The botanical research club was founded a few weeks ago. Emiko, the newest member, blended in. She now proposes that Hideki, a male acquaintance of hers, also joins. Given that Emiko has proven to be reliable, we welcome him in exchange for a secret. Mitsuko and Emiko don't communicate at all.
In her free time, Mitsuko is totally alone.
She has even stopped participating in her abstract art club because she was the only one left in it. The events involving her are no longer discussed. She has recently purchased a new pencil box, and at lunch break she draws landscapes. Since she no longer speaks to Emiko her entire focus is on the lessons.
Hideki-kun is a tall student from the other class with shaggy black hair. He is pretty attractive, with large green eyes and slender lips. He shows us that he is interested in the club, yet he spends most of his time with Emiko-san. How has this happened in the first place?
Moreover, there is nothing noteworthy about the development of my relationship with Fulvius, in case you have been wondering.
Despite his restrained demeanour, he manages to be charming and alluring. Even though I'm still trying to win his admiration, I'm more grateful for the vast amount of information he gives me so I can understand botany at a much deeper level.
"Fulvius-kun, do you think we should start with experiments that allow plants to develop consciousness?" From the first time I read about that topic in the guidebook he brought, I found myself growing increasingly impatient about learning more.
For the time being, this will be a strictly private matter between the two of us.
We won't mention that to Emiko and Hideki. For now, they will suffice with learning about the green and red dust that beans can offer.
"I really believe that we should start the experiments. Listen, I have a lot more books at home, and I don't like the idea of leaving such private information at school." Evidently, they are too heavy for me to carry around each day. "Come to my place," he says.
Is he really inviting me to his house to study this fascinating subject? I believe I will trust him, despite the fact that he has a tendency to be dubious. In addition, if I didn't trust him, how could I possibly be in a relationship with him.
We make the decision to rendezvous behind the school yard after school and declare to everyone that we need to study for the upcoming exams. Then, we make our way to his house. We are walking close to one another when we unintentionally touch hands. It is rainy outside. The actual start of fall is drawing near. I enjoy the rain's fragrance.
"Come Hinata, I'm all by myself at home. We won't be bothered by anyone. You can take off your shoes here." Fulvius remarks as he places the wet umbrella in the holder.
I follow Fulvius-kun upstairs to his room after taking off my shoes. His room is a really lavish and elegant space. In the room, he keeps numerous crystals and plants, as well as a small library. The library is made up of two extraordinarily tall bookcases that hold a variety of books. The majority appears to be connected to magic. He instructs me to sit on the carpet. It is a smooth, dark carpet. I sit with my legs crossed.
Soon after, he joins me and says, "I hope you are comfortable here, this is the book we need."
He lifts the candle and says, "Observe each phrase carefully. Then, we'll try to cast a spell.
"It is called "Herba ad creatura". A method, or spell if you want, that allows you to transform a plant into a creature. Literally, "Plant to creature" in our language.
"My mother has never had the courage to do it. But I'm not like her. Since you are knowledgeable about plants, we will be safe. I swear." He attempts to reassure me.
"All right, where do we start? What kind of plant should we convert first?" I inquire.
"Hinata, don't rush things. You must have a solid foundation.
We have a low grade conversion which I'm not sure if it creates consciousness on its own or just allows the plant to receive it from some other entity.
If it were developed independently, it would function similarly to the artificial intelligence used on robots." he says. "Later on, we have a high grade conversion which is much more risky since it entirely gives the plant the ability to transform at will. It will be converted into a beast.
I believe the plant is possessed by an entity, so its ultimate shape will differ depending on the plant's type, look, and the strength of the entity itself, of course."
Fulvius thoroughly explains everything to me before asking if I am ready. "I won't think twice. Let's begin," I say as courage floods my entire body.
"Pick up this leaf. We will repeat the words and concentrate all of our attention on them. The leaf ought to be able to move independently within a few minutes.
We'll put it beneath a glass to make sure the wind isn't disturbing it.
Also, it won't be able to escape." Fulvius says with gleaming eyes. He is impatient. It is obvious. We follow the manual's instructions.
Following that, we wait patiently while observing the static leaf behind the glass surface. After two minutes, it starts to hop as it tries to break through the glass.
"Fulvius, look, it's moving!" I yell.
While glancing at the leaf and grinning, Fulvius makes no attempt to hide his lack of surprise. Afterwards, he takes the needle from the same tiny box he took the leaf from and pins it down on the surface.
Despite its best efforts, the unfortunate leaf is unable to move. It is captured.
