Chapter 2:

Familiarities and Hints

Cotton Bridge

After school, I immediately went to the library to get things done. I was given extra work, I was even lucky in the first place because the professor gave me a chance to make up for the lost credit.

The vast room contained a ton of bookshelves, four placed around a certain area in front of the door, seven on the right, five on the left. The tables were situated just before the front bookshelves, and I went and sat on the very edge of the table with no one close to me.

I then laid out my usual materials: pen, notebook, another small notebook, and my phone. I took notes with my tiny phone and made sure that I understood what I was writing. Time had passed, until..

The scenery changed before me, I was standing in a familiar place. It was a sunny day. The pavements were light gray, cars beeping at one another, and a crowd of people yet again were scattered on the road. The coffee shop beside me was crowded too, and the bench in front of it was unoccupied. Weirdly enough, my bike was close to me.

The same woman that I encountered earlier came, she appeared to have a bad day. I wanted to repay her gratitude so I approached her.

"Hey, uhm, thanks for earlier."

"It was nothing, just please watch the road again.", she replied, looking as if this conversation was awkward.

"I will, do you wanna come to the coffee shop? My treat."

Her eyes lit up, her face turned brighter, and without an ounce of hesitation, she said yes.

We then entered the coffee shop and made our order on a digital screen. It was convenient, the lines were reduced drastically and all it took was a quick 5 minutes to get the order done plus the line. We then sat on the dining table next to the massive windows.

"Aren't you familiar? Weren't you the person I met somewhere in MyFeed?", she asked, appearing curious. Breaking the awkward tension between us.

"Wait, aren't you—"

"You're Aron! How could we ever not recognize each other? We played so many games on Guns of Valor and we spent a lot of time talking!"

I tried to remember and, bam! A strike of memory hit my head and I didn't even notice it was her I was talking to because I didn't get to see her face that much.

"Arn?! I'm so sorry I didn't recognize y-you, I mean, we haven't really met in person have we?"

"I am literally so surprised right now that we met.", she replied ecstatically. The matcha frappuccino and the iced coffee with vanilla extract + croissant was then handed to us by a waiter.

"So, how have you been after all these months? We haven't been talking a lot lately."

"It has been great actually, I've passed the university I wanted to go to and it appeared that all of my tuition was free. It's not the course I wanted though."

"Really? That's great! What university is it and what course are you taking?"

"Princeton Le'Viarre Massouri University. Mechanical Engineering, apparently is what I passed.", she replied, looking slightly sullen and forced but appearing to have moved on from it.

"Are you going to pursue that?"

"Y-yeah, I mean, it's not like I have a choice." She took a deep breath and smiled at me again.

"I'm sorry to hear that." I replied, I wanted to know more about her situation but I hesitated knowing that we weren't as close anymore.

"You?"

"I'm planning to take my pre-med course at that same university. Actually, I'm going to pursue medical biology, but let me see if I can."

"Best of luck to you then." She sipped her iced coffee looking a little bit lightened up. She looked even more beautiful in person. Well, right, I had a crush on this girl for a long time now, but things have changed. I took a sip of my own drink too then..

"Wake up! Wake up, Aron!", a gentle call emerged, turning louder and louder.

…..I accidentally slept.

Two of my friends who were working in the library came for me. "The school is already closing, go home already man." I was still drowsy as hell but then I saw how dim it was in the library and outside too so I didn't want to get left alone there.
