had been sitting with them had already went into their tents to sleep for the night, only Liam-31 and Judas-12 were the ones still sitting at the table.

"It's time we get some rest for tomorrow." Liam-31 told Judas-12, who only groaned and wouldn't budge. "Ah, give me a minute, it's a little difficult to move right now.."

Seeing no reason to bother Judas-12, Liam-31 got up from his seat and began limping back towards the medical tent he first woke up in, before he stopped as a hand touched him in the back.

It was the same man who had treated them to the stew. "Sorry for the trouble Liam, but would you mind having a conversation with me, just for a little bit?"
