Chapter 14:

Revelation II

The Botanical Research Club

"Emiko-san did? And we thought we could put our trust in her." Fulvius is becoming agitated.

"That ungrateful little bitch who spreads lies about me to you. How could she?" Although Fulvius is still enraged, he soon realizes that he needs to cool off.

I say, "It's okay Fulvius, I didn't believe her when she said that."

"But the information regarding your parent divorcing is true, right? Additionally, she claimed that your father kicked you and your mother out and you live alone in your aunt's house while your mother lives elsewhere." I intentionally give false information in order to learn the truth. It's because, given how frequently she is absent I assume he cannot be living with his mother.

"That is not exactly how it is. Although she is practically constantly away, my mother and I stay at my aunt's house. My parents have never officially divorced, and my dad didn’t kick us out. I'm sorry I didn't tell you anything about it sooner. If you want, I can tell you the entire story immediately," he offers.

"It is never too late. I'm eager to hear it right now." I say, feeling relieved that he didn't lie to me.

"We used to be a content little family. My parents had a loving relationship up until a particular person entered our life. Then it started to head the wrong way, he was truly only a work colleague, as my mother had always emphasized before the problems started." As he recounts the incident, Fulvius becomes angry.

"What happened then?" I ask, sensing his discomfort.

"She blamed her job as the reason for her increasing frequency of absences from home. My father didn’t believe my mother would cheat on him. He had a clear insight into the whole thing. He began to treat her even more kindly and attempted to talk to her about it, but she refused. She criticized him, saying he is untrustworthy and controlling," he clarifies.

"Is your father a mage as well?" I ask, ignorant that my inquiry may cause harm to Fulvius.
"He was a mage, indeed. However, he is no longer alive," Fulvius says with tears in his eyes.
"There is no need for further explanation. I believe you."

I feel a little guilty for doubting him and bringing this up.

"It's fine. I will tell you right now. That man I have mentioned recognized my parents' power and utilized my mother to get their knowledge. He was really interested in having her as his partner, though. As a result, he desired to get rid of my father. He did something even more terrible than handling it himself."

"What exactly did he do?" I ask.

"He suggested that since he was never particularly skilled at using negative energy, my mother teaches him how to do it. She accepted it without understanding what she would do. He made sure that the primary target of the bad energy transmitted by the spell from the book was my father. They intended to destroy certain commonplace items, but he had already cast a magic that changed the flow of energy from those items to my father. I have no idea how he managed to do it, and I don't even want to think about it too much, but it appears that he is skilled at facilitating the target of spells."

I remain silent because I am at a loss for words.

"I loathe him. I despise him the most. Not only did he cause the death of my father, but he also left my mother with the burden of guilt. I hate him so badly that I want to destroy him. That's why I was so interested in destructive rituals and why I want to bring a monster into life. I want to make a creature that will swallow him and make him suffer all the way to death."

"And it wasn't by her own will that my mother fell for him. To get her to adore him instead of my father, he utilized his energy focus spells. He is responsible for all of it. I hope that after hearing this, you can better grasp what I'm feeling." Fulvius adds, "I feel relieved that I told you about all this ordeal."

"I am very sorry you had to experience this. We will make that evil man pay for what he has done to your family." As I comfort him, I give him an embrace.

"I genuinely believe that every selfish and malicious person like he is ought to be eliminated. If it seems a little extreme, I apologize," he says.

"Stop dwelling on it. If we don't relax before the spell, we'll bring all of this negativity into it." I touch his cheeks and wipe the tears away. I can see now that he has a tendency to suppress his feelings.

"Hinata, you are right. After telling you, I should concentrate on nicer things. I appreciate you consoling me. I have never discussed this with anyone who was not involved." He wraps his hands around my waist as soon as he is finished speaking.

"I love you, Hinata," he exclaims, increasing the strength of his grip. He is tense right now and his heart is thumping really quickly. Despite the terrible reality he previously revealed to me, I can't help but be joyful now that he has confessed his love for me. I believe he shares my feelings.

"I love you too, Fulvius." I utter, and shortly after, our lips come together for our first kiss.
