Chapter 21:

Year 2-10: The hospital

Is it ok?

Riku was walking the hospital hallway up and down. Kiyokos parents wanted to talk to her alone after she had regained consciousness. Nobody really knew what had happened, the story Kiyokos father told was that he and Kiyoko were waiting for her mother to arrive at home, then something happened and she laid on the floor bleeding. Riku felt like something didn´t add up but he also didn´t want to jump to conclusions. Looking at the others he could see a variety of worry, tears and confusion on their faces. He sat down next to Satsuki; she was still staring at her phone. “I should have seen the call sooner.” She mumbled.
“That wouldn´t have changed anything.” Riku tried to reassure her.
A tall woman with the same chocolate colored hair as Kiyoko, her mother, came out of the room. “She wants the club president present.” She said.
Satsuki stood up and turned to Riku. “Come with me?”

Kiyoko laid in a hospital bed, her mother ran back to her seat next to her. She was holding onto Kiyokos hand tight. That´s when Riku caught a glimpse of Kiyokos injury: her wrists were bandaged up. Riku felt like he shouldn´t be here, Satsuki thought otherwise; she held his hand tightly shaking. “Kiyo-chan what happened?” Satsuki managed, her voice cracking under her tears.
Kiyoko looked at her father standing in a corner of the room. He rolled his eyes. “She tried to kill herself.” He said. He sounded bored, Riku really didn´t like this guy. How could he say that his daughter almost died so casually? Kiyokos mother seemed to think the same; she shot her husband a look that would have scared everyone else. He just continued to look bored. “Why are we even making such a fuss over it? She survived, didn´t even manage to cut deep enough anyway. Kotoko she just wanted attention nothing else.”
“Out!” Kotoko yelled pointing at the door.
“What?” Her husband asked.
“If that is how you´re going to speak about my daughter then I don´t want you around!”
Satsuki came closer after Kiyokos father left the room. “Why…?” Was all she managed to say, tears streaming down her face.
Kiyoko stared at her blanket. “I don´t…”
“If you don´t want to say it, it´s fine.” Riku said. Kotoko looked at him confused. “I mean we can´t force her say something that´s apparently so hard to say.”
Kiyokos mother nodded. “I guess you´re right.” She stood up. “I´ll talk to my husband about his behavior. Can I leave you two with her for a second?”
They nodded. Satsuki and Riku decided to just talk with Kiyoko. After a while the others were allowed inside her room too.

A few days had gone by; Riku had asked Shu to come to the hospital. Riku though that it might be easier for Kiyoko to talk with someone who also had those thoughts.
They talked for a while; Riku and Satsuki were in Kiyokos room too, just sitting by her side.
“You must´ve been really sacred.” Shu said. “I mean I always chickened out. But I did have Hayato and Sani by my side.”
Kiyoko still wasn’t talking about that situation. She seemed to feel uncomfortable.
“It´s hard, right? To talk about it. You feel so stupid and useless.” He showed her his scars. “You can tell me anything you want, I swear by my life I won´t think you´re stupid.”
“You cut your arms?” She almost whispered.
Shu nodded. “Hayato found them really fast. Let me tell you, he was not amused. I´ve honestly never seen him so worried in my life.”
“My stomach.” Kiyoko mumbled. “I did it on my stomach. I thought the arms would be too obvious.”
Riku felt like a rock just hit him in the face.
“Oh hello.” Kiyokos mother came through the door. She introduced herself to Shu. “The doctors say you´ll be released tomorrow.”
Kiyoko nodded. “Ok. Will dad pick me up?” She asked in a small voice.
Kotoko shook her head. “No, I´ll stay in Japan for a bit longer. I can´t leave you alone like that and your father still thinks it´s not a big deal. He´s waiting outside.” Kotoko hadn´t let her husband enter Kiyokos room since his horrible remarks about Kiyokos situation. She took her daughters hand. “Won´t you tell me why you did it?” Kotokos eyes filled with tears.
Kiyoko looked around. “You´ll believe me?” She asked, her voice very small.
“What? Of course I´ll believe you!” Her mother said holding Kiyokos face in her hands. “You´re my daughter, there´s no way in hell I´d ever not believe you.”
“He tried to…” Kiyoko seemed to almost choke on the words. “He molested me.” She whispered.
Kotoko stared into her daughters face “Who?”
“Dad.” Kiyoko managed.
Silence filled the room until Kotoko stood up. “I´ll have a word with him.”
“Mom no.” Kiyoko pleaded.
Her mother gave her a kiss on the forehead and threw the door open. After the door closed again a loud. “What did you do to my daughter?” Could be heard.
“She just wants attention! She´s a liar!” A male voice could be heard.
“My daughter doesn’t lie about something like that! Don´t even dare thinking about showing your face in my house ever again!” A short minute of silence then Kotoko yelled. “And don´t show your face to my daughter ever again or it will be the last thing you´ll ever be doing!”
A nervous nurse came into Kiyokos room. “Should I call security? Your mother is yelling at your father like a fury.”
Kiyoko smiled. “No, it´s fine.”
